    It's important to note that "Web3.0" as originally described is not a decentralised internet based on Blockchain, it's the Semantic web(1999), a web where data is machine parsable and interpretable data with intelligent agents interacting with users (2004)
    The definition of "web3" definition used in this video is the decentralized internet where data is democratized using Blockchain technologies didn't appear until 2014 by Gavin
    Many people get it mixed up because media doesn't use the correct and consistent stylisation

    I now have more questions than at the beginning of the video:
    - What's the purpose of making tokens for everything?
    - What if there's a bug in the software? Who will fix it and how can you avoid people refusing to update and exploiting the bug?

    • @Chadmanthebadman
      @Chadmanthebadman 2 года назад +39

      This video is actually very misleading in the sense that it uses a buzz word from the tech industry but doesn't even come close to doing the topic justice.
      1) Tokens are already in use for companies like LVMH who is the parent company of Louis Vuitton, fine wine and many luxury goods. They use it to ensure every item has a unique block(ID) on the blockchain in order to maintain authenticity throughout the supply chai process and prevent counterfeiting.
      Technology currently being developed for web 3 is intended to address issues such as slow transaction speed and electricity usage by tech such as bitcoin and Ethereum.
      As someone who has watched the crypto market since 2017 I can say almost 90% of the tokens available for "investment" is a scam so be careful. However, the technology behind Bitcoin and Ethereum is very solid and can be used for things like smart contracts.
      There are currently pilot projects in some African countries which uses smart contracts for small loans, insurance and even voting.
      2) The way web 3 works is a bit different than say apps you download from the playstore as web 3 apps can be updated and bugs can be fixed without user permission or the user even needing to do anything. These things will be in the "terms of use" for these apps and is the way forward as it makes everyone's lives a lot easier. I get hoe this sounds like users are losing control but its actually quite a tedious and annoying task to have to keep on updating apps and OS given how much we rely on our devices for daily use.
      Hope this helps and thanks for asking these questions.

      First question: it's just like people where collecting stamps or shoes, now they can collect something that anaybody can easily "forge" (I don't get the point apart saying you own an original). The problem with Web3, is that if trully decentralized, then data is stored on chain. For privacy, data is encrypted. But what you encrypted today will almost certainly be decryptable at some point in the future. So, I'm very doubtful of anything big happening. Few use case where it has proven useful: land registry in a corrupt country. The Gov kept record of land ownership on blockchain. People could trust this system to not be corrupt, because it was transparent. So really only useful for public data.

In this case, will Web 3.0 really be able to replace Web 2.0? This is assuming everyone is willing to pay for access to an uncensored Web.
    2) Those with the most tokens are likely to have most influence over Web 3.0. I have the feeling it will not be us (typical citizens and developers), rather it will be the government and venture capitalists.

      No Lee it is not that. These are not my own views nor are they my own desires but just an explanation.
      The idea of the tokens/crypto is to take some of the financial power that corporations currently have and to have it distributed into the market place. The idea is that a user can take those tokens and use them to build on the net without the need for corporations to providing funding.
      So an enterprising user could build an organisation that could purely be constructed from those tokens. Every user will have access to those tokens. The key here is to understand that it does not mean a user will not have access when they have no tokens but if that user wants to trade or build they will require them.
      We also have a plug in our thinking hole in that we cannot imagine such a system with next generation technologies such as vr and ai. What exactly would such a world be?

If cryptocurrencies become a thing in the future, do you think the distribution will be wildly different? From what I understand, a small group of whales own a big chunk of cryptocurrencies now.
      - Regarding users being "able to build on the system", can't any enterprising user/developer work on their own website, app or technology now?

    "very insecure" is an understatement lol VPNs would be rendered useless, pools would eventually create centralization (in other words, not défi), and paying traffic in cryptocoins would make erasing history impossible. With ipv6 that means your specific and device used is directly tied to the transaction, including location and payment receipt. Anyone you pay in that crypto will be able to trace it back to your traffic... Which is public. That's just stupid by any measure.

    It seems interesting to me that the discussion of Web3 or Web 3.0 includes aspects that basically mirror real life. It seems as though we are trying to build a virtual space that is nearly identical to our actual reality that already exists. There are many already-existing real-world parallels to this virtual world that we are trying to create. Is this just an electronic version of what we already have, except that it has the potential for the parallels to be instantly available worldwide? Couldn't we simply create a virtual space that adds the instantaneous functionalities that would enhance our actual reality? Just curious.

    If you want to understand how revolutionary Web 3 is, consider that one of the technologies integral to it is a compact, personal atomic clock. Atomic clock precision is essential because it allows devices to communicate directly with each other, wirelessly, in an ad hoc or MANET network. That means content doesn’t even need to be “published.” All your content can be hosted, “shared,” right from your device, to everyone in the world. Everyone will be able to curate and display web content on your device using free and open social media apps. Not browsers. Browsers will be a thing of the past. And also, ISPs.

    • @generalralph6291
      @generalralph6291 2 года назад

      @@britannio Not at all. That is the major breakthrough we need to make MANET internet a reality, and it’s not here yet. Furthermore, even once we have compact, affordable atomic clocks, we will also need a revolution of silicon to take full advantage of it. We are talking about power efficient chips about 1000 times faster than today’s microprocessors or GPUs. This is attainable, but as I understand it will require more research into quantum physics, and Angstrom-sized process manufacturing.
      All of this is achievable, but it is not here yet.

      Having content on any device is already hosting it. So if you want to use your device as host for big files you would need higher storage. Much expensive than buying a cloud server. For browser, they're another apps to ease your experience on internet because all of it can be done by your own created app or even open source linux web interface

    • @generalralph6291
      @generalralph6291 2 года назад

      @@user-it5po2dq9w But you don’t understand how revolutionary Web 3 is. The server or the cloud service is a middle-man. You have to publish content right now. When your content is on the server, it is under control of the owner of the server. With Web 3, you don’t publish content, you share it, and it goes directly from your device to the consumer through curation software on their device. Additionally, with Web 3, you don’t even need an internet service provider. Your device is will be connected directly to nearby devices, eliminating the need to pay a monthly fee. You say storage is expensive, but the big companies are buying all the storage right now. In the Web 3 future, consumers will buy and own the storage, not the megacorporations. Even if your device runs out of storage, it is trivial in the Web 3 future to fuse external storage to your device. You could even be paid to buy and maintain cloud storage in Web 3, as users use your drives to swap their files and pay a tiny fee for the service.
