Nice video! The hottest I have seen on a rock was 1.7M CPM on a 489-110D pancake (Equiv to 44-9) this was on some killer autunite, big massive cabinet specimen. The Victoreen 190 I was using has dead time compensation, so I suspect you would be looking at around 700k CPM on a meter without.
This disc is see through and you can see the actual "source" in it. It is very very small, any large sized sample would probably be pretty dangerous! I was able to hit 7 mr/hr on both 2403's with 44-38. Just by finding the sweet spot and giving it more time to stabilize. 80,000 cpm window open. Today I wanted to see, since there is a big difference in outputs between label side and source side, whether all betas are blocked on the label side by the plastic. I used the 9-3 ion chamber since it has a wide response to different energies including beta. So I put the disc label side up and sat the 9-3 on top of it. I got .8 mr/hr on the meter, then opened the window and it increased to 1.6. not much difference, but the other side shoots to 50. So It blocks most all betas from the disc. Source side is 1 and 50, showing the beta gamma difference at the same exact distance.
