While I was trying to catch Raikou and Entei in SoulSilver I randomly found a Shiny Ledyba. I managed to catch it, Thank Arceus.

I remember EV training against Wurmples in OG Sapphire and it was taking forever, so I started doing other things as well. Glanced at my screen just in time for me to knock out a shiny Wurmple. Still doesn't hurt as much as running into a shiny Sandshrew outside Cerulean without any poke balls in LeafGreen.

Yeah everytime i get a shiny or i get more progress towards my dex i save about 4 times and then when im about to close the app i save 1 extra time just to be safe
My first Shiny fail was Heracross in Emerald and I wasn't even hunting for it .... Safari Zone .... It fled immediately ....
The only other fails were a bunch of Geodude in XY horde battles when they all start using Magnitude.
Wow, that Geodude one is the worst way to fail... my only fail is shiny Hippowdon USUM. I false swiped it down to 1 HP then it used Double Edge

I caught a 10 encounter shiny Palkia from wormhole hunting in ultra moon. I went on with it in the front of my team to get some levels when I encounter another legend. I save and check it once for the laughs. Shiny Lugia. It proceeded to use its moves until I realised oh... My palkia has pressure... The Lugia then struggled to death.
Chaining Alolan Grimer in US, one finally appeared. Went to get my phone to take a photo of it. Dropped my phone out of excitement. Somehow managed to run from the fight.
Using the SOS Harvest method on a Pikipek, finally get one. Kill the wrong Pikipek.
I've also lost a Shiny Wingull, Doduo, Talonflame and Camerupt because Pokemon Bank decided I wasn't the owner of my own Bank and kept asking for me to put in a game with a certain Trainer ID, but I had wiped my saves so... Yeah. not really a fail.

Pokemon Soul Silver, Route 34, right before Ecruteak City. Shiny vulpix, my first ever shiny, freaked out. It uses roar, runs away, first ever shiny and first ever shiny fail. Vulpix is my least favorite mon now.
When I was 10 or 11, I Just got Pokémon X for my birthday and and encountered a horde of Durant and one was shiny. I didn’t know what it was I thought it was holding leftovers(cause the animation looked similar to me). I caught it but forgot to save and was super disappointed I lost a special Pokémon

The other day I forgot to save after a shiny grookey and lost around an hour of hunting. When I loaded the game back up however, I got another one first egg hatched.
Bruh the first hour? Lucky. I hunted for a full day and no shiny. :(

I was recently hunting rolycoly and I was watching home alone. I was half watching the movie so my volume on the switch was off. I had got the muscle memory of running away so I just kept doing it. Then, when I glanced from the movie back to my switch, I saw the shiny rolycoly and got really excited, but then I realized that I had just pressed the run button.
well maybe you shouldn't have been watching a fucking movie while doing that
Ran into a shiny Gollet, lowering its health down with my Golisopod and after a few failed pokeballs I was taken down to half health and emergency exited from the battle.
This is why Golisopod is the antithesis of shiny hunting.
I've only ever had 1 shiny fail, it was like 1 am at a buddy's place and I'm like "hey let's see if I can find a shiny minior before I pass out"
I found one in 4 encounters; not minior encounters, total encounters. I was sooo hyped and then I realized I forgot to bring the quagsire I specifically caught with damp. Threw one quick ball and it didnt work...there was an explosive ending...

I personally have never failed a shiny and I have a couple. Fun Fact: the fist shiny I hunted was a Shiny Electabuzz in Sun because I wanted to see if the SOS method actually worked.
I get my shinys from @Poke Flexii I recommend his channel if you want free shinies
I remember one time while playing Pokémon Y, while using Rock Smash on a bunch of rocks in the cave where you find Zygarde, I ran into a shiny Graveler. I freaked out so bad at the idea of running into a shiny Graveler that I didn't think straight and accidentally ran away from it. It still hurts my soul to this day

The two fails that come to mind for me are both let's go shinies
1. Zubat, threw a pokeball, it broke out, then ran
2. Cubone, one spawned up towards the top of the screen, and I was watching RUclips, by time I saw it, it was despawning(luckily got that one back in just a few hours though)

My Shiny Fails *that I can remember* are:
X/Y - Shiny Delibird in a Friend Safari, ran out PokéBalls then ran away from it ... should've fainted that smug bluebird!
(I redeemed myself here by catching a Shiny Zigzagoon in ORAS!)
Sun/Moon - was soft-resetting at a fishing spot then soft-reset over a Shiny Wailmer 😓😓😓
(My redemption here came late in USUM when I caught a Shiny Pikipek just after getting my Starter!)
I'm sure there are others I forgot in my infinite shame but these are the ones that irk me to this day!
And most recently I succeeded in catching my first Shiny in SwSh: a Shiny Rookidee!

I remember getting a shiny cresselia in ultra moon at like 45 resets and i can’t remember how i failed it, but I think either I ran out of pokeballs to catch it with bc I forgot to stock up, I accidentally killed it or i reset over it. I only really remember my reaction to failing it, not how I failed it. Reclaimed it at 68 encounters which is pretty good though. Then a shiny altaria was failed bc of perish song I think.
Not sure if this can count as a failure too, but I had a shiny deerling (which i only noticed until I actually caught the thing lmao, i noticed the sparkles but got confused and caught it anyway). Flash forward to maybe a few months later, I wanted to replay white 2 so I reset the game. I wasn’t really bothered that I lost the shiny.

I was shiny hunting Minior in Ultra Moon. Found one within a few encounters and I threw a quick ball at it.
Little did I know that it had a low catch rate while still in it's shell. Then it gave me the middle finger as it self-destructed.
Being honest I’ve never failed a shiny cause I fear it the most and refuse to let it happen

I failed a shiny solrock I hunted for, it didn’t explode (I had damp) but I accidentally killed it. It was in SwSh so wild area weather changes daily, I tested a water move and didn’t kill but when the shiny came and quick ball didn’t work I tried that move but it killed....turns out I tested it out in harsh sun
I was on autopilot while shinyhunting rookidee. Was not expect it to appear within 10 encounters. Nuff said
You should bring those intros back they seem pretty dope.. and I've yet to fail a shiny "knocks on wood", but I actually found a full odds shiny sinistea while trying to complete my pokedex yesterday 😁

In Let’s Go Pikachu I was playing through it a second time, and got to viridian forest. I wanted a bulbasaur on my team, so I upped my catch combo so I could catch one. To my surprise, as soon as I got my catch combo to the point a bulbasaur would appear, a shiny bulbasaur appeared! I only had pokeballs since I was only to viridian forest. I tried catching it three times, but it broke out. I fed it berries, but forgot that berries had the same effect as throwing a ball, and upping its chance of running away. I gave it like 15 berries before...”The wild Bulbasaur ran away!” I cried on the floor for ten minutes, and the worst part, I watched a video about shiny fails earlier and said, out loud, “I never failed a shiny in my life” to my friend. This was my first shiny fail.
In Sword and Shield, I just got the Crown tundra, beat it and was doing dynamax adventures (which if you didn’t know, have boosted shiny odds.) I finished my third one, catching Groudon, Cofagrigus, and two others. When I got to the choosing screen, I looked through my Pokémon. To my delight, Cofagrigus was shiny! And I love it’s shiny too! I picked it, named it “Deathwish,” and as soon as I said put it in the box, the screen goes black and text appears. “An error has occurred. Your game has been shut down, and turn off your console.” I did, went back, and Deathwish was gone. Looks like he got his wish. I sat outside for ten minutes just staring at nothing.
In conclusion, the Bulbasaur hurt more at the time because it was my first, but I’m currently more upset about the Cofagrigus, because Bulbasaur was my fault, and I know that it was me who did it. Cofagrigus just disappeared. No reason, no warning, just gone. So yeah. Bye.

I've had three shiny fails so far. First was a shiny Sentret in gold that appeared before I had pokeballs. Then a shiny Dratini in Fire Red in the Safari zone ran from me. Then in Alpha Sapphire I RAN OUT of pokeballs trying to catch a shiny Skarmory.. Out of spite I have since gotten a shiny of each of these from breeding.
I remember two shinies that I failed, one was a shiny Absol in ORAS, and because I wanted it in a Premier Ball, I didn't attack it since it could have life orb when chaining, and it went for Perish Song, when it got to one, I threw and Ultra Ball but didnt catch and failed it. Good news is I reclaimed it 30 encounters after. I also failed three shiny Ponytas in Platinum when I was radar hunting, I was so used to soft resetting when I broke a chain to when I was done hunting and I broke the chain, i accidently soft resetted over the three shiny Ponyta I caught. Was still able to reclaim it though luckily.
As a kid I found 3 shinies. One save file. Didn’t know what it was then reset the file.
About a year later, knew what shinies were, and found a Pidgey before getting Pokeballs in Soul Silver. Thanks game.

This was from a Pokémon fan game: Pokemon Uranium. I was grinding on one of the Power Plants when I ran into a shiny Nuclear Eshouten. I tried to weaken with my Alpico’s Double Kick, but I forgot that every type is super effective against Nuclear, and Eshouten died. I’d be pretty sad, but actually, a few minutes earlier, I actually caught a Shiny Xenomite in the same location. Because of that, I wasn’t that bummed, but still pretty disappointed in myself.

I remember finding my shiny eevee on black 2 and I wasnt paying attention due to playing my playstation.
I placed my finger on the run button but then I noticed, so I slowly dragged my finger over to my bag and I was so relieved that I didnt push hard enough to run...
I've never failed a shinny. Even before I knew shiny mons existed I still caught em all, which I discovered in my first play through of Pkm Gold where I encountered a Shiny marril in the wild. And I've learned so much from videos like this I build good habits when shiny hunting.
I was doing Max Raid Battles and I ran into a shiny Pangoro. We battled it and won, but when I was about to catch it I accidentally used a regular Poké Ball. It was my first shiny encounter in that game.
First ever shiny fail happened on Halloween. Accidentally soft reset over a shiny Giratina in platinum after two months of hunting. It really hurt but I got super lucky and found another one the next day and luckily I caught that one.
One time I failed a shiny Alolan Sandshrew, it hurt. But I was given a second chance by lord Arceus and managed to get another one really quickly.
I still haven’t gotten the shiny Treecko back yet.
When I soft reset over a Shiny Rayquaza in Ultra Sun. Took me another 1000 encounters to get another one.
My first shiny encounter was a Lv. 6 Hoppip when I was 7 years old back when HGSS first came out, I wasn't even hunting, I accidentally crit'd when I would definitely get within 20% health left, I yelled super loud when it fainted. PS, I went and hunted it in the post game and have had it in my play through teams since then :)
I have 2 fails:
1. Smeargle in X struggled (first ever shiny)
2. Mimikyu SoS in Moon. My dumb self decided to take my closed 3DS to school to show my friends the capture. I put my 3DS in my bag, and when I took it back out: the cartridge had popped out.
I gotta confess about the time I accidentally killed a shiny jiggly puff...I just died inside
First time playing through platinum was on the bus during my senior year, 2018. It was my first Sinnoh game. The very first encounter after I get my pokeballs is a shiny Abra. I had one shot to catch it before it used teleport.
It broke out.
I once found a full odds shiny andino with no pokeballs oras after catching ninely-five or something normal ones to train a Pokemon.

I remember the first time I failed a shiny was in X and I was horde hunting and got a shiny Gulpin and was going through and killing them so I could catch it. Only problem was I was watching Pokemon on TV as well and got distracted, forgot there was a shiny, and ran. My latest fail was actually Pokemon GO. I was in Hollywood Studios in Disney World and found a shiny Alolan Ratatta which I ran from so I could catch the sparkles on my recording which I had done many times before. But when I did my GPS drifted and I had to watch as it despawned in my face. I walked closer to where it was to get my GPS signal back but it was gone.
My first fail happened 3 days ago. I was doing run away encounters on the eon ticket Latios in AS. I had encountered the shiny, I paralyzed it, used false swipe, threw a few balls at it. But I got distracted and my mind went automatic mode and ran away. Then I sighed profusely. I decided I’ll come back to it later, so I’m doing some Dexnav encounters 😁.
My first and only fail so far: didnt have sound on while horde hunting in XY. Found a horde of Nosepass and one of them was shiny and I wasn't looking. Since the angles switched, I didnt see the shiny directly until I ran :( but I did get another one same day so thats good
The Zekrom one just shows how bad Zekrom’s shiny is. It’s one of those ‘shiny’ Pokémon that are legit just the same thing just *slightly* different that makes it look almost normal. I mean the shiny animation was a dead giveaway but if you’re not,paying enough attention it’s just gonna look like a regular Pokémon.
I once found a shiny riolu while trying to SOS a lucario to finish my dex, because I didn’t want to raise friendship to evolve a riolu, but it used FINAL GAMBIT. One of my favorite shinies :(
I have a pearl save file with the cute charm glitch, so I run away from hundreds of shinys all the time, technically failing them.

Tried looking at the sos odds while hunting a pikipek didnt realized that i had a shiny on my screen. Killed it and cried
I encountered a shiny smeargle in the grass whilst trying for a shiny ponyta using the egg method.
Basically, I only had a flamebody pokemon in my party, everything else was eggs, I accidentally went into the grass, and encountered a SHINY SMEARGLE. The flamebody on my pokemon burned it and the burn ended up killing it.
Both the luckiest and unluckiest shiny I've ever encountered.

I had just gotten Pokemon Ruby and was playing through it. I first read on Serebii the bulletin or article about Different Colour Pokemon (which if you remember had a picture of a shiny spheal), I went looking in the Shoal Cave for it and found 1. I don't remember seeing the sparkles but I did notice the colour... I deliberately killed it thinking it would give me extra exp (yeah I am that big an idiot) and was upset when it didn't
I also defeated a shiny electrike only noticing the colour as the attack that KOed it was used...
And I bred a shiny castform (completely unMasudaed and didn't notice until I compared it to others I bred, which I only did so I could raise a fire/water/ice castform)
the most stereotypical shiny fail is when some one sees a purple mudkip and thinks their game is bugged so they reset their game
I remember when I was shiny chaining a shiny aipom in oras and it was really late at night and I was tired and I got it 2nd or 3rd encounter and instantly killed it not thinking what the shiny looked like again and I just cried as it’s hp fell down
In Ultra Moon I got a first encounter shiny Cresselia, I freaked out with my friends when I found it, but it ended up struggling itself to death. I found another one like a week later and was better prepared for it.
The only shinies I’ve failed were a Caterpie, a Metapod, and a Weedle in let’s go while hunting for a Bulbasaur. I didn’t fail them intentionally, what happened is that I had closed the game when I went to bed, not realizing I hadn’t saved the game

I personally only failed 2 shinies in my life, neither of which were on video. My first ever shiny, a random Voltorb in Ruby, which exploded in my face, and a random Caterpie who I ran from in Y on accident.
I've had 2 shiny fails. The first was a snorunt I accidentally killed a didn't see while training in Sun, and while sos hunting for tentacool in Ultra Sun, I didn't see it it and accidentally killed it. Reclaimed both eventually though.
Worst shinies to hunt outside of masuda method are hands down self sacrificing ones with moves like Final Gambit, Double Edge, Curse if ghost, Explosion if you don't have a damp ability mon, Momento etc... I've lost a couple shinies to those and hate it every single time
My first and only Shiny fail was my FIRST Shiny itself, I was a child playing pokémon X and searching for an Eevee when a little white fox/dog thing happeared. I remember saying "Aww, so cute! I have to catch it!" then I killed it by accident. After that all I said was "Oh, doesn't matter". I didn't know what shinys were back then.
I was playing heartgold one time, I was grinding at mt.Silver to fight red and out of nowhere was a shiny quagsire, I got a crit.
I feel you fam. Playing Leafgreen, I ran into a shiny Caterpie. It was way early in the game and I only had 1 pokeball left. Decide to hit it once, which would do about half of its health, and I critically hit it. Like, if I had more pokeballs, I wouldn’t have risked it, but I thought ‘1 in 16 is a pretty low chance. I’ll be fine’. Well, one crit later and fine, I was not. That Caterpie fainted, and as did I.
Just last week, had my second ever shiny fail. Hatched maybe 300+ Eiscue, found a shiny, immediately released it. Last save had been an hour before it happened. Rip.
I randomly encountered a shiny swadloon. Instead of clicking the bag after lowering it's health, I clicked run. It was the first random encounter shiny I had in a while. XD
There was one time I accidentally resetted over a shiny Giratina, I felt like a doofus afterwards, but I reclaimed it. A shiny geodude spawned while I was in a battle in SV and by the the time I got away it despawned, then I’ve had a shiny Graveler use explosion
Ive only failed twice. My first fail was shiny Cubchu in a horde and my second was running away from a shiny Alolan Sandshrew. The worst part of the Sandshrew fail is I didn't even realize it until TWO DAYS LATER when I watching Rozoken shiny hunt for his Alolan Sandshrew.. When he got it, I was like OH shiiiiit!
I was grinding in Pokémon Sun on Poni island while I stumbled upon a shiny Pelipper , I got so far excited that I accidentally clicked " Run away " ;-;
Found a shiny zapdos. Lowered it to 2-struggle range. Threw a mad amount pokeballs. It was so many that I just stopped paying attention and next thing you know it was doing its second struggle and rip. I wasn't paying attention and missed the first struggle :[ I had a masterball too
