40 lb bag of salt for water softener. Comes in pellets. I drilled holes into a stump like this and stuffed each hole with pellets. Used brown sugar on the top. They dug the stump out of the ground, now it’s an old stuff in a salt water hole.
@@southernpartisan1772 I use Sodium chloride which is similar to regular table salt. The only difference between the two is that sodium chloride water softener salt is processed to remove impurities like dirt and clay, so it’s a purer form of salt
You can get a 40lb bag of Morton's pool salt for $8 or $9 and a 25lb bag of sugar at walmart for $20. Throw a few packs of kool-aid in that and you've got 65lbs of deer attractant for about $30.
After watching your video I made some, but I used table salt and cherry kool-aid and I didn't have a stump in the area so I poured it on the ground. In less than a week something is tearing the ground up so I put a camera out today. Thanks for sharing and I'll let you know when I get some pics!
Our big Walmart did not have any grape Koolaid this evening so I bought cherry instead. I used a different recipe I found in a video that included salt, sugar, Koolaid, jello, vanilla pudding and raisins. I put some out a month ago and the stump is now a big hole in the ground. I’ll try your cheaper version. My son found that they will attack peanut butter flavored rice brand.
I have used all that at one time or another. Had good luck an out of all of it except raisins. Never tried it. Sounds like it work. To be honest it’s all about the same. I tried pancake syrup and salt once they ate it to. Koolaid on corn works pretty well also. Good luck this year
Had mineral salt block, drilled holes, pour molasses in holes and on block salt. Other area was 40 lbs of fine salt mixed with 1 family size vanilla pudding and 3 cups cherry Kool aid. Deer loved it.
I know it was just a base hit. At the time I did this video I had just bought a new cell camera and it wouldn’t work and I was dealing with an awful customer service. I ended up buying a different camera
Im trying this but with real vanilla instead of kool-aid. Also a video tip for you. When you record, look into the lense, WE are in there, NOT in the view finder. I used to do that and most people do it, just a hot tip to help your videos. Cheers
A few years ago, I got started late on the plot and feeder. So I bought dollar store versions of Fritos and Cap'n Crunch. They loved it, but cost more than your blend. I'll try it.
I'm going to try this. We bought a house on 11 acres last year and have been seeing deer often sometimes within 100 feet of the house. I just bought some deer corn. I'll put some of this out too and see what happens.
Both works well. Another thing that works is taking the premixed koolaid in the plastic can and mix it with the corn and stir it up dry getting the powder all over the corn
Nice and simple I like that. I have one that is made up of salt, powder sugar and kool-aid it's between cherry and grape. I add this mixture to whole corn. But nice video and another option for me to try also here in Alabama
To get it started without other criters eating it, maybe give it a first rain with a sprayer? And if you think acorn flavoring is better substitute that for the koolaid? Smash ripe acorns, soak in water a rew days, drain and use water. Lots of cheap alternatives maybe to try. Could even soak cracked corn.
I've been putting mineral blocks in a small hole in the ground, clay dirt. Anyhow I wonder if I can mix this and just pour into the hole? Forgot to mention, I started out with a hole big enough for a small block. The hole is now a foot deep and a foot across. Thanks for the heads up buddy.
It’s illegal to shoot bears here because we don’t have many. You’re right that sounds like a bears would come to it. Also I have made those blocks before. The blocks are a lot more work. So give it to a lazy man to figure out the easiest way
@@survivinginalabama5584 yea my set up is once a year so 20 bucks is doable for me😁. Not disputing your method at all. I tried it but not as effective here. I’m a to each their own. I even attract bear so double fun!!🤩

Some states are illegal bait, but set it up before deer hunting season opening. After hunting closed, set up for deer to have salt during the winter season.
Bait isn't a guarantee, deer quickly adapt to hunting and become nocturnal. Also some areas it is good to keep the herd size down, I've seen places where they overpopulate and everything edible in reach is gone and the deer are undersize and skinny.
Even "on the cheap" you are around $1.50/lb. I just use this - "American Stockman Champion's Choice Selenium 90 Trace Mineral Salt 50 lb. $12.99" from Tractor Supply for around $.26/lb. The deer love it. I have too many bears to use the Kool Aid.
Thanks I’ll try it

Read the ingredients on your brown sugar. It is regular white sugar with a little bit of molasses. Dark brown sugar has more molasses.
Yes you are correct. Straight molasses works ok too. The real trick is mix a sweet a salty and a flavor
Perfect for bears. We are over run by bears here. In your mixture you might boil kari syrup for a while and add it to help hold blocks together.
