The "Scourging of Lordaeron" had such a nice ending: Arthas comes home hailed as a hero. But, unknown to everyone, he's not there for the celebration...
Between this and the visual bits (you can see the rotting rose petals still covering the street, and the blood smear in the throne room where Terenas's crown fell), and the ghosts of Lordaeron citizens in the courtyard (if you use a spell or item that lets you see invisible creatures), the Ruins of Lordaeron have always been among my favorite areas just for the haunting echoes of the past.
You just don’t get horror like this in the game nowadays… I miss the times where everything usually has a dark and creepy backstory to it, or some uncomfortable ost that would have you walk around the zone feeling your hairs rise…
