    Hey Johannes, welcome to AJP world.
    Few things. My recommendations are-
    Change the wheel spacers to the steel ones ASAP. There is an option from Poland.
    The stock tablet is a real pain in the A... (simply worthless) I hope you still have yours left from the previous bike.
    The side stand is very weak unless this is a 2024 model, or maybe they started upgrading at the end of 2023, cause they had the stronger ones in September.
    I wanna see what you gonna say about the stock suspension, cause I think it's too soft, and mine Ohlins is too hard, so I wonder where are you gonna go with the choices.
    BTW with Doma it pushes 64Hp not 60, just for the record ;)
    Have fun!

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  5 месяцев назад

      Hello there and thanks for the heads up!
      I intend to ride it in stock trim before I do any upgrades, and report back with what needs changing.
      Regarding suspension - are you unable to get proper sag with your Ohlins? ie too stiff springs, or is the damping too aggressive?

    • @Chris_Z.
      @Chris_Z. 5 месяцев назад

      Have the 2022 model. Have to agree with the side stand. Mine keeps bending. Trying to get an updated stronger one.

    • @nemoltu
      @nemoltu 5 месяцев назад

      @@JohannesDalen The damping is way too aggressive for the ADV riding. I assume it would be good for the rally or quite hard enduro riding, I spoke with some suspension specialists down in the Netherlands when I was crossing there and they said that they did one Special edition bike exactly for the same reason- the bike being too hard. The solution was revalving the front. Not done mine yet, cause I am considering selling it.
      If you don't have the steel wheel spacers I will strongly advise you to do so. Or at least check it after a thousand kilometers or so and you will know why am i writing about it.

      @eigenaar0191 5 месяцев назад

      Nemo, I followed you on your Europe trip. Currently in contact with AJP about the sidestand. Already had an email from them telling me that the late 2023 models (somewhere from October on) already have the stronger sidestand. Mine I bought in September, so I am now trying to find out if they make it an aftermarket option to buy from them. Also looking for a good led headlight option that is relatively simple to install.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  5 месяцев назад

      Clicked on your profile - says you're from Norway? If so, hilarious coincidence!
      Bummer if you end up selling the Ohlins.. if so, are you looking to buy the Sachs stuff? If I find it too soft we could swap, but I imagine the Ohlins stuff being pricier..

    Brave choice Johannes, I hope it works out for you. The PR7 on paper does not seem to stack up to the 690/701 but actually it has subtle advantages most of which you have covered. It is a great deal more comfortable, everything is easily accessible for inspection/maintenance. The air filter is right up on the tank and easy to access. The tank filler cap is not behind your arse like the 690/701 where it gets in the way of luggage, but right where it should be in front of you. As you say, no unnecessary electronics and bloody quick shifter/blipper or ABS. Yes the valves clearance sounds bad but I think going from original Husky experience of that motor, they won't actually need adjusting very often once bedded in. I do wonder whether you still have to remove the right hand engine case to get to the inner oil screen, a problem on the first PR7's but maybe rectified now. Only downside I can see based on owning a PR5 for a year, is the terrible (non existent) after-sales and could-not-care-less parts supply from the AJP factory. Best of luck with that aspect.

    Hello Johannes,
    yesterday I bought my PR7 in Stockholm’s motorcycle fair! I was undecided between T7, PR7, and just keeping my road bike. Your video nudged the scale a tiny bit.
    I have never ridden TET, nor traveled off road. Some part of my journey this season, will also cover the balkans. If you could share details of your planning, it would help me a lot to plan mine.
    Looking forward to seeing how you enjoy your bike!

      You probably know I love the T7, but if you want to start your offroad journey the PR7 is miles better - you made the right choice.
      We don't have any plans about our trip just yet, just that we are meeting up in souther Sweden and put our bikes on trailers from there. We start the riding in norther Croatia I think. If you send me an e-mail I'll make sure to update you further with out route.

      Jokes apart, from the little off road experience that I have, I reached the same conclusion. I will follow closely your journey with the PR7 to take notes for mine.
      I did see the twin pegs stand! I also noticed that at least one of the show bikes had Norwegian license plates. I am guessing it’s not a coincidence:) I will pay them a visit on Sunday.
      Also many thanks for sharing any plans. On my road bike, I have used the night train from Hamburg to Innsbruck when I wanted to reach south fast, without using up my tires. I think this time I would like to start from Poland as I have never ridden in Northern East Europe.

    This AJP is well thought out, I believe it has something not seen to often on off road bikes. That small hole below the spark plug is there as a drain of the spark plug well. Also pressurized air should be blow into it to dislodge any dirt & debris in the well before removing the spark plug.

      It's an interesting bike, but I'm not sure it is a replacement for a T7 actually (or any middleweight ADV bike). Take our trip to the Balkans this summer as an example, the other guys are riding from Norway and Sweden down on their T7s and 890s. I will suffer on the highway down there, but once we're there, I'll be having the best time for sure. However, if you have a trailer or a van, it's a no-brainer.
      I love how exotic it is, as you may know I'm 50% Portuguese now, and the fact that it's assembled by hand by my fellow countrymen in a small warehouse in Portugal puts a huge smile on my face while I sip some fine port. The fact that it is highly capable as well is a big bonus! 😉

    I just checked the manual I downloaded 2 days ago. It says oil change every 5000Km and oil filter change every 10.000Km. Does the manual that came with your bike give different numbers? Maybe they haven’t updated the online version!?
    Anyway, I’m looking into buying a PR7 as well, but haven’t decided yet. So, I’m looking forward to your reviews!
    A comparison between the 701 und the PR7 would be quite very interesting.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! It didn't come with a service manual, and the one I have is downloaded from Manualslib. Can't find the maintenance chart on that one, I went with what I could remember, so your info is probably correct. Personally I'd change the filter when I change the oil as well, running new oil through a dirty filter sounds a bit strange in my opinion, and oil isn't that expensive.
      I will do my best to highlight all the positives and negatives about this bike, if you have any questions in particular feel free to shoot me an e-mail or comment on any video. Thanks for following along my friend!

      @@JohannesDalenI downloaded the manual from the AJP website onto the the Samsung tablet that was included with the motorcycle. The manual should have been pre-installed along with the included DMD2 app, but it wasn't. I now have the manual everywhere the bike goes. I own the 2023 USA version. It is officially "off-road competition only" but most US states will allow it to be registered as road legal. The USA version has the Doma unrestricted exhaust and a race tuned ECU. It has plenty of power. My only complaint about the engine so far is that the difference between 5th and 6th gear is miniscule. 6th gear should be a very tall overdrive for cruising on highways, but on this bike it is only a 200-300 rpm difference between 5th and 6th gear. This limits the maximum cruising speed to 75-80 mph to avoid excessive fuel consumption and engine stress.
      But when I take the bike off the highway and onto mountain two tracks, all of my compliants disappear. This motorcycle handles dirt tracks very well. The suspension and handling are amazing. The only modifications I have done so far is adding a 200mm bar riser and adjusting the rear brake so that it wasn't so aggressive.

    • @nathanbanks7091
      @nathanbanks7091 5 месяцев назад +1

      The manual does state a valve check every 5000 km or 3000 miles, but most owners have slacked off on that after the first couple of valve clearance checks. If you aren't racing the bike, the valves will need to be adjusted on the first service, and not very often after. Also, with this engine, it is not necessary to remove the cam shafts to adjust the valve clearance. The average skills do it yourself mechanic is capable of doing a valve adjustment on this engine without any specialised tools other than a feeler gauge and a magnet.

    The PR7 has some good bolt on parts and looks good on paper, but, I can't get past the motor that is now made in China and how reliable it is. Plus 45HP is probably not going to satisfy you on the road. Time will tell. Would you have kept the Hasqvarna 701 if you could have sorted out the twitchy throttle?

      I get your point regarding the engine - however, through my research it seems to be a solid engine that's been around for quite some time. For dirt the power is sufficient. I will report back with what I find once I get some miles with it.

      The engine with the European optional Doma exhaust and tune is very strong. I have the US version. The engine is unrestricted and it is very strong.
      I don't know if the engine is manufactured in Italy or China, but the chassis is manufactured in Portugal. This bike has the best build quality of any motorcycle I have ever owned.

    In my experience, Mitas are actually worse than TKC80. Same longevity, worse on wet road, worse lateral stability. Go for MT21 front, Dunlop 606 rear combo - much better than Mitas. Very popular combo amongst 701 owners.

    2 issues I see with this bike: exposed exhaust, like the T7, that gets damaged or can be displaced in a fall; that little tank neck that's sticking out on the bottom front left side, breaking that in a fall could have nasty results. As usual, best not to fall, yes, but it happens when exploring the boundaries of your trail riding.

      My 2019 ktm 690 enduro had a very well protected exhaust but on the first drop the flange in the exhaust moved a few millimeters inward and eventually melted part of the gas tank, it was almost $2000 usd just for the tank alone, more expensive than most aftermarket exhaust. Ktm calls it a floating exhaust because it hardly has any support.

    For the price and the Unicorn status it is pretty disappointing that it comes with a Sachs suspension, lame tablet (As stated by another owner below) avg engine as you state etc. Seems like they could have stepped up to a KYB suspension, DMD or Carpe tablet. I owned a 701 and it was great until it was not, meaning, it just does not do any one thing well, it just gets by on a bunch of things. Hopefully this AJP is better but I can't see how. I ended up with a Desert X and a Beta 390 and so far it is exactly what I needed. I did put a Tractive suspension on the DX so I am confident it will go anywhere but the Beta is my choice on tough single track....there just is no do it all bike....I think I have tried them all. I do now have an 890 Rally (2024) as well but I have yet to ride it. I hope the AJP works out for you but I fear you will have similar opinions about the AJP as you did on the 701 over time.

      @JohannesDalen  5 месяцев назад

      Now that's an impressive stable you have sir!
      I totally get what you are saying, especially the PR7 ending up as my 701 - a bike that doesn't really do anything well. However, with my 701 I hoped for it to be a do-it-all bike, whereas this PR7 is going to be trailered to different TETs in Europe, and ridden from there. Ultimately, there's only one way to figure that out and I will give the PR7 a fair shot at it. Could have gone with a lighter bike like your Beta, but so far the TETs I've ridden there's simply too much tarmac and easy gravel roads to cover over the course of the weeks we ride.

      @@JohannesDalen I am curious to hear your thoughts after some time. As you know, there is no one machine to do it all. I just had to determine where the majority of my riding would be and it is certainly on the street. The one caveat for me is that I also ride my DX in the same places as my Beta and sometimes feel like the DX is easier to ride. The only rub is weight if you have to pick it up but it is SO stable off road it is always surprising. I would do black bear pass on the DX without hesitation and that is as gnarly as I would want to go even on my Beta. The AJP is a very cool machine so I am looking forward to more vids...cheers!

    • @nathanbanks7091

      My PR7 is a US spec 2023 model. The US version has Doma exhaust and race tuned ECU, but requires some extra paperwork to be road legal. Not an issue in my state. I would like the bike just as much without the tablet. I love the bike because of the overall combination of suspension and off-road handling, weight, engine characteristics, comfort, on-road capability, and fuel range.
      After playing with the tablet a bit I can see that the DMD2 app can be useful, but the bike is almost perfect (for my riding preferences) without it. I chose the PR7 because it had everything I wanted for a do it all bike without all of the unnecessary technology. I do not want abs and ride modes. I wanted good off-road suspension, a comfortable saddle, minimal wind protection, and a minimum of 200 miles of fuel range.
