    Glad you got to get out and ride a little Jo! That bike looks good! Can't wait to hear how it is off-road for you, but also how you feel using it on longer stints on the highway, if it has enough top end and comfort for a couple hours or so. Jealous of the throttle response, too haha. Stay warm bro!

      @VeitSchenk Месяц назад

      it's all relative of course - but longer stints on the highway I personally find very comfortable, the longest I've done so far was about 6h, no problem (although, at 1,91m tall, I've installed a very small wind-deflector)

    Looking forward to more videos and your review of the PR7. Your video definitely has piqued my interest in this bike as a lighter weight alternative to my T7, especially for riding BDRs here in the western United States. I put the T7 on the truck scales at my work and, with armor, it weighed 500 lbs with a full tank of fuel. Yikes! That's double the weight of my KTM 500 EXC-F.

    Albanian TET is also stunning if you go that far ☺ But LOTS of riding in Croatia too. The whole coastal line towards Greece is like a dream ❤ ps riding on ice is SUPER FUN. Just don't get the 'regular' road studs.. get longer ones.. rally/enduro spikes.

    Good to see you out on the bike Johannes. And good to see that there’s less snow about. The throttle comment got my attention. I’ve always loved very direct throttles and have often modded bikes to make them more direct. I think maybe a hangover from my road racing days and the need for a quarter turn throttle. My 690 is very direct and I love it. Happy riding and stay safe. Sounds like you have some great adventures coming up!

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад +1

      That's interesting Kym - in any situation where the goal is to go fast, I don't even think about the throttle. But if the response is jerky when I'm slouching on the bike, just looking at the scenery and taking the experience all inn, it can quickly take away much of the joy.

    • @kymcopyriot9776
      @kymcopyriot9776 4 месяца назад

      I think, again, it’s what you’re used to. On a road race bike, when you are tucked in, hanging off, etc, you often simply don’t have the right posture to use your whole arm to apply more throttle. Throttle must be done with just a tiny wrist twist. Likewise, in a fast, tight left hander when the bike is almost dragging on the track, it can be impossible to get a toe underneath the shift lever to start up shifting. I got used to that. So I now prefer ‘upside down’ shifting - one up, five down. I am an odd boy.

  • @keithmoule4154
    @keithmoule4154 4 месяца назад +1

    The new mic is working very well, Johannes. Very clear.
    Your brief visit above 50% throttle brings to mind a story of a Ducati owner who's bike was interrogated by the dealership at the first service. The ECU told the dealer what a naughty boy he had been when he should have been running it in oh so carefully. His warranty was voided. I'm not sure the story was a true one, mind, but...
    I am whiling away days avoiding the cold and salt-laden roads here in the UK by trialling various Mosko Moto luggage combos in the garage on the CCM 404, dreaming of warmer weather - your trip in the snow brings home how much worse the conditions are for you. We both wait for the season to start 😔

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад

      Thanks a lot for the feedback! Of course the voided his warranty, but imagine how much better the customer service would have been if they said "we'll still fix it for you, because we actually care". I don't understand why brands don't understand this aspect of customer service. Short term expense, long term customer/income..
      RUclips is a nice place to spend time during these cold months, I've watched lots of adventure content in warmer climates to stay somewhat sane 😅 All the best Keith

    Yes Johannes, agreed that it is a bit strange there is no obd bluetooth built in or included as a standard accesory, when you include a tablet as your multifunctional screen. I solved it by buying a reasonably cheap obd bluetooth reader. Also installed a Carpe Iter tablet because the Samsung A7 Lite is so terribly slow and hard to read in sunlight. After some fiddling around I even have a gear indicator running on the tablet. Although it is not a real gear indicator, but it calculates the gear through speed and rpm. But it works pretty well.
    You are probably gonna notice the header pipes will rust like crazy and fast also. Contacted AJP in my country and they say AJP is working on pipes with a better coating, coming soon. They haven't paid attention to it much up until now because it appears they sell the vast majority of the bikes with the engine upgrade and the stainless steel pipes. I wasn''t interested in the more powerful ecu kit because I test rode one and it was incredibly jerky and nervous on the throttle.
    I also installed a stronger sidestand, which AJP is including from the late 2023 models on. Looks exactly the same, but less inclined to bend easily.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад

      Thanks a lot for this information. I'd like a gear indicator, but not a must. What I really wanted was coolant temp as it's a sort of safety thing. If the temp is either too high or too low at least I'm aware that something needs to be checked. The headers is a strange type of metal, looks porous and it's black. Most headers I've seen are SS.

      @@JohannesDalen I just bought the PR7 and have installed the OBD scanner from THORK racing. I do have to figure out if I can leave it on the bike (it is on the right below your tablet mount. Not sure if it uses juice from the battery when the key is turned off. The whole electrical circuit should be off but the indicator lights of the ODB scanner stay on for quite a while (a delay in the circuit maybe?). Anyways you have all your engine data like your coolant temp for example. But still no gear indicator :(
      You might want to check NOMAD SWEDEN youtube channel, he is a deep into this mattter.

    I am really curious about your upcoming experiences with the PR7. Rode mine for about 40k kms so far on the Balkan TET from Slovenia to Greece, through the Sahara desert in Morocco, the rocky Spanish Pyrenees and the TET in Turkiye and Georgia and I can only draw one conclusion: it's the best bike I've ever had (for my kind of travel). I have recently upgraded from my DRZ400 to a euro 5, 22 model Gas Gas ES 700 and was expecting the jerky throttle that you had with the 701 but that was not the case. I then spoke to a dyno tuner who told me that the 701 is tuned differently to the 690 and Gas Gas. My throttle response is smooth even with the Rade airbox wings exhaust. The fuel economy is also impressive at around 4.2L per 100km. If you have a chance you should test ride the Gas Gas.

    Have a '22, so been a year on the bike and loving almost every minute on the bike... OBD is an issue, I purchased a cheap Chinese one to work with the DMD2 dashboard and it did so for a while, however since the 'Beta version' has come online, it no longer works... Thork racing have a brand specific one available, along with a handle bar remote for the pad. I fully agree that the OBD should be standard, as so much else is! My main issue right now is the fuel cap, (which I guess is good, if its my only gripe at 15000km)... The fuel cap gasket seems to have expanded and hence very difficult to remove, needs refinement. Enjoy!

      I've read about the fuel cap and how it may allow dirt to enter the tank since it's recessed. I think I will put on an aftermarket one that fixes this. All will be covered in an upcoming mods episode. Thanks again Steve, ride safe!

    A question. Did you adjust the brake line routing? On my PR7, the brake hose is directly in my line of site of the small digital display. I cannot read it. Most of my miles so far have been off road and I removed the tablet and mount because of freezing weather and infrequent rides.
    I purchased a Bluetooth OBD dongle for 5 US dollars from Temu. It connects to the tablet and shows me the engine data, however, I have to remove it when not riding the bike because it drains the battery. There are more expensive options from Thork
    about 100 US dollars) that will shutdown and not drain the battery when not in use.
    I have the US model with the race exhaust and tune. The power delivery is very strong in the low and mid range, but still very smooth and predictable. But the bike is a bit too loud for my preference. I am currently looking for a baffle/spark arrestor that I can install in the muffler that will make it legal to ride on US National Forest trails. A spark arrestor is required, and the maximum legal noise output is 96DB.
    That you for making this video, I appreciate it. I planned on riding today as the weather is improving, but my region has often has high winds when the seasons are changing. I dislike riding in the wind so I stayed home and smoked a beef brisket instead.

    Id like to have one as a middlewieght adventure bike but would probably set one up for more on road use than pure off road. (Maybe 70%road vs 30% off?)

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад

      My first thought is something more road oriented. The PR7 is a dirt oriented dual sport with long suspension travel that will wallow on the road and the single won't be too happy sitting on the highway. What is it about the PR7 that interests you, the weight?
      Then again, any twin will quickly be 30kg heavier - better for the road, much worse for offroad riding. What kind of offroad trails do you think you will be riding on? Mostly easy gravel roads or more technical stuff?

      Både Himalayan og den nye 390 som aldri kommer ser ut som spennende sykler, men vil fremdeles være ganske mange hakk ned fra en PR7, men så koster jo PR7 dobbelt så mye og. Hvis du noen gang befinner deg på sørlandet kan du kjøre min alt du vil!

      @@JohannesDalen ja, jeg har ikke klart å velge retning enda. Jeg kan ta meg råd til dyrere sykkel men jeg har blitt veldig glad i følelsen av å ha en billig sykkel med mindre motor. Jeg må nok bare sitte litt stille i båten og se hva som dukker opp fremover. Om PR7 blir tilgjengelig så lever derimot pengene mine farlig, for det er ikke mye konkurranse for den i Norge egentlig.

    funny. I found the throttle on my 2023 a bit snatchy. rolling on, and off, the throttle. No way to scratch....anything... and take you hand of the throttle. The OBD thing is easy, since the port is just next to the main screen, on the left side of the bike. You don't get all data, just whatever the bike shares, so you might still have some readings not showing up on the dash..

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад

      Could that have something to do with it? The one I rode in Portugal had the power up kit and if I recall correctly that felt alot snappier than my non-powered up at home. Remember I barely touched the throttle and the front came up 😅 power and throttle response isn't the same thing I know, but if it's quicker to react as well, could potentially make it worse

    • @steveh545

      @@JohannesDalen could well be. And, some people want a snappier throttle to lift the front wheel. Some add throttle cams to give quick response. I wanted more lazy.

      No, I left around five years ago. I loved the job but I was constantly working, and when I wasn't at work I was tired from working nights. My son was a newborn at the time and I was a terrible dad, never at home or always tired.

    Breaking is a myth no? Created by manufacturers to create some kind of attachment and make their product special for new owners. I've had a few brand new vehicles and there's been ZERO difference, perhaps even made it worse, driving carefully in the beginning. My recipe now is let it heat up then throttle to the max!! Redline repeatedly, avoid lugging. Done. 👍

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  4 месяца назад +1

      You know, I'm sure you're right, can't imagine a "proper" break in matters much. Imagine if someone like Fortnine bought several, similar bikes and made a test like only he can do?

      Three heat cycles in the workshop, change the oil and nail it. I've been building race engines for forty years and that's what you do. 1000km and half the time you'd be looking at a rebuild for most anyway, swapping out the top end between races in MX is kinda normal, just keep on the oil changes early on.
