    This book for me was the height of Stephanie Meyer being deep without realizing it. The writing isn’t amazing but it’s a decent portrayal of how victims of abuse can become swept up in criminal activities they don’t want to be doing and the relationships that form from shared trauma.
    I’m interested by how many people are frustrated that Bree wouldn’t just bail on Diego and save herself and if they’d feel similarly if it was him abandoning her rather than holding onto hope.

    • @shareetz3154
      @shareetz3154 Год назад +21

      @@shareetz3154 quite a few of the frustrating details that Amanda mentioned are also reflected in that dynamic, especially the lies that the abuser tells that seem obviously fake to us on the outside but are paralyzingly terrifying to the victim and prevent them from seeking help. I thought of it more as a 'refining' than a super-dramatic change- like, wounds & scars heal (even broken bones, in Bella's case)- & even Bella's _hair's_ enhanced by the venom - I can't recall, since it's been *an absolute **_age_* since I read the books, but I believe James was described as quite average-looking, & apparently even being made a vampire didn't really change that...

    I honestly loved Fred. He seemed like such a cool dude. I was honestly hoping that Edward or Alice would have found Fred in Breaking Dawn, and would have formed a friendship, or at least an understanding with each other.
    Like Fred saying, “I understand she’s dead, but thanks for trying to save her”.
    And Edward saying, “Her last thoughts were of you. She never understood friendship before she knew you.” And then they leave on good terms.

    If it's ok to ask, what are Resurrection and Jacob? (Mentioned at 7:21.) I've tried Googling but I just get a bunch of stuff about Jacob the character and religious symbolism in the Twilight series 😩

      Siobhan, Alistair, Victoria--
      Makenna (Luka and their family and their ints w/the Volturi) and her relationship with Charles--
      Demetri's time with Amun--
      the Denalis as Sasha "collected" them and then her creation of Vasilii--
      Chelsea/Charmion's origins and what the deal is with Afton--
      Maria's first coven who all died--
      The Romanians when they were in power--
      even just Cauis against that one werewolf he never forgave.

      I adored them back in the day so I just might - cause yeah, they got wild. I remember my middle school got the first 3 I think, but only let the 7th/8th graders read them - and let me be the metric of 'is this okay for kids' - like, yeah no shit the 12 year old reading the vampire book with finger blood transfer is gonna say it's fine

    Yeah I read this right when it came out years ago look I’m not proud of it either but I very much did read all the twilight books as soon as they came out and pretended I didn’t care about them, cuz everyone else was clowning on them. So I kind of appreciate that people are getting back into them. They did have a lot of cringe aspects but I still enjoyed them for what they were.
