Actually, there's a single species of tapir in southeast Asia. It would really make sense for the baku to be based off of that.
Except the mo, the Chinese mythological creature that the Japanese imported as the baku, is based on... the panda. Somehow they messed up a real animal in their own country so badly that the only part of it that's not obviously wrong is the coloration. Also they claimed it ate metal.

Lol, the Baku is basically my prescription for Prazosin to take the edge off of PTSD nightmares. I don’t wake up in a pool of sweat twice as wide as my body feeling scared so much, so I can fall back asleep faster. The pharmaceutical industry captured Baku spirits to help them make everything that’s labeled “Take at bedtime for nightmares.”

Usually described as a creature with Human torso and arms (but longer than normal), and horse head, legs, and tail.
Bon S funny enough I’m also from the Philippines and with a name Bon. So for me a “Tikbalang” is mostly like the opposite of a centaur a human body with a horse head

Just because you've drawn the Vodyanoy and I remembered them from the first Witcher game, you guys should definitely draw The Witcher monsters you've never heard of. Trust me, there are A LOT of strange creatures, perfect for you lot trying to draw them!
Most monsters in The Witcher do come from Polish folklore.

From when I was a kid up through my late 20's all I ever had was nightmares. I would have loved a Baku to come and eat all my dreams. Have as much as you want Baku-san, I don't need any of these.
in my country, the "vodyanoy" (vodník) is just a green old man with a long mustache and long wet hair that just chills around the lake on a willow and takes people under the water and drowns them to steal their soul and puts it in a little underwater cup... but he's shown sometimes like a good guy, and sometimes like a guy that kills everything that gets near the water.. he's normally in kids cartoons..

Please draw mythical creatures based on fans’ descriptions of creatures from their culture’s folklore (e.g. the Ziz, in Jewish folklore, is a big birdy but also kinda like a cat, the boss of all sky-dwelling dudes, whose wings are so big they can eclipse the sun).

Um Actually the Baku inspired a total of 4 Pokémon: Drowzee, Hypno, Muna and Musharna
I first heard of the tikbalang because of their mention in World of Warcraft where an NPC sold necklaces to keep them away (it was the only mention of them in the game and the NPC was portrayed as a snake oil salesman type). I've always pictured them as looking like deathclaws from the Fallout series (at least the older ones, not sure if the newer ones look the same) for some reason.
I always hate that the thumbnail ruins one of the drawings rather just using the re-drawn topic mug as the thumbnail. The fun in watching is the surprise.
You know sometimes I think that, but when it comes to some drawings, jesus I dont expect the bottom part of the drawing

I definitely feel that but also like more often than not, I forget what the thumbnail looks like about 30 seconds into the video. Maybe that's just me not paying much attention to it but that's how I've gotten around the spoiler
I felt that until I realized most of the complete drawings look nothing like I expected them to. I think it adds to the surprise. Especially when they're Julia's drawings
This episode is such a gem; I forget it exists and then it comes back to haunt me. Nathan's horrible cat-tapir, Jacob's poor sea fish man, Julia's voice crack when she asks "whErE eLsE wiLL hE pOoP". Absolutely amazing

I can just imagine what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would translate to from Japanese or other ones where the title would be very short and distorted.
Ummm actually, the tikbalang is known for jumping through trees and stealing bad children. Also, it apparently smokes a cigar. That’s according to my mom, who lived in the Philippines (granted, she was pretty young at the time, so it’s possible she misremembered it).
It was the Kapre that smoked cigars from what I remember.

Can I just express my utter delight that every time you do voices for a drawing, it’s exclusively from the throat and nose.
I have only one request, Please make mega evolutions of Julia's pokemon and if possible horific pokedex entries to go along with them (Example: Mega glalie The excess energy from Mega Evolution spilled over from its mouth, breaking its jaw. It spews endless blizzards.)

Ever heard of a Selkie? It's a Scottish water spirit that takes the form of a seal in water and a human clad in seal skin on land. They're supposed to be beautiful. Though I can't find any pictures of male Selkies I believe there are males and females both
Shockblast Clone of Shockwave there are, in fact I recall reading a story of a woman who tricked a male selkie into staying on land by running Orkney grass on his neck. They ended up marrying.

There's a very beautiful animated film about selkies too! It's called "Song of the Sea". I was lucky to catch it on its very limited cinema run in my country.

I knew all these monsters beforehand, so it was entertaining seeing you guys make them up lol. I'm Filipino, and I've seen some nasty iterations of tikbalang from locals (gangly limbs, rotting, etc.), but it's usually portrayed as an aesthetically buff horse man in comicbooks, especially if they're protagonists. The Trese animation in Netflix made them not-so-horsey, so there's that. I love Julia's monster though! It reminds me of another local monster, the Sigbin, which is kind of a monstrous dog with its head twisted between its legs and under its body. Nasty twisty lil guy.
