    For Karakoncolos, him asking a riddle and you answering with something including black in it makes no sense because he doesn't ask a riddle. He asks you a question like "What is your name?" or "Where are you going?" and you need to answer with something including "kara" in it, which is the Turkish word for dark or black. Because it isn't a riddle, you can just answer with something like "I am going to Blackville." or something similar and he will let you go.

    The Yule Lads-
    Stekkjarstaur/ Sheep-Cote Clod- Tries to suckle from sheep, but is impaired by stiff, wooden peg legs.
    Giljagaur/ Gully Gawk- Hides in gullies, waiting for an opportunity to sneak into a barn and steal milk and milk foam.
    Stúfur/ Stubby- Abnormally short compared to the other lads. Steals dishes to eat the food crust and stains left on them.
    Þvörusleikir/ Spoon Licker- Steals Þvörur (a type of a wooden spoon with a long handle - I. þvara) to lick. Is extremely thin due to malnutrition.
    Pottaskefill/ Pot-Scraper- Steals leftovers from pots and licks them clean.
    Askasleikir/ Bowl-Licker- Hides under beds waiting for someone to put down their "askur" (a type of bowl with a lid used instead of dishes), which he then steals.
    Hurðaskellir/ Door-Slammer- Likes to stomp around and slam doors, especially during the night, waking people up.
    Skyrgámur/ Skyr-Gobbler- A Yule Lad with a great affinity for skyr, a type of yogurt. He eats it all.
    Bjúgnakrækir/ Sausage-Swiper- Hides in the rafters and snatches sausages that are being smoked.
    Gluggagægir/ Window-Peeper- A snoop who looks through windows in search of things to steal.
    Gáttaþefur/ Doorway-Sniffer- Has an abnormally large nose and an acute sense of smell which he uses to locate laufabrauð.
    Ketkrókur/ Meat-Hook- Uses a hook to steal meat that is left out especially cooked lamb.
    Kertasníkir/ Candle-Stealer- Follows children in order to steal their candles (which were once made of tallow and thus edible).

    Once upon a time, a tomtenisse found no butter in his porridge. Outraged, he killed a cow, then continued eating. He then saw that the butter had simply melted to the bottom! So he brought a replacement cow from some other farm. Such is the tomte. Short tempered, but fair. Never to be underestimated or taken for granted.

      Another tomte helped out, as he would, when the hay was to be collected. But he carried one single straw at a time, and was scorned. Then he began carrying a straw at a time in the wrong direction. As time went by, work on the farm turned dreary and uphill indeed.

      As opposed to that golden coal?? That part was weird. But good try.

    • @keithwilson13
      @keithwilson13 6 лет назад

      @@MommyOfZoeAndLiam It doesn't make any sense if the answer to the riddle absolutely requires the word black. If that's the case, then it's actually easier to answer the riddles, PLUS it's a hindrance to the riddle asker to narrow their riddle list. It only makes sense if you could feasibly answer the riddle without the word black, and still fail

    • @Rankurusu777
      @Rankurusu777 6 лет назад +2

      Well say the answer is something like "black cat", if I said Cat only then that's it, flaming demon ape gets me or "licorace" as opposed to black licorace. I think that's the idea. I wouldn't know how to create a riddle around that but that's how I imagine it works. Something that can be black that I'm not thinking specifically in black.

    • @keithwilson13
      @keithwilson13 6 лет назад

      @@Rankurusu777 I think ideally, in your example, cat or licorice would make sense as an answer, but black cat or licorice would make more sense or a different kind of sense. But like, it seems like literally nobody has an example of a riddle this good

    I am from Sweden! The "Tomtenisse" (Yes, it is one long word) is basically the Santa's aids, Santa's elves in other cultures, but the mythological gnomes is based upon them. They are not originally these sweet and nice creatures they're usually portrayed as in fairy tales, they are actually quite clever and shady and can destroy your life-stocks if you don't treat them with respect. :) Oh, by the way...
