First Frederica, followed by Renee Fleming.......we Americans can be so proud of them. So great to know that we still have opera to help us retain great class in this troubled country with so many problems.

Such a marvellous voice and acting ! I think I've positively fell in love ...
And her french here is impressively flawless (rythm, vowel pronunciation), at a very rare level even amongst usual non-french singers for this role.
    Bravo Madame !

She's wearing the same beautiful earrings that she wears in her fabulous performance of Dvorak's Song to the Moon (also on youtube). Must be her lucky earrings!

Her voice had luminessence. This quality she mastered. I have seen her make the most famous people look like amateurs because of her expertise. At this time in her life she was really untouchable. This and her personal warmth made her absolutely a super star. To become what she was as a lyric mezzo is perhaps the hardest thing to accomplish in opera. Her technique makes her sound natural but she mastered that. At this point pure magic.
