+DaZeD Merlin There are no air pockets. The paint bonds to the surface. The water will dry and you are left with the paint in the shape of the water droplet. Awesome effect. A friend airbrushed a similar design on one of my bikes. Black base, with yellow water drops. Got the water to run down the tank so the yellow ended up looking like it was running down the tank.

what's wrong with everyone? It might not appeal to everyone, but if you're going to criticize try to be constructive about it. he's just trying to share some paint tricks he knows.
This is great. Ive seen this on a few lowriders and quite a bit from my uncles Rod & Custom magazines from the 50s-70s. I've seen a couple of your videos and this is the stuff of painting legends. Secrets and tips like this die with people, and you're actually sharing it. I wouldve never guessed to spray at a low angle like that. Thank you.
Unfortunately, our planet is doomed because there are obviously very few parents teaching their children manners these days. I'm absolutely disgusted with the amount of negative comments this video got. This man was only trying to give useful tips to people interested in this art. If you don't like it, watch another video. Do any of you remember the phrase, "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"? Everyone these days thinks it's okay to tear other people down "just because", but the second someone tears you down, you get offended. It's very disturbing. Sir, I don't know you and I am not an artist, but I appreciate your willingness to be helpful and teach others what you know. On behalf of all decent people, I apologize for those that know no better. Have a great weekend! And for anyone who is going to sink any lower than you already did when making your initial rude comment; grow up and have some class.
I just had a tiny bit of my faith in humanity restored by you, I came here to do this for a guitar and was absolutely disgusted by the amount of negativity. Maybe green just isn't quite the right colour, after all he did say that you can experiment with different colours. Kids need to learn some manners or once they're in the real world they're gonna learn their place the hard way.
yes! Exactly this ^ . And the funny thing is that these little keyboard warriors wouldn't dare say crap in person, but they act all tough and mighty when they're behind a screen.
Guitar try a one color and go some gradients below your original color bv; Red and flow it to a gradient of orange depends on how deep you wanna go with it,need more depth try some gray/black (shadow) just like in this vid from one side spraying at the end of all spray 3 to 4 layers lack/vernis on it.The effect will superb!! Good luck.

please just do a slow panning shot on the final reveal. that is the climax. different zooms and angles is ok. but a slow shot so we can see the detailed results. always good to take a still at the very end and leave it as a "final image" for several seconds as u close out the vid. -- I give u this advice bc I was frustrated that I didn't really get to see the final product with all the crazy editing at warp speed. GREAT tutorial however.. just trying to help u improve

You can see in the light when he does the close up that the paint is all flat and fired but all water is gone just leaving it looking wet....truly awesome!

I'm excited to give this a shot with some different color schemes. I imagine you could even pool the water into larger and smaller shapes to displace paint in other patterns. Have you ever tried using mineral spirits with the spray enamel for similar effects?
I always put the object I'm spraying up on some kind of pedestals, like some spray can caps. That way dust from the table, or dried paint dust doesn't blow back up on the surface being painted. Also it allows to paint all the way down to the edge.
First off. It turned out better than I imagined. What color did you use for the shadow? Just plain black? Is grey also an option? What's the secret to this effect? Does the paint simply sink down at the applied angle? So after painting both angles you just let the waterdropplets dry out?
Very nice work! :) I do wish that you didn't swoosh the camera around so much, that we can't properly see the effects. Would love to see some macro action on these kinds of case mods! Thanks for sharing! #inspired

+Commando Designs I'm a computer enthusiast and I'm looking to use this idea but not to consider it a 'water drop' effect but more of a 'frost' effect kind of like how you might see your windshield on a cold early morning. Your video explains everything nice and neatly, but my issue is that the computer design I will be working with is on a white surface which I could change my surface to a very light grey and still be ok. How would you suggest I attack this case considering the color i have to work with?
hi I really like the idea of starting spray painting at Christmas I just wondered is it expensive to do(for the most part)? how much could I buy to start up?
+Gridfull Yes, always. Okay, so they made it easier to mod games on a console, until a console does everything a regular computer does, it's still just a crappy console. Your pc gets outdated, you get new parts and upgrade it. Your console gets outdated, you have to fork over $1000 for the latest console. Your console stops working, you have to fork over another $1000 for the latest console, your PC stops working, you replace a part for under $100 or buy a brand new one for around $400.
No, I have it quite correct. You can buy a core i5 computer tower brand new at The Source in Halifax for under $400 with 6 to 8 gb of ram in it, then you can get a 2gb graphics card on ebay for $20 to $50 which would make it a really decent and fast gaming computer. Hell, my computer is nearly as fast as them and I only have a dual core with 5gb of ram and a 1gb graphics card. Every console when it first comes out costs $800 to $1000 or more. If you don't believe that, you haven't been going around when the consoles come out. It doesn't take much to turn a $300 to $400 computer into a super fast gaming rig.
lepayen I have never seen a console over $500 and I do alot of gaming on Console and pc and to have a have way decent gaming pc you spend no less then $800 I think you haven't been around to buy consoles, and yeah a shitty pc can play some games. So sounds like you need to look around. Have a good day
My shitty computer can play every game out there as it is. If I want to run the latest games with the graphics maxed, I just need a better graphics card. If you haven't seen a console under $500 then you haven't been shopping when they come out. After a year or 2 the price drops to around 500. Sounds like you're just an idiot.
so I tryed this out with different paints. it does work but you can't use the fan tips from krylon, rustoleum has a more rounded pattern and works quite well for the color being painted over the water. but did get some cool effects from painting striaght down onto the water. and after the water evaporates its kinda smooth but enough clear coats will hide that leaving a smooth finish.
joe shmo They are square scuff pads you buy at an automotive paint store. You should use a tack cloth too, not sure if he did. 3mcollision.com/products/abrasives/sponges
everyone being typical youtube critic, but hey I thought it looked pretty darn good after clear coat considering it's just spray cans. thanks for sharing.
@@Commandodesigns -- Most people now days are just followers man, ignored the haters. I thought it looked awesome, thanks for this tip, im definitely going to use it. I subscribed. By the way i had just a few questions if you have the time please. Are the water droplets raised up after it dries? If so, is there water in the bumps?
Is it a smooth feeling if you touch it with your hands after you're completely done or does it have any kind of texture?? I didn't think it did but it just looked like it contained some sort of roughness to it.
+Deathly Gamer (Anthony Yeo) my thoughts exactly, from the very beginning it was splotchy, i mean hes making an instructional video and he couldnt go to the hardware store and buy a can of green paint? and again when finished, it looked all splotchy, kinda like anything id have whipped up in my garage when i was a teenager, this technique has merit, but i doubt spraypaint is the way to go.
Yeah I would rather just do a custom three coloured paint job not anything like this garbage... I think he was trying to get the effect that it had water drops on it but really it looks terrible
We own a familly food /snak/restaurant and when we redid the paintjob years ago, the guy who did it used that technic for the whole interior of the shop, with blue, white and gold. The effect looks like a rainy summer afternoon its really cool.
Heh, he went on about how important the angle is, then sprayed all three pieces in different directions. The face panel is sprayed from the bottom up, the right panel is sprayed from top to bottom, and the left panel is sprayed from front to back :P I'm guessing they repainted it or used another for the final shot.
I think this is a cool effect for sure! Experimenting with different colors and maybe exaggerating the water drop size and making different sizes of drops a bit more would really make the water effect pop. But this certainly gives some great ideas!
Just wondering, once the painting process has been done, will the painted panel be flat to the touch or will it keep the bubbles of the water shape? How durable is this finish if a bubble was to be rubbed against will it damage the effect. Just concidering this effect for a outdoor sign. Thanks 👍 BTW great tutorial!
When the water drops are there the 2nd and 3rd colors of paint sit on top of the water beads. When the water evaporates that paint lays down flat. It results in a sort of shadow gradient effect. It all ends up flat; not textured at all. Clear coat and sand and buff and you can make it flat/smooth as glass. Flatness is actually the biggest limitation of this technique; it works best if the substrate is flat and level. On a curved surface the water wants to just run down to the low spots. It will work on a certain mild amount of curve - the water will stay put due to surface tension. But it can be tricky. Do a couple test runs on scrap before painting something important.
I plan on using this awesome technique on a kit guitar I am building. Can someone tell me if I should stain and then do my poly coats before I do this or can I do it right on the stain. I worry about the wood absorbing the water.
I've never seen this effect before and I've done a lot of custom paint on bikes years ago, is this in the last 10 or 20 years or longer,......wonderful effects and very well done.
Dude. That's pretty cool. I'm not a Xbox gamer. I'm PC all the way. But I find this really cool. I may try this with my PC. :D Nice job dude. The only problem was at the end you moved the camera pretty fast so it wasn't getting the best quality of the video because it blurred out. Just a fyi for your future videos. xP Again. Thanks for the vid.
After the last hit of yellow, did you let everything dry completely then spray the clear coat or hit it with the clear coat when it was still wet? Cool effect 😎
Dude, that's cool as can be. I love it and and am going to try it real soon. one question for ya; after I spray both paints in both directions how long do I wait to do anything and then at the point the you say that it is ok to do something, what shall my next step be ? Please I don't Know and I must ask those who do.
2 questions, what color was the first coat you put on the water drops? And when you put the yellow or the water drop still there? Or had they dried up? I hate all of the negative comments you got here I really enjoyed your video
Dude you talk way to much. I kept fast forwarding to get to the parts where you were actually working. I also agree with the guy who said it reminded him of a church pastor making a video and trying to be cool. That paint technique is out of style... very early 90's. Some shit should just remain dead. I bet you wear Drakar Noir to.
+graham19922011 He tried to insult me lol. Actually all he did was make me laugh. Paint jobs like this need to stay burried. Case in point... Have you ever seen a badass car that has the right motor dressed up looking like a brand new freshly minted coin with a bad paint job? Or one with a bad set of rims? That's what this paint technique is. Ya can't polish a turd and ya shouldn't put a turd on the polish. I could see some dude stuck in the year 1991 with his mullet pulling up in a old style gmc jimmy with that paint job rocking out to winger. That's why slapnutts got upset because he is "that guy"! He is all the rage a party of one.
joe brown and yet I'm still more than you will ever be ;) mighty defensive for such a simple comment. I'm scarred....rolls eyes if you are ever in indio,California feel free to take me up on that offer.
Thanks for sharing this tip.Good for any beginner painter that wants to be original in his or her own way.I think it could lead someone to a new style all their own.And that color turned out pretty cool.
Can I paint a logo on a spinnaker sail and what paint who you recommend for uv protection, used only in dry weather, but it can't run, must be permanent!! ThanksSandra
Would it be possible to do this to a truck? I've an idea for mine and this looks like it would work. Although I think if I let the rain do the work for me I'd get at it with some rattle cans. Would it work?
please reply fast since I'm thinking of doing this to my AR15 but do I have to put down a clear coat or would it work without a clear coat? and can I spray it out of an airbrush?
is awesome! I do this to my Xbox too from watch you on this video. I make my PlayStation midnight blue with ghost flames and the look is rad and many friends say they love my skill to paint. I am excited to make this on my Xbox now! Thank you for share with us how to do this on Xbox!
Okay, looks pretty cool...So what happens later when you need to wipe some dust off it? I would think all the bubbles you made using the water would just flake off. Am I correct about that???
so does it have a 3d feel to it or is the surface smooth with a 3d look. basically, did yhe paint dry over the water and you can pop the water paint bubbles. hard to explain. is the surface smooth or rough.
+Tony D. does it last very long? seems like the water would compromise the paints integrity and make not last as long, and does the water just stay in between the paint or is it able to evaporate? mainly curious cause of you using it on an electronic.
I loved this! I did mine with matte white as a base and matte black and chrome silver as the drops and it looks sick!! Thanks man! Love it!
Really cool effect, but whats the quality like with water just chillin' under the paint?
+Julian Morris Petrevski The water evaporates completely so there is no remaining moisture under the paint.
+Commando Designs I assume there remains air inside, won't they crack eventually?
+DaZeD Merlin There are no air pockets. The paint bonds to the surface. The water will dry and you are left with the paint in the shape of the water droplet. Awesome effect.

Wow that looks amazing. Once that clear coat is applied it just looks awesome.
Thanks for this video. I've always wondered how this was done.
I think it just looks like a bad paint job
+Christian thom i think it toooooo xd
agreed
lol, was about to say that, this looks super ugly
you said it
+Christian thom Yeah, kids can do that by standing to close and making it look like shit.
Is it a smooth feeling if you touch it with your hands after you're completely done or does it have any kind of texture?? I didn't think it did but it just looked like it contained some sort of roughness to it.
That's not a good looking paint job at all
+Deathly Gamer (Anthony Yeo) my thoughts exactly, from the very beginning it was splotchy, i mean hes making an instructional video and he couldnt go to the hardware store and buy a can of green paint? and again when finished, it looked all splotchy, kinda like anything id have whipped up in my garage when i was a teenager, this technique has merit, but i doubt spraypaint is the way to go.
Yeah I would rather just do a custom three coloured paint job not anything like this garbage... I think he was trying to get the effect that it had water drops on it but really it looks terrible
it kinda looks like it's been melted and has those plastic being blown bubbles...
Yeah
+Deathly Gamer (Anthony Yeo) yea it looks like someone tried to make a cool paint job but it filled with bubbles
At first I wasn't feeling it. Then once the clear coat was added I was in love with it. That came out fantastically.
don't even look like water drops, more like a orange peel texture that you would do on a wall or a ceiling
Dito

We own a familly food /snak/restaurant and when we redid the paintjob years ago, the guy who did it used that technic for the whole interior of the shop, with blue, white and gold.
The effect looks like a rainy summer afternoon its really cool.
How to fuck up your xbox tutorial
lmaooo wrekt
xbox's case
Hey Cammando, I have a PS3 and would like to know if you think this would work on it? I love this look!
Heh, he went on about how important the angle is, then sprayed all three pieces in different directions. The face panel is sprayed from the bottom up, the right panel is sprayed from top to bottom, and the left panel is sprayed from front to back :P
I'm guessing they repainted it or used another for the final shot.
I think this is a cool effect for sure! Experimenting with different colors and maybe exaggerating the water drop size and making different sizes of drops a bit more would really make the water effect pop. But this certainly gives some great ideas!
Thanks. It's definitely not new. But it is pretty cool.
For sure!
Said stay low..immediately stands up.
Ya he stands up, but the can is in the same spot dumb ass.
Just wondering, once the painting process has been done, will the painted panel be flat to the touch or will it keep the bubbles of the water shape?
How durable is this finish if a bubble was to be rubbed against will it damage the effect.
Just concidering this effect for a outdoor sign. Thanks 👍
BTW great tutorial!
Why does this remind me of a Church rap video that tries to be cool ?
+Stephen Connolly because you spent too much time in church?
I'm an atheist ... *****
***** it reminds me of the Christian video with the old people rapping and saying that Jesus is the original G haha
seems oddly specific for people who imply they don't attend some sort of church.
Not odd ... I don't go to church, that's my reason .. Simple
I plan on using this awesome technique on a kit guitar I am building. Can someone tell me if I should stain and then do my poly coats before I do this or can I do it right on the stain. I worry about the wood absorbing the water.
This is the most console thing ever.. Merging Xbox with Mountain Dew...
I know it prob sounds like a redundant question, but you do have to dry off any remaining water drops before you put on the clear coat right?
who else had this look at the end presentation ? >> O.o
I've never seen this effect before and I've done a lot of custom paint on bikes years ago, is this in the last 10 or 20 years or longer,......wonderful effects and very well done.
Probably around 10 years ago is when I first saw it.
How to make anything look like you didnt know what you were doing 101
yeah....typically i try to avoid globs of paint showing all over my parts.
"stay real low guys"
-stands up
+Jonathan Banuelos Lol. Yeah, that's pretty funny.
Slow clap.... warranted
He says he's married but has no ring? ( :
After the last hit of yellow, did you let everything dry completely then spray the clear coat or hit it with the clear coat when it was still wet? Cool effect 😎
I don't think that green was the best color for this...
it is your opinion , I think that green looks amazing
+TempestIArrow yea
One question please. You need wait until the water dries? or you crash the water bubble whit more water? thanks and sorry for my english
he colored it so his waranty doesnt work next day he gets red ring :D
SupperGammer Pending on what RROD it is. Its really easy to fix with a heatgun :D
Dude, that's cool as can be. I love it and and am going to try it real soon. one question for ya; after I spray both paints in both directions how long do I wait to do anything and then at the point the you say that it is ok to do something, what shall my next step be ? Please I don't Know and I must ask those who do.
I wish you had stopped zooming and moving the camera at the end so i could have a better look at the effect!
The reason he didn't was so you had less of a chance to see how shit it looks.
How did you lay the clear? Do you let the whole piece dry and water evaporate first. Thanks
So... you gave your Xbox some acne?!
great trick :)how long would you need to let the water evaporate for and what would you use to make it quicker?
It doesn't take long. You can mix some rubbing alcohol with the water and it will evaporate faster.
+Commando Designs good idea thanks for reply!
honestly it looks like a pickle
+Anthony Stuck Yeah, I guess your right on that one....
+joe brown wow you're so trendy. everyone is impressed.
+Jeff Smithson mental midget
Oh look another mental midget
Awesome you put it back together and it was the coolest looking xbox I ever seen
This would be a 4 minute video if you didn't rabbit so much.
Thanks for sharing this tip.Good for any beginner painter that wants to be original in his or her own way.I think it could lead someone to a new style all their own.And that color turned out pretty cool.
Console equivalent of water cooling.
+Dominik Gajda not at all...
How is that?
Dominik Gajda
water cooling actually cools the pc this is just a paint...
zach crane *facepalm* Please stop talking before you hurt yourself.
Dominik Gajda
i know alot about computers i have a custom build wich is water cooled
Can I paint a logo on a spinnaker sail and what paint who you recommend for uv protection, used only in dry weather, but it can't run, must be permanent!! ThanksSandra
looks more like a sticker full of air bubbles lol
This is awesome. But, if I want to do black water drops on a white surface, is that possible?
That looks terrible
You clearly are alone. Maybe just navigate to a page with something more aligned with your underdeveloped palate
Ever feel a soft touch controller? I want to recreate that effect. I'm asking advice on how to create a rubber grip feeling ontop of plastics
Looks like every teens acne I have ever seen at McDonald's .that asked me if I wanted fries with that.
Why would you look at their acne in the first place? Nasty ass.
Erick RubioCx Because my eyes work idiot.
Bill Randolph that's good but idk why you would want to look a t their acne. Kinda gross don't you think?
Bill Randolph I hate ISIS. I seen the videos of them murdering and its just harsh.
Bill Randolph idk have you been living in your moms basement for the past year? Seen your comments on a basement design video lmao that's just sad.
Would it be possible to do this to a truck? I've an idea for mine and this looks like it would work. Although I think if I let the rain do the work for me I'd get at it with some rattle cans. Would it work?
"Just dust it" he says as he paints the whole thing black
please reply fast since I'm thinking of doing this to my AR15 but do I have to put down a clear coat or would it work without a clear coat? and can I spray it out of an airbrush?
Looks bad to me
That looks pretty damn stupid
Like you
+aj garcia that's a cute comeback kid
yeah
+Christopher Gutierrez It's all personal preference, I like the design but not the colours used so I would use different ones. All preference.
It’s all personal preference, “Kid”
is awesome! I do this to my Xbox too from watch you on this video. I make my PlayStation midnight blue with ghost flames and the look is rad and many friends say they love my skill to paint. I am excited to make this on my Xbox now! Thank you for share with us how to do this on Xbox!
So much speak... ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
That's a totally bad ass texture! You should make more spray paint texture tutorials. Do you think canned wall texture would also work for this?
Probably not. It would get way too messy I think. Interesting idea though.
it looks like a failed paint job
LAUS art you look like a failed human being
haha
which one is the first color you use after the water drops? or which one would you recomend me to use if my proyect is yellow?
looks super, super, crap !!!
I think you're trying to say; "it looks super crappy"
Would this finish work well using same color in a finish or is a similar color always recommended? Thank you.
It's super easy to overdo it. Try some test pieces first.
that voice xD
Okay, looks pretty cool...So what happens later when you need to wipe some dust off it? I would think all the bubbles you made using the water would just flake off. Am I correct about that???
Yes... you are. You have to be careful.
so does it have a 3d feel to it or is the surface smooth with a 3d look. basically, did yhe paint dry over the water and you can pop the water paint bubbles. hard to explain. is the surface smooth or rough.
No it sits flat.
Thanks Tony! Is there some specific spray paint to customize a laptop? I think the plastic is Polystyrene, but not sure, Whats your recommendation?
+Miguel Canal Sand it down a tiny bit with 800 grit, then use a light coat of adhesion promoter.
+Tony D. does it last very long? seems like the water would compromise the paints integrity and make not last as long, and does the water just stay in between the paint or is it able to evaporate? mainly curious cause of you using it on an electronic.
+Austen Branch the color actually lays flat, i just seems to be sticking out but it isnt, and there is also no water left
+12elax thank you ^~^
+Miguel Canal Krylon makes spray paint that sticks real well to plastic. Even the more flexible type of plastics.
can you please tell me what brand and color spray paint you used in the beginning of your video?😊
I just used Krylon for this project.
