    Thank you for rounding up a nice collection of information for us.
    I only have one chicken at the moment...she is not spoiled at all...lol But I will be increasing my little flock soon.
    Last couple of winters I fixed a heated water bowl for her. That seemed to really bring in mice into her pen. So this year I switched her metal water bowl to a plastic type of bowl with no heat. Not noticed any rodent visitation or residency.
    I take in her food every evening and bring out fresh in the mornings as well as dump the water each evening.
    Also down here in Southeast Texas, in warm weather snakes (chicken snakes/rat snakes) are a problem. I wouldn't mind them around if I didn't have chickens. But because they will eat eggs, baby chicks and even kill an adult chicken and try to eat it---I have put deer netting around the bottom of their chain link pen (10x10) up about 2' from the ground....leave it loose around the bottom. They get caught in it the little 1/2" squares. It is a big help for this area. There are videos on doing this.
    Love watching your videos when I get a minute. Thanks for all your help, Pres. Good job. Jesus bless.

    I swear its a new drama everyday over here with my chickens. Someone gets stuck in a bush. Someone gets stuck in a tree. Someones sick. Some stop eating, some sitting on nonexistenting eggs. Some(a lot of em) fighting each other. There's another rooster on the side of the road that I just CAN'T seem to ride by. I have to keep each of my flocks separate because I've got so many roosters at this point. If anyone knows where I can sell some roosters I'm all for it because my poor hens are stressed out.

I have had only rats that were a nuisance. Poison was not a option. I have four security cameras so I can tell where they are. I installed a grandpa’s feeder and no food was ever left in the run. In about 2 months I caught 25 in a small live trap from Amazon. I rehomed them to a area where there were no homes. That has been two weeks ago and I have not saw any recently. I hope this helps your viewers. I order two traps. They were well worth the price.

      I started to notice roaches last year, also mosquitoes were horrendous! Being in central Florida I know bugs are always a thing but since Ive been doing the following I have hardly any problems with pests! I clean out my coop and nesting boxes (entirely) once every 3 months. After sweeping everything out I spray the entire coop and nest boxes with a spray I made myself. *In a spray bottle I put an entire bottle of rubbing alcohol, 10 drops lavender, 10 drops lemon grass and 10 drops rosemary and top off the bottle with water.* Shake and then spray everything (roost bars, nest boxes, walls, etc.). Let it dry thoroughly and refill the coop floor with PDZ and sand and the nest boxes with hay. Now, it's very rare do I see a roach and mosquito are much more reduced... Plus everything smells fresh and clean.
      Edit: I thought you said coop... I re-read and realized you said run! I'm sorry I don't have remedy for that. Did you find anything by now that's helped?

    Can you tell me where I can find Verm-X? It looks like it’s made in the UK, and has insane shipping cost online. I checked my local grange, but they didn’t have it. Thanks for all your wonderful advice!

      😔 Thats the one problem with Verm-X, it’s expensive because of the shipping cost. I should have mentioned that in the video. I’m on the lookout for something comparable here in the US but just haven’t found it yet. Stay tuned! Sorry, should have mentioned the price/shipping issue in the video. ❤️

    Get rid of the rodents first and you will have fewer predators coming around for a rodent snack. Your feeders are rat buffets. The best feeder on the market is the ratproof chicken feeder, U.S. made in Oklahoma City on some models, other models are made in their shop in the Philippines. If you google ratproof chicken feeder you will find a ton of reviews on the feeder. It is quite distinctive, inward swinging door, the door has adjustable springs to pre load the door to prevent rats, even squirrels from pushing the door open. It has a narrow and distant treadle to prevent rodents ganging up on the treadle. No need to leave it open for training like the poorer designed and Chinese made competitors. Good content here, just missing the most crucial part.

    • @canyondiva493
      @canyondiva493 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, I used one for years until the rats figured out they could sit on the treadle arms and get up to the door. They had the audacity to stare at me from inside the rat proof feeder. They tunneled almost ten feet under a cement paver patio to come up through the dirt floor of my hen house. After using a lot of steel and copper mesh, construction foam, etc., we finally covered the entire floor with 1/4” welded wire and topped that with 1” thick pavers. All other openings larger than a nickel were sealed. Finally! No more rats in the hen house. It smells good again, girls are happy, I’m happy and the feed lasts a whole lot longer.

    • @timsnow2204
      @timsnow2204 3 месяца назад

      @@canyondiva493 You didn't have the spring tension set strong enough or the spring was missing. The treadle arms are 1/8" wide, I doubt that a rat could balance on them, and if they did without the leverage that comes from being far out on the treadle step it would be impossible for their weight to operate the door mechanism.

    • @canyondiva493
      @canyondiva493 3 месяца назад

      @@timsnow2204 yes they can balance on the arms and yes the spring tension was fine. These are fairly large rats; not cat sized but bigger than the average squirrel. You’d be amazed where they manage to balance themselves. I also enlisted the aid of a pest control guy and one of them managed to break one of his traps which he said he’d never seen happen before. I think what irks me the most is that this area is filled with oak trees, pecan trees, wild blackberries, etc., and with all that natural food they were compelled to try and get my chicken feed. No more! We’re winning the war!

    My biggest problem is the rats I have traps for all the other predators. My neighbor let their Rats go in my yard and didn’t tell me until a couple of months later. So they multiplied. I thought I got rid of all of them but I was wrong. Yes I made the biggest mistake by getting rid of all the skunks and Raccoons. Don’t do it she is speaking the truth it disrupts the environment and you get rats.

    So I've always wondered this.. Why do people get mad when youtubers get sponsored? If it's because they make more money then what's the big deal? That's the point right in making videos in the first place? I understand some do it just out of love but most nowadays do it hoping to become the next big viral RUclipsr. I want everyone to make money so it doesn't bother me if they're sponsored or not.

      They can stay on concrete. :-) It's always best for them to have some outside time, though. And just remember that overtime they will really cause some wear to the walls in your garage.
