I enjoy the small things, like when they went into pirouettes I saw the one guy sporting a secret smile in a turn. These small signs that they really enjoy this is what fascinates me beyong everything else.
They do and gymnast to which you might want to consider the toll in the pain and the suffering that they go through with their feet which nobody talks about or the arthritis are the back compression or the bad news or the hip replacement surgery that happens with some of them you need to understand that these people are damaging their bodies for perfectionism and looking good on a stage and are addicted to the sadomasochism of it whether they admit it or not
+Morgan Taylor in the early stages of ballet a lot of its development happened in france and Italy. most of the terms are in french. Being trained you learn these terms like the back of your hand. most of the combinations show up in every class just in different order. This is why its so easy for dancers to grasp the combo so fast.
Keyona Hence I heard of a girl who started at 17 and discovered she was really good at it. Last I heard she was taking a summer intensive with a fantastic school in Pennsylvania. You never know😄
Same here. I saw on interent that gymnasts should start from 4. I started on 12 and these 4 years i have improved so much i keep up with the advanced..same goes for a boy who is a friend of mine
She actually could. If you happen to have all the things a ballerina should have. Like flexibility(which you can work on), coordination, the right attitude, the body, strength, picking up combination fast etc. Luckily most of the things you can work on. I know someone that started at 18 and is now studying at the national ballet... She is even better than the ballerina's that started young. So it's truly never to late. As long as you got passion and you work hard. Just hurry a bit haha.
This is so lovely! To be able to be a fly on the wall in the Royal Ballet is such a dream, and Yuhui is such an exquisite dancer, pure inspiration to watch her pirouettes :))
+MsBabbi I really wish Yuhui could be promoted to Principal. I agree she is an exquisite dancer, so graceful and light, but I do think she has 'star quality', too. Perhaps the RB doesn't see that extra charisma or whatever in her? Too timid maybe? There obviously are a lot of components necessary to make a great Principal, but I really think she's got whatever it is (although I'm just a ballet fan, not the Director, of course!). Ah well, at least she gets some good solos.
+MsBabbi I love watching Yuhui, she is so obviously loving what she does. I watch You Tube excerpts of her dancing White Swan, Black Swan with Korea National Ballet from 2010, it's adorable. This I do on the treadmill at the gym btw.
+Lisa S Yuhui does dance principle roles in major Ballets. Alice (Alice in Wonderland) Cinderella, Princess Aurora (The Sleeping Beauty), Nikiya and Gamzatti (La Bayadère), Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker), Lise (La Fille mal gardée) www.roh.org.uk/people/yuhui-choe. When Natalia Osipova was injured before Sleeping Beauty a couple of years ago Yuhui stood in so ended up dancing Aurora in five shows.
THE CORRECTIONS ARE PHENOMENAL!! So detailed!! "Fingers,Claire!" I cannot believe the attention to every aspect of these people's bodies it's incredible
Pretty much everything is brilliant about this ballet videoclip: the pianist is Brilliant; the dancers are all so elegant, graceful and flexible, and the teacher has a perfect balance of firmness and gentleness/kindness in her
As a dancer myself sometimes I don't always watch the ballet whenever I go to competitions even though I do it myself. But with this I've watched this exact rehearsal three times now... The students, teacher and music is just so entertaining! All the dancers have beautiful technique (obviously haha) and make you want to watch them:) the stamina is unreal here- I'd be dying at the back from just half of this haha! Thank you for making ballet entertaining!xx
The guy with the green and red trousers was amazing! So talented Also the girl with the long sleeved green leotard - turns to die for! Finally the girl with the blue and white leotard with dark blue shorts was also very amazing!
Hi Erin, in case you'd like to know their names those dancers are Steven McRae, Fumi Kaneko and Yasmine Naghdi: www.roh.org.uk/people/steven-mcrae www.roh.org.uk/people/fumi-kaneko www.roh.org.uk/people/yasmine-naghdi
This has rapidly become one of my favorite videos to watch, and in large part due to the music (!) teaching, and Steven McRae's brilliant execution of a baterrie combination close to the end. His speed and precision are extraordinary!
I like how each dancer is in a way personalizing each exercise but doing different arms, some of course are the same but when they aren’t specifically told on what to do with their arms, it’s really interesting on how they choose which arms to do, based on what they think suits best or feels most natural. Truly lovely
I hope that the next World Ballet Day includes the Barre section of the beginning. It's just as fascinating to watch as the second half, and it's a true shame it was left out.
The dancer with the red leotard on 6:41 and shorts! I loved to see her, it was great to see someone with my body type on a ROH ballet class 🥺 she doesn’t have thin muscular legs like other ballet dancers but she had big muscular ones and broad shoulders AND SHE KILLED IT ON CENTER! It feels good to see someone like me!
after have watched a lot of company's videos from everywhere i think the RoyalOperaHouse is ne of the best , with the most beauty, clean , soft tecnique....so now i know where i'm going to dance someday
The three girls in the line on the left dancing together are just stunning to watch! Even though it's just class work, they still look like they're performing together. LOVELY! 28:27
You know, watching this I really regret dropping from ballet when I was a teen. Now at 30 it’s too late. I never wanted to dance professionally but I had such a blast doing it. I have to confess I am a bit envious of those guys.
Just as a sort of interesting point - many years ago, I was working for Epsom Coaches and on quite a few occasions I had the pleasure of picking up the students and teachers from White Lodge and take them wherever - on one occasion I was about 15 minutes late and as I drove in one very serious looking lady told me off in front of the waiting dancers, about 13 years of age, and I felt like a very naughty schoolboy!! Talk about "put in my place". Anyway, she gave me a cup of tea when I got them all safely back! I appreciate all the hard work and pain these dancers endure to achieve their goal.
i admire their memory. the lady speaks so much so quickly and everyone is all like "ok, lady. got it, lady". i'd stand there gawking and asking her to repeat it at least 10 more times before there was any chance for me to remember it. Also the read headed guy in colourful pants seems really graceful. i have no idea if he really is that great but he seems to be.
They are simply so beautiful I want to cry. This is what inspires me to keep trying to get onto pointe. Their different attire is quick confusing, I thought that a simple dress code was required.
I really appreciate things like this being posted! Besides just getting to watch these beautiful dancers, its also I nice off day follow along : ) BTW the woman in the green and black is an AMAZING turner!
So, so wonderful!!! Fantastic dancers, wonderful combinations!!!! My question is; What on earth is there not to "like"?????? I just do not understand why ANYONE could click on the thumbs down button!
Natural ability and good bones/flexibility/ and body ratios ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT than an eternity of practice. I was in ballet....and I can vouch for this fact. It's a rare ballet dancer or student, who can attain the level of a world class dancer despite all the practice in the world!!!!
it's truly amazing how they pick up the combination so fast, I've been dancing for 9 years and I still need my teacher to go over the combo like 3 times😂
i'm a japanese girl going ballet class after school. I'm proud of Akane and Fumi very much because they perform very nice, cool, elegant, and beautiful... i wanna perform like them. They gave me a dream!
+2kooldancin Brown? You mean Asian? I've never really heard anybody call an Asian person 'brown', but maybe it is okay, also, since you did not mean it in a bad way, clearly, but still. I guess if we can use 'white' and 'black', 'brown' is no different? Hmmm.
+Ovaer - Call of Duty actually, the dancer I was referring to, Francesca Hayward, IS brown. She's biracial. Black and white. But there are brown Asian people too. Many Filipino and Thai people have beautiful brown skin. There's absolutely nothing wrong with brown skin :)
This was very helpful. I think sometimes as a young ballerina you can be very hard on yourself if you have bad class, so it is really nice to see even the pros have it hard in class sometimes. Thank you +Royal Opera House :)
WOW love how this teacher shouts the steps around 36:37, it's so rhythmic like it doesn't sound like a shout for dancing ballet! I swear none of Japanese ballet teachers shout like her!! LOVE her "ah ballonee ah ballonee ah ballonee...." hahaha, it reminds me of "wannabe" by Spicegirls somehow... lol.
Have been watching a lot of Russian videos of classes and the dancers are amazing but I must say I enjoyed hearing the laughter and seeing the smiles in this class. Also nice to see less identikit body types in this company compared to others. Not knowledgeable enough to know how much a 'lighter' approach affects technique, etc. but it was a bit of a relief watching this after the other stuff! Remember watching the RB corps rehearsal for 'La Bayadere' which was equally enjoyable and the teacher was so encouraging to all the dancers.
I love seeing pros doing a class and looking at them and seeing them as students, and think about my classes, makes me feel less bad about myself. Mayge one day ill be as good.
I kept trying to look for like 5 different people loll,, this was really cool watching this. Lol when the commentators (or whatever they're called) said everyone was trying to show off, it really cracked me up but they were all so beautiful and obviously so talented.
Hey ROH! You and Grant should work together to release an album of ballet class music. Everyone here loves it! Ask the dancers and teachers what their fav improvisations are. ;)
These ballerinas make their dances look like walks in the park! Their arches are sooooo pleasing to look at, and they're so graceful!
But inside they are actually dying
That's the magic. Ballet is a magical art 😁
I enjoy the small things, like when they went into pirouettes I saw the one guy sporting a secret smile in a turn. These small signs that they really enjoy this is what fascinates me beyong everything else.
Miri honestly, if youre a ballet dancer but you dont enjoy piruettes, youre doing it wrong :D
@@agostonbarany9668 yeah if I do a mistake I usually smile not because I'm happy doing it but because I'm embarrassed
Miri can I have a timestamp pls?
Is that yeontan?
Miri timestamp please?
Steven McRae is who catches my eye every time. He truly is such an amazing artist and a thrill to watch him dance! :) (The ginger-haired one)
+Erszi Dombi Hansen he really is amazing and so down to earth
+Erszi Dombi Hansen i agree
Erszi Dombi Hansen he looks like James whiteside
SAME
HA! True - when he's up my eyes gravitate to him... he's so 'extra' (dramatic) in his dancing, but I love it. Powerful and beautiful.
THEY COULD ALL BE MODELS. Dancers seriously have the best bodies.
They do and gymnast to which you might want to consider the toll in the pain and the suffering that they go through with their feet which nobody talks about or the arthritis are the back compression or the bad news or the hip replacement surgery that happens with some of them you need to understand that these people are damaging their bodies for perfectionism and looking good on a stage and are addicted to the sadomasochism of it whether they admit it or not

me too. I started watching, then I take classes ... Don't wait another life !
I like the teacher a LOT. She seems sweet but firm.
I agree, she's got the perfect balance of firm and sweet/encouraging which I think is v important
