    *SLIGHT RULES CLARIFICATION + VARIANT IDEA:* In Big Shot during setup, I made a slight goof: When you are placing all the groups of 4 cubes, *each group must have at least 2 different colors.* I accidentally had 1 group of 4 yellow cubes, which is not allowed per the rules. But it would make an exciting auction, that's for sure! _Anyway_ this got me thinking of a *fun variant to try:* What if you made 4 groups like that during setup, one for each player color? i.e. Set up 1 group of 4 yellows, 1 group of 4 reds, 1 group of 4 blues, and 1 group of 4 browns. You could place them equidistant from each other, and then randomize the rest of the groups. That way, each player would be guaranteed 1 auction of all 4 cubes in their color, but you wouldn't know _when_ it would happen. It might be too swingy & random from that D6 roll, but it still might be fun to try! The game is short enough that you could definitely try out some variants. If you have any other variant ideas, post them below!

    You continue to kill me with the games you cover. I'm a game designer and subscribe to dozens of review channels. Yours is absolutely my favorite. In fact, when you release a new video I have to wait till the end of the day to watch because I know the mechanisms featured are going to inspire and distract me for the rest of the work day. This video in particular was super helpful, as I've been searching for this new version of Big Shot for awhile. Big Shot on the Playte ebay page doesn't come up in search engines here in the US, so I haven't been able to track it down until now. Can't wait for it to arrive. I already picked up Kreta after watching your review. This new Playte version looks cool, but I'm happy with the old school one. Now you just have to help me track down the OG version of Intrige you covered, that's a tough one! Thanks again for the work you put into these videos. You do a great job of explaining games, it really clicks with my brain.

      Thanks so much for the kind words! I really appreciate your comment; it inspires me to keep making videos. I definitely analyze games from a design perspective more than anything, so I’m glad that clicks with you. I have no clue where to begin on designing my own game, so I admire people who can design games because my brain doesn’t work that way 😅 I know what I like and dislike, though!
      I’m so happy my channel is inspiring to you, and that’s awesome you’re going to get Big Shot! It’s so simple & awesome! Yeah, if you have Kreta, you won’t really need Sardegna also unless you want to free up some shelf space 😅
      Thanks again for the awesome comment 😊

      @@undiscovered_games Quick followup... Got my copy of Big Shot last week from Playte's eBay store (really fast, like you said) and played it last night with my group. Loved it. Very simple to learn & teach, and man do the decisions get crunchy at the end! Looking forward to playing again and not overbidding (final score was in the red). So happy you enjoyed Big Shot UDG!! And THANK YOU SO MUCH for the shoutout and the link to my video!! You ROCK! 👏😺 Totally agree Playte have been really bringing back some awesome old cult classics! Really love their direction as well!
    The castles and pawns were my favorite too! Classic Alex Randolf mechanic, I love it! The cancelation part. It's in other games too like the game, What the Heck, the card game. Definitely best at 4, I'd only play it with that player count for sure, glad you went with 4 first! Awesome explanation of Big Shot!

    After learning about Kreta from one of your earlier videos, I was so excited to see this reprint coming! At first I was a little disappointed that they changed the art, because I do prefer the look of the original. However, I had no idea that it comes in this very travel friendly size. That is a huge plus, especially when space is at a premium these days. And, I'm always looking for small box games I can easily throw in a backpack. It is super cool how the box transforms into the board. Thanks for sharing!

    • @undiscovered_games
      @undiscovered_games  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment as always! Yes I'd agree the artwork is probably better in Kreta; however, I think I prefer the wooden bits in Sardegna. They really improved the look of the ships, priests, and forts! Plus, I really like the color choices in Sardegna. The compact size is probably its biggest selling point, like you said. Kreta is a pretty big box. Playte managed to fit that big game into a tiny box without sacrificing the gameplay. I was shocked when I got it in the mail! I was worried at first about the board laying flat, and about the game being too fiddly because of the smaller pieces. But it really works great! I haven't had any issues with those things at all. Hope you get to check it out soon! It's such an awesome game.

      Thank you! When I posted my unboxing reel on Instagram, some people were asking about how flat the game board stayed, so I wanted to make sure I highlighted that in the video. When I first opened the game, I was a bit concerned about all the folds, but the folds bend both ways, and the magnets inside really add some nice weight to help keep it flat. It's a great production!!

    I have been trying to find a copy of Big Shot for five years, even after never playing it! After I received Sardegna, I checked out Playte's eBay and saw they remade Big Shot and it was an auto-buy for me.
    FYI - I'm sure it was for set-up's sake, but you showed a set of 4 yellow cubes up for auction. I think the rules say you have to have at least two different colors of cubes...although I love what kind of auction that would produce!

    • @undiscovered_games
      @undiscovered_games  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the comment! Good eyes! I completely overlooked that in the setup for the video, but yes, you are correct. The rules state you must have at least 2 cube colors per group. Now you got me brainstorming a fun variant to try: What if there were 4 separate groups like that? Like have 1 group of 4 yellows, 1 group of 4 reds, etc. Place them equal distance apart during setup, then randomize the rest. That would create a neat little variant to try: each player would definitely get to have 1 auction of entirely their color, but you wouldn't know when it would happen! It would probably be way too dependent on that D6 roll, but it might be fun to try. The game is so quick and simple, it is perfect to try out some variants like that. I'll have to check BGG for some other ideas too! Thanks again for the comment!

      Yeah, international shipping costs are never fun 😩 I can’t speak for the company, but it probably depends on where you’re located. I know their company is in Korea, so that probably sounds about right if you’re shipping to USA. The way I see it, pay $150+ for a used copy of Kreta, or get a new copy of Sardegna for $50-60 after shipping. Another idea is to talk to your local game store; they might be able to get a copy in stock. Also, I do believe Playte has a bundle deal on one of their eBay listings where you can choose 3 games and pay 1 shipping cost. Just some ideas! Thanks for watching!

    Korea is interesting regarding Board Games especially when you take a Look at the Recent developements in Marketing and rather complex Game creations or Unique Stories like Lee Sedol the Go-Grandmaster who lost against Alpha Go is a Board Game Designer now. Or Tom Vasel who was active in Korea for many years or Vincent Dutrait one the Best Illustrators Ever who lives there and and and … The Playte idea is Just Perfect for Korea as they love Details and Perfection in Their Designs. So why Not Proving this competence With good Games That are probably pretty Cheap in terms of license Acquisition. Thanks a lot for this hint :-)

What they are aiming for - I guess - is extending „hallyu“ (the Korean Wave) towards all Kinds of cultural Phenomena Just because they cannot Afford missing any upcoming hype. It‘s Kind of a Self-fullfilling prophecy. But I don’t Mind as Long as we Receive well-made Board Games (or optimized Remakes) our of That spell:-)

      I haven’t played Big Shot at 2p yet, so I cannot say for sure. However, Big Shot feels like a game that is meant for 3-4p. Sardegna works somewhat well at 2p, but I much prefer it with 3-4p. It definitely feels like it’s designed for the max player count. Still, for an area majority game I would play it at 2p if someone wanted to. I’ve played it twice at 2p and it was enjoyable, just not nearly as tense.

    • @undiscovered_games
      @undiscovered_games  7 дней назад +1

      I have not yet played with 2p, and based on my experiences, I don't really have much desire to try it with 2p. I just don't think there would be enough interesting interaction. I could be wrong, but it seems that the game benefits from the multiple colors in the auctions and weighing when to help yourself vs. hurt your opponents. It seems like a 2p game would be very linear and uninteresting, but I could certainly be wrong! I did get to play 1 time at 3 players and it worked great! I still think it shines at 4p, but 3p will not disappoint! There's still enough push and pull between all 3 players, and you still have that multi-directional tension. I hope that helps somewhat! Thanks for watching!
