I broke my Aeropex model while in my pocket, so I was forced to upgrade and I got the Openrun Pro. I did notice a difference in sound quality, I mainly listen to podcasts while working(I'm a gardener/carpenter) and the improvements I've noticed are less distortions at higher volumes, the Aeropex felt like there were 2 blow flies on my ears, the Openrun pro will still distort at higher volumes but not as bad as the Aeropex. But the volume does not appear to go any higher. I ride my bike to and from work, in heavy loud traffic I struggle to hear the words of the podcast when the traffic is loud. I do notice a marginally better sound quality. Also the headphones feel more comfortable. I would wear both headphones all day and the Openrun Pro are definitely more comfortable long term. In summary I would not upgrade if I had the Aeropex, but if I was buying for the first time I would buy the Openrun Pro.

You could use the earplugs but that’s probably not a good idea in traffic. My reason to use them are. When I do long run i don’t feel like water collecting in my ear. And when I run alongside the roads I can hear the traffic coming

thank you .... I noticed I can hear better in loud environments if I cup my palms over my ears. So if wonder if on a bike ride, a head band to press them Closer in.. may help the audio??

These headphones are terrible, the aeropex was so much louder. I can barely hear these in a gym on max volume. What the hell was the added £30-40 for?? The ancient sound has to be dead quiet for me to hear anything. Poor.poor.poor. do not buy this pricy product!
The problem is aeropex aren't stocking any more, so I have to go with regular wireless.

Thanks! I wouldn't purchase from this company before or after the rebrand. If you put any pressure at all on the headphones, the part that goes around your ear snaps loose and thus stops coming in direct contact with the temple areas of your skull. That is why a lot of people are complaining that they aren't loud. Without full contact, there won't be as much bone conduction happening. And these headphones have been built with that area that provides full contact to have zero rigidity. So, one bend and the plastic reinforcement snaps. When this occurs, the headphones still work, however, the bone conduction part no longer sits tightly on your temples and the volume and comfort decreases a tremendous amount.
I will be purchasing from a different brand to see if this is any different. Besides, the other brands don't seem to charge more than $40-$60 LOL.

Another solid review. Thanks boys! I have pretty much all the high end noise canceling headphones release from the past few years so I'm 'shocked' to say that the open run pros are on my end 90% of the time. Great for being at work and still hearing my supervisor yell at me. Great for running errands and hearing people behind me tell me to hurry up. Great for just hanging around the house. They are so comfortable that I literally forget I'm wearing them and it's a pleasant surprise when I answer a call and boom....they're in my ears. I highly recommended them. Thanks again for always putting out great content. Namaste.

I can see that the noise cancelling would be important in that usage. Do you then wear them on your head only 10% of the time? Thanks for the tips.

I can see why my wife has so much trouble hearing me when I’m taking her calls when I’m on a ride; I think I may get the Pros (keeping my OpenMove as a backup) and surprise her some day.

Thanks, I bought a Shokz OpenRun (not the pro) last month. I used them to listen to podcasts at home so I can hear my wife yelling at me and I can easily stop the podcast unlike in earbuds where I'm tapping on my ear to make them stop or other headphones trying to find the pause button.
For me, the OpenRun makes listening to podcasts manageable and more sociable as you are not isolated in the same way as other listening devices.
So far so good, thanks again for the video :)

One thing I like about using bone conduction headphones is the ability to use an earplugs due to the nature of my work (I use pneumatic tools). Earplugs actually makes the sound of these devices pop. In comparison, in-ear earphones with noise cancelling features just can't compete with earplugs when it comes to muffling ear-piercing sound of compressed air. You do, however, get the full sound quality. However, battery life on in-ear isn't as good as bone conduction headphones, which last a full days work. (5-6hrs vs 9-10hrs).
I might take a look at SHOKZ product for it's dual mic feature. The bone conduction headphone I have is quite good for listening to podcast and occasional music but not so great for making phone calls. Thanks for the somewhat in-depth review.

Great review, I never had the open run, but I had the aeropex and open run pro. My bag was stolen with my aeropex and so I upgraded to the open run pro. I used/use both daily for a long time in the office, and on my bike commute.
Some things that were a big upgrade for me. I
    - have my headset paired with many many devices. The app makes managing the multipoint significantly easier if you have more than 2 devices.
-The old model would continuously beep every few seconds if you went out of rage of one device. Like say you got a phone call, and work in a cube farm, and so you walk away from your desk. With the old one I would have to turn it off and back on to silence this alert. The new model beeps 1, maybe 2 times, and then does not.
-You didn't mention the experience with ear plugs in. If you are looking for isolation and better sound quality, try them with a pair of foam ear plugs. It is a game changer, and now you can do things like mow the lawn and actually hear something. For me most of the time, the fact that it doesn't block all other sound is a feature, when I'm in the office, someone can approach me, and I hear them start talking; and when I'm commuting by bike. Hearing my surroundings and missing something in a podcast is also good.
-For sleeping or laying down, you can rotate the back higher up on your head so that it doesn't interfere with the pillow, or what I will often to is flip them around so that the loop is in front of me. In this position, the mics don't really work, but if you are just watching some Netflix, or listening to music before bed, it works great.

I still prefer Aeropex. Based on this video, aeropex has clearer sound quality whereas OpenRun Pro has more bass. In my opinion, bass works best with traditional in-ear speaker headset. More importantly, Aeropex has better IP rating. Either way, both products are perfect. Great review guys!

    • @sharpmerciful787
      @sharpmerciful787 2 года назад +2

I've heard that the sound quality on the openrun pro are not that great. It may be okay for running, but not so sure about the sound quality. I would prefer something that has better sound quality like for music. And these are very expensive. I would have to get a case for it and a 2 pack charging cable replacement for it, all in all that cost a lot of money, so I don't even know if it's worth it.

I have both. I think the sound actually is as good as in-ear, but I'm not audiophile, for sure. But I have high end in-ear earbuds, and I find the open ear experience way more comfortable BECAUSE I hate the plugged ear feeling.
I haven't noticed a lot of leakage, just a little, and the OpenRun Pro leaks a little more than the Aeropex.

@@robyn_rainbow my Shokz have been through hell was back. They certainly hold up as well as any earbuds. They last a strong 8 hours and charge to 80% in about 10 minutes and fully in under half an hour. I wouldn't give them up for anything.
It's like you're hearing it in the room, except no one else can hear it. I don't know how else to describe it. It sounds...real.
I will say that outside noise can make them hard to hear because it's not muffled by the earbud. I can't use them in loud places because I can hear the outside noise clearly.

    Here is a different issue:
I have used Aftershokz Air or Trekz Titanium since 2016, primarily for audiobooks and apps, indoors and out, and for most of the day. I rotate 2 Airs and have an old Air as a back up in my vehicle. I was looking forward to using the new "mini" headset, to reduce "overhang." Unfortunately, there are problems with new Shokz OpenRun Mini that the Trekz Air and Titanium do/did not have--problems not corrected through customer service troubleshooting.
    1. The OpenRun Minis cut off the initial part of alerts and transmissions. This is very significant for short alerts. The TalkingTime or Talking Clock Apps will alert, “…forty-five pm,” instead of “The time is One forty-five pm.” Text message alerts will be the last part of the text tone tweet. Additionally, there is a stutter as if there is an electrical short. The Air and Titanium models do not have these problems.
    2. Dictating for text yields the wrong verbiage. Again, this is much worse with the OpenRun Mini, than when using Trekz Air and Titanium models to dictate; one must turn off the OpenRun Mini to dictate.
    3. After troubleshooting with the Shokz CS (hard reset-reboot), the first OpenRun Mini was returned and replaced. Unfortunately, the second OpenRun Mini had the same problems, and, likewise, the hard reset-reboots helped very little. So the replacement Bluetooth also had to be returned.
I don't understand why this occurs, why Shokz cannot correct this problem, and why the old designs is better than the new.

    • @mathias5171

Noticed the same thing about the alerts. Also, it really seems to me that the volume adjusts down once audio stops playing. Ridiculous for something that costs $180. Not impressed. And why give options like an EQ or language when you can put that money back into making it sound and function better?

Had the pro for a month now, honestly I keep it near the lowest setting, rarely going up to 50% when in stores.
And I am shocked by the battery life, longer by several hours then previous models

I got the open run pro. I had to get an EQ app that I paid for to drastically improve the sound quality and make it louder with the additional multiple choice EQ settings. Sux that the open run pro only have vocal and bass setting when the aeropex has multiple choice EQ settings. open run pro is a downgrade.

I do have a big head with 63 cm. I wear them as my edcs and more often than I want, I sleep with them still on because I forgot them.
I think thats a good sign for comfort, but I saw it when others used a shokz headset. This headsets comfort depends heavily on your Headsize.
I would say it should fit most for outdoor-/sport activities but laying on the bed or couch probably isn't an option for most. Mine fit me so well, I can use them in a motorcycle helmet.
    Thanks for reading, nice vid

I had Trakz titanium and now using aeropex.
trakz had a slightly better sound quality, comparing to arropex. But the construction and weight are dealbreakers.
You always could use ear plugs to block external sound and add some juicy bass

I have the open run, not open run Pro. Because open run actually has better water resistance than open run Pro which makes no sense but hey. I've been very pleased with the open runs. I'm not an audio file, but I can listen to music and it sounds good to me. The two things that I have noticed that our weaknesses are they don't get particularly loud, and the whole buzzing against your head thing. But you get used to that. At first I was slapping away and imaginary bugs on the side of my head. But then I got used to them.
I use them for pleasure and for work. I do ITwork, so having both hands free is super nice. Additionally I can put in hearing protection if I'm in a loud environment like a server room, and both I and the people I'm speaking with on the bridge can hear fine.
I've been very pleased with them

On my second pair of Shokz and what love most is not having to deal with earbuds that don't fit my ears or the chance of misplacing them since they are small. Also they are great that I can still hear what is going on around me if someone trying to speak with me.

I always thought they were uncomfortable to lay in bed too, until…
The last pair I bought, I read the sizing instructions, and measured myself. SURPRISE! It said that I could fit the “Junior” size, just a half inch smaller, but they fit closer, and are actually doable while laying down in bed, probably not all night, but I will use them for a guided meditation.

I had the same feeling, I have the AS800, and I bought the S810, and the treble is worse, the Shokz application solved the problem because there are two equalization modes: "audience with more bass" and "vocal for podcasts" it's much better now

my ears are too small for in ear buds to be comfortable, and due to a deep lobe parotid tumour, its become painful to wear on and over ear headphones. Been squinting at these as something I can wear without pain and I do like my bass. Wont be like my extra bass over ears, but its at least...something. Thanks for the breakdown and tests!
Mostly use headphones for biking, discord game calls, and general chill music listening.
