    Wow Frank this video hit the nail on the head. My exact projector and biggest problem. I avoided the "cheap" lamp but still received one without IR filtering. I encountered a variety of issues; over heat shutdowns, dust accumulation in general and stalling the blower fan, colour wheel segments falling out of the motor (epoxied them back in), loose light tunnel and eventually a burnt shape lens. This video and others you posted were super helpful, easy to follow along, and useful in my warranty claim with the supplier. Thanks !!

      Thank you Butch! I appreciate that. While I understand the cost seems high for a decent quality product, the cost of repair is far higher! So many projectors are now in the trash because of cheap replacement products. Its the one thing that really gets under my skin.
      Thanks again for watching and I really thank you for your comments!

    Venerable is right, My HD20 is still rocking HD content. "Jasper Electronics" lamps run to hot and ruin the projector housing. Oh and the Optoma GT1080 you fixed for me, what like 2 years ago is still running flawlessly. Knock on wood. Thanks again for valuable content & info!

    wow frank and hope to keep opening for the BenQ SU964 and even NEC projectors because i like those projectors because it has a startup beep and even its not far even turned it on with the remote it beeps louder so i can hear it better so i like NEC projectors with better startup and shutdown beep and i like it beeps for errors to tell me the projector had a malfunction so thats my opinion about the NEC projectors so what do you think frank

    Hi everyone,
    I've had an Optoma HD20 for about 12 years. It has never been repaired, bulb wasn't changed too. It was working mostly in ECO mode, lamp time counter shows 2.000 hours.
    Since a few days the projector's colors would begin flickering all variety of wonky, strange/unnatural colors, sometimes picture loks fade/green. When I switch off a beamer and let it cool down then when I start it again for a few minutes works fine but when it warms up problem persist again. I was suspecting bad/poor quality HDMI cable so changed it for different ones and changed also ports from HDMI1 to HDMI2 but without succes.
    So I've taken it down from the ceiling, opened it up, cleaned what I could, but still no improvements. Also a color wheel loks fine (no visible damges, rotates normally).
    What can cause this problem ? Bulb ?
    Should I renew only single bulb (OSRAM) or the whole package with bulb and this IR/UV len ?
    Any idea is welcome.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Год назад +1

      It's most likely the color wheel. You can't really tell the condition visually. Most hd20s are on color wheel two or three by now. Small chance it's the lamp as well but I doubt it. The oil bronze bushing wears out eventually and they can't spin evenly once it gets warm. Nothing but replacement will help.

      @@FixitFrank thanks for a tip. I see that there is some kind sensor (black rectangle with two dots) controlling color wheel and it's a bit dusted so I will clean it and check if it helps too.
      UPDATE: just cleaned this sensor (mounted on circuit of color wheel) and after 3 hours of working seems to be fine now (no colors flickering). I'm gonna observe but so far so good. Once more thx @FixitFrank for response :)

    I followed the directions to replace the lens and got a lamp from a reputable vendor, but now the projector turns itself off after about 3 minutes and 40 seconds due to overheating. I though the new lamp might be defective, but it's happening with the old lamp too. Did I put it back together incorrectly?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  6 месяцев назад

      Sounds like a fan is locked. If you had an old lamp explode, the blower fan near the lamp would be suspect. Not the normal looking fan, but the squirrel cage/turbine type fan. They can get glass inside and it will jam it right up. Also the wires can sometimes shift and block the fan from turning. That would be my direction for troubleshooting. Also, maybe when you plugged a fan in, it didn't quite seat. I've also done that.

    Hey man just foloowed you all along the way. replaced everything you did except the bulb. I did replace the lamp glass. put it back together and the image seems diffused super blurry around the edges. what did i do wrong?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Год назад

      sounds like you might have flipped one of those lenses after the light tunnel but before the shape lens. I'd check that. Also make sure the light tunnel is in place. but the lenses is my guess.

      Well I tried taking it apart 3 or 4 times now. Can’t find anything wrong myself. Thought it was the lens since I had it wrong but no. Only think is the mirror seems dulled across a good portion of it.
      I plugged my computer into it and it projects the screen without looking diffused. But it’s super foggy looking. Like you’re trying to shove the image through a wet shower door and the colors/brightness seem muted.

    Hey Frank. I have a OPTOMA HD20. I’ve read that I should be able to fit the image on a 91” screen from a distance of 10.5ft. I can’t get it to fit. I don’t think the zoom lens is working. I was wondering if you could help me. I just picked up another optoma projector on eBay and I can’t get that to fit the screen either. The projector is mounted on the ceiling. Thanks!

      How big is it getting? I ran the calculator on Projector central and it says 10' 6" should be 87" or so. Is that what you are getting?

    • @ricksantiago6716
      @ricksantiago6716 2 месяца назад

      @@FixitFrank i ran the calculations and it says minimum 10.2 for 91”. My distance is 10.5 from the lens to the screen. I originally had an optoma HD180 that fit the screen perfect but stopped working. I replaced it with the HD20 in hopes that I could get the same result. I just bought another optoma PRO260x thinking it would fit my screen as I read it on the manual and I can’t get that to fit either. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but it’s a little frustrating and I don’t want to keep wasting $$ purchasing projectors.

      The ceiling mount that I have fits with the optoma projectors which is why I’m trying to stick with that brand. I don’t want to have to drill holes in the ceiling if I were to go with another mount. Do you know an optoma projector that will give me the distance and display that I’m looking for?
