Since almost every light in the car is already LEDs, I wanted my backup lights to match, plus be brighter as well. This helps me being able to see, but also others seeing me!
This is a very easy install, with really one tool and a coding app like Carly listed below!

Important notice: DO NOT use a tool between the headlight and paint of the car. Its likely to get damaged really easy, that's why BMW states in their own repair manual (ISTA) that no tool should be used. I did that conversion myself around 3 month ago and the easiest way is to place your (bare) hand flat on the tail-lights surface and just pull towards yourself. That way its not possible to damage anything. Otherwise great video!
Great feedback and yes, you absolutely don't want to scratch the paint with a tool.
Congrats on the new M2C! I just picked one up myself.
They are amazing! Congrats!
@@BMWDIYGuy Yes I absolutely love the smaller form factor! I came from a F80 M3. Would love to meet up when covid is over, I’m in Seattle as well.
Great how to.
Thank you!
Just did this, so much brighter in yhe day time. Need to test at night. I got the lights out without needing a tool between light and the body. Just hands flat on it and some jiggling etc
Well done!
Thanks for the video - just a heads up, the pre-LCI version (N55) is slightly different, the bulb is the P21W type with the 10mm socket. Also, there is no direct access to the reverse bulb, so you need to open up the light covers to access the bulbs. Nevertheless a very useful video.
Awesome update thank you!
Can confirm no direct access
wow i cant believe its 2021 and the M2 Comp doesn't come with LED reverse lights. Looks like I gotta get myself some LED bulbs. Do you notice that the reverse camera is a bit slow to come on?
I have noticed some variation of camera startup but not determined why yet
Hi there! Great video - thanks for sharing. I see there are 2 different types of LEDs in the description. Which one fits the M2 Competition? I consider of following your example, it looks crazy good. Thank you in advance for coming back to me.
You just need to check which type of bulbs you have first, the plug or blade style. Happy to help!
@@BMWDIYGuy Thanks. I’ll have a look. Which one did you need and when was your M2C produced? I expect it depends on the production date.. Mine in September ‘18.
@@FonzNRG mine was the blade style if I remember correctly 8)
Hi , does the reverse camera's image get blurred or oversaturated because of the more powerfull led's ? Its the only potential issue keeping me back from doing this
@@kiefervanhessen4625 not at all.. this was a great upgrade
What bulb would I use for a rear indicator out on my 68 plate m2 comp?
realoem is a great place to look up part numbers.
Will the coding still work on the 2021 M2 since it’s DME Locked?
ABSOLUTELY yes.. so this is the difference between coding and tuning. Tuning is performance, engine, etc and yeah the DME is locked. Coding is literally changing parameters in the car info, and done with Carly (I have a video for that) or Bimmercode doesn't touch the DME. It updates values in the various car ECUs, so should work fine.
@@BMWDIYGuy awesome news! I would love super bright reverse lights. I’ll check out your other video now. Thanks for replying to me!!
@@jondeak Happy to help.. there are a TON of changes you can make to your car with Carly or Bimmercode, without any worry of a locked DME. Its nice to be able to customize some of the small behaviors of our cars.
Does the bulps fit on a f82 m4 ?
Probably, but absolutely confirm FIRST.. BMW changes bulb styles all the time.
What city do you live in? I’m in Newcastle. I have a 18 s3 and am looking at a m2c in the fall. Keep up the vids!
The M2C is even better than I thought I know and only getting started.. I am about 30min away from you!
Grants on the new car
Thank you!
