    I have been talking with more and more people who have damaged the inner LED board on install, just like I did.. five times. Once I got the 6th and final board, I wanted to protect the install and avoid any future issues. After speaking with an electrical engineer for advice, I sourced out the coating and redid the install.
    I wish I had known this on first install as I would have done this initially, but if you run into trouble here is how you can avoid making the same mistake.

    I used the thermal glue that came with it, now thinking about it if you use the 3M tape which will raise the board slightly and probably why you keep scrapping the resistors, every mm counts.

      Absolutely possible for sure.

    As a Designer of both mechanical components/systems and PCBs I feel this is a Mfg issue and should not be incumbent on the consumer to alleviate in any fashion. Ideally the PCB needs revised to move the fragile SMT resistor to a safer location, or at least they should add the conformal coating at the factory as a layer of mechanical protection (which BTW is not it's primary function in use)

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  Год назад

      Dont argue one bit.. no exposed resistors on the OEM, where this has one that is very vulnerable.

  • @davewallace9048
    @davewallace9048 Год назад +5

    Sounds like they should do that right from the factory. If it’s that easy to make that mistake, they should put the coating on!!

    So im having a similar problem with my g20 yellow drl lights, but for some reason, after I drive my car hard, the actual clip seems to pull the board off the actual module. Do you know why?

    What happens if one of the halos does not come on or is dimmed in light output ? I am looking at one 4 series with the iconic lights and on the left side one halo does not light up and the other shines really dimmed, just to note the car appears to have had a front collision because the front bumper was a little cracked nothing major though, and the bay of the engine seemed to be fine radiator and other metal parts were all good. Could a chipset replacement bring the shine back and light up the other halo also ? Thanks!

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  7 месяцев назад +1

      Lots going on there.. LEDs could be out or damaged. The halo light channel could also be damaged or broken so the light doesn't transmit. Definitely start there and see what you find.

    If you scrape off the resistor, is it going to fail right away, or very soon after?

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  Год назад

      They will fail immediately, and that side wont work properly at all. You will also get an error on the dash about the lights not working. The resistor is so light and frail, you wont even feel it come off.

    I do not like those anodized blue bolts/nuts in the engine bay. OEM Silver or black if you must change them. Cos those blue ones like cheap, like something a teenager would do to their car. This is BMW, not a 16yr old's old honda civic. No modern BMW engine bay is ever going to look that good. They aren't classic cars. Under the hood is a performance place. Not an aesthetic place. Sorry, they just look so cheesy and "try-hard". Please remove & replace them back to oem, or black even. Lol, i'm sorry.
