    Here in the UK, there’s a premium of up to £10k for a N55 M2 over an M240i, for my use I couldn’t justify an M2. Perhaps one day, but I added a torsen (quaife) LSD and widened the front and rear tracks with lower offset wheels and the car’s handling has changed quite a lot.
    It rolls much less and is far more stable both at high speeds and hard cornering. It also seems to rotate a lot more on the throttle and will get into that oversteer position with virtually no understeer to the point that I no longer feel the car needs lower control arms. Wider front track has also improved steering feel, weighting and feedback dramatically.
    I consider myself more of an enthusiast and the M2/M2 Comp is an aspirational car for me still but at this point neither of them will offer me anything my M240i comp can’t, they’ll just do it in a more aggressive and better looking package.
    If you’re willing to put some money into handling mods the M240i will deliver. It’s no M2 but I like it’s understated smooth character, it has a classic bmw personality all of its own while I feel the M2 range represents the very best of M. I do think however that if my car wasn’t a manual I’d feel too isolated from the driving experience, where’s the DCT keeps you connected. Otherwise you really can’t go wrong. Sorry for the essay, another great video SCT!

      I’ve just traded in my PFL RS3 for an OG M2. I toyed won’t getting an M140i and using the savings to get Quaife diff and sort out all the other small niggles. I test drove the M140i when they first came out but when I test drove the M2 on Friday I was sold straight away. Hopefully the factory LSD helps with out in the beautiful British weather lol.

    I really wanted an M2, but ended up getting an M240i xdrive. As someone that doesn’t track my car, the M240 was the more logical choice. Cheaper, more tuning potential with the B58, and a more comfortable all around daily driver. If I tracked my car or lived somewhere with no snow, I’d have gone with the M2. But, throw a tune and exhaust on the M240i and it’ll be just as nice as an M2 on most back roads.

    • @SimplyCarThings

      most definitely! I think you justified your purchase perfectly. Hope you're enjoying that M240!

      “Throw an exhaust and tune” won’t get you even close to an M2 on a back road. I know because I’ve tried also in a straight line the M2 is a bit faster better car for value is the 240i however and more daily driving

    I have a 240i. Handling leaves some to be desired but the b58 is great. It's my daily but I hit the canyons a few times a month with it. With just a JB4 + downpipe I basically walk away from my buddy's 5.0. Although I'd love to trade up to an f80 or m2c in the next 2 years.

    • @SimplyCarThings

    • @ItzAntonTV
      @ItzAntonTV 3 года назад +1

      Jb4 is a big mistake for the b58. Mhd Really…and I mean really! Brings out the performance with a catless downpipe, mhd stage 2 you’ll be pushing 490 sub 500hp numbers and an xhp stage 3 transmission tune will help your shifts be more aggressive in sports plus and for the shifting time to be much shorter. Some upgrades you should definitely consider as you are wasting your b58 on a shitty module!

    When looking to buy an M240i in 2017, it was almost impossible to find one with a manual sitting on a dealer's lot. However, the $10k more M2's almost all had the manual. However, at the time, dealers were adding an additional $10-15k premium on the M2, so I ended up with a M240i (a manual was finally found after about a month of searching). It has been a true joy to drive... About a year ago, stopped to test drive an M2 Comp and the engine was clearly a step above my M240i's, but little else about the car was so special to persuade me to trade in the M240i. That being said, the sport suspension on the M240i is wanting. It tends to loose traction on hard, bumpy road acceleration and that wasn't apparent when testing the M2 Comp, so the analysis that if you want to track the car, that might be reason enough to get the M2 (that, and the beefed up suspension, limited slip drive, and extra brakes; all unnecessary on the road)

    I just bought my 2020 m240i and loving it. Im now preparing for my mods. I chose m240i because its AWD, winter weather here in Canada are tough on winter. My first car was dodge challenger rt and its RWD, its not really good in winter😂, its going sideways. M2 was really cool, more power and look really cool RWD and more expensive. Im good with my am240i loved it.

    I have driven both extensively and I think that the OG M2 is easier to drive fast on a twisty road or track straight out of the box. In my experience, I have to work a lot harder in the M240i but the cornering speeds are actually pretty similar, if the M240i has good tires. Also, a tuned B58 could claw back any handling deficiencies on the straights, even if the N55 was tuned. Simply Car Things can attest to how fast I am in the M240i. A tuned M2 Competition is a different story.
