    Can't agree with this more out of the box nothing compares to an M2/M2C as an M-Performance vehicle, but the sheer price, affordability and modification list that can be done to a B58 is something to definitely be considered. As a platform I much prefer the B58 as I own an S58 vehicle, for everyday fun you just can't beat it. Awesome video and definitely be good to get you out in the Mini JCW (GoKart).

I test drove an M2 Competition and it's RAW! IF you track regularly ...GET it!! However on British roads, as an everyday driver the M240 is BETTER to live with... and faster! it IS VERY heavy however and gets a bit unruly after 8/10ths on a bumpy road ( This is where the M2 wins) but who drives 9/10th/10/10ths all the time!! Current car bought last week is M240i mid 2019 with only 24k on the clock - love the engine notes in Sport mode. BMW inspection on it two days ago, clean bill of health, new oil+filter, and new coolant, and its time to try it out a bit more now that i've baselined the essiential bits and know its all good 🙂 No substitute for a BMW M-lite or M car for handling IMO, unless you want a Caterham 7. But they are only really a track day car, defo not a daily drive.

I’ve had an an Elise, 986 911 C4S, 987.2 Boxster S Black Edition - PDK sport chrono PSE & PASM + DSC v1 and an E87 120d modified; sometimes you need 4 seats...

    Having owned a tuned M240 and moved to M2C, you’d have to spend a fortune on a 240 to get it close to a stock M2 and there’s nothing you can do to make it look as good. The M240 is a 218 with a big engine, fine if all you want is straight line speed but as a drivers car, the M2 wins every time.
    Any profit made on the M2 will be lost on the 240 because they don’t hold their value like an M2 (appreciate you may not lose much over the next 18 months with how the market is). Yes you can do plenty to an m240 but it’s a false economy. Parts aren’t much cheaper and can all be stripped and sold on either car. People can have various reasons for downgrading to the 240 from the M which is absolutely fine but it will always 100% be a downgrade although still a great car.

    The RWD powerful m140i is sadly wasted on me, i don't do track days, i don't do supermarket or fastfood carparks and ive moved to within walking distance of work, so whats it all about. Originally did consider and M2 but why.
    Simply facts for me are unless your going to use a car to its full potential from time to time its a expensive pointless car to own.
    I mean how many time do we actually use these cars to their full potential if not on track?
    We just mostly sit in traffic with the occasional blast on B roads or motorways.

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr Месяц назад

      i mean the sheer steering feel/rotation aspects of an elantra N for the $$$ makes it very hard to beat for most "sports" inclined buyers. But id also take a RWD m240i over an X-drive 12 out of 10 times as well. Plus id rather daily an elantra N than get a wrx then have to tune+BBK it to be "ideal" which costs more in comparision...while also having abyssmal MPG if not worse than a b58 in both a WRX or GR corolla. IJS theres so many "boxes" to check for something that would be a mandatory/vehicle vs something that was a weekend/secondary option IMO. Even then id take a GTI for the shifter/clutch feel from a pure daily/driving a manual standpoint all the sudden QOL at times superceeds "pure performance" aspects/figures/potential. Id say the same about bikes though as im not a rider...yet would consider a higher revving/low displacement option purely for enjoying the powerband/shifting of daily commuting the same way a short geared elantra N really nets the value of a daily driving experience even for a manual. VS a b48 230i....hitting boost at 1700-2300RPM and the speed limit XD at times MUCHMUCH less enjoyhable with x-drive mid corner than the majority of cars its priced among.

      M240i is not an M car true, but I'd say it's a better platform than the original M2 to build upon. It's a lot easier to squeeze good power out of this engine, and all the things you mention can be done. You can fit bigger wheels, an LSD (BMW make one for this car), get a stage 1/2 for the extra power and you're set. All that being said, M2comp is the dream hahah.

    Really honest personal opinion on two excellent cars, we all have our own customer value when buying and sometimes greatly differ on what value is, I own a 2019 m140i that has birds performance suspension package specifically designed for poor British roads, wonder how much power you can use in a m2 when on poor roads because the setup is more suited to smooth tracks, a bouncing rear end makes you ease off the power, thoughts Tim?

    If you never do any track driving, then an M car is overkill because you can’t ever drive it as it was meant to be driven. So at that point, driving an M car is really to show off to your friends. And unfortunately, too many people with more money than driving skills will buy an M car for the ‘show factor’. So they will baby the car, keep it clean and waxed, and never track it. So wait for those cars to hit the used car market, because these types of owners are always after the next popular car to show off.

    to me the M2 offers 6 spd manual which is no longer available for m240i(not an issue for me) more to purists....and a DCT to those "purists" that also desire better than the ZF8. Other than that the m240i/platform and B58 Still offers that "potential" tunability with stock turbo/internals/injection...or elsewhere. At least thats the way i look at it X-drive for ppl trying to lay down dragstrip/times..other than that RWD offers IMO limitless value/potential from a pure drivers perspective in regard to steering feel/input degree which makes it almost a mandatory option since i dont require snow/wet performance as a HUGE priority. In stock form im sure the M2 is great...but for tuning/mods the m240i is just such a viable/platform starting point for the price/power figures etc...w.o having to modify the transmission/drivetrain aspects. I figure the m'2s will be widely available in the used market day 1...compared to a slew of platforms...given its price point/access and those perspective owners having the purchasinig power/ability to uppgrade or like Tim...move to other avenues of ownership/power/potential. The b48 230i m/packaged options are already being seen for 10,000+ off MSRP in the secondhand market for cars 1-2 years old. To me just a striking value from a tuning/potential standpoint.

    Stage 2 M2 will walk away from stage 3 M240i even with diff, suspension upgrades etc round a track 😉 by the time you’ve spent all the money on the M240i your no better off & now have a car which depreciates in value much quicker.
    But if you want a better value car for drag/draggy B58 is the way to go

    • @TimWilliamsHD
      @TimWilliamsHD  2 года назад +4

      Totally disagree, i made crazy amount of money on the m2 allowing me to buy this m240i for cheap..m2 has m tax on all parts and engine isn’t really as reliable as the b58 hence why bmw used it again in new 240i and based the new m3/4 off the engine..bmw offer the m240i racing for competitions and btcc m135i racing so I’ll be looking to build something like that with a way cheaper car which is fun to build and not something that I think about constantly if I should sell and make money…the m240i might sell one day but I don’t drive it now thinking about the resell value cos it’s not a sought after car and as I mentioned it’s not about which is better or faster it’s about me getting something that makes sense for me. Be good to see back to back times with a stage 2 m2 and a m240i with £15k spent on it😆 that’s the price difference between mine sold for and how much the m240i cost 🤫 I for one am interested! 😂

      @@TimWilliamsHD Edit at the end: Mod for mod the B58 isn't as capable as the S55. The S55 has exceptional reliability. It's bullet proof. I think the record whp is over 1300 now. Another bit of news for you is that the S58 is heavily based off the S55 which I didn't realise either. The only advantage of the M240i is that it's cheap. Aside from that the M2 is better. B58 is still a great engine. Stage 1 M240i is a weapon still. I used to have the 440i. Biggest upgrade is a nice new set of Michelin PS4 tyres. 😀.

    IMO n55 is a great engine, very reliable, but it takes allot to get out of it. Yes the 240 is faster than a OG M2, especially in a straight line but it's not the better car. If your looking to do rolls and digs and all you care about is 0-60 and numbers (he read the brochure) by all means the B58 is for you.
    The M2 is a drivers car whether it's the OG or M2C, a 240 just can't do what a M2 does no matter what you do it. Handling alone justifies that, more in the M2C. The way these cars drive and respond are night and day, the 240 is practically the better daily but the M2 is the better car period.
