Had quite few installed in a commercial building I work in.....no more clogs and they flush the bowl clean, no matter how big the load is, or how long it was sitting unflushed. Very pleased with them.
Love my Flushmate. I'm only a homeowner, but have purchased enough spares to build three of these. Standard seat height and powerful flushes. I upgraded to Fernco FTS-3 permanent(and reusable) seal and stainless floor mounting hardware with stainless wingnuts and bolts for the tank. Due to water here, every few years I pull the tank, pull the basin and plug the outlet then fill with muratic acid outside for a few hours. Like a new toilet after re-installation.
Some of those units are recalled by sloan due to the tanks failing. Sloan will send you a whole tank free of charge if it is is the age range. Just call the 800 nukber on the tank and give them the serial number. Sloan has been very good to deal with.
Yes, there is a recall on Series 503 Flushmate III Pressure Assist flushing systems manufactured from October 1997 to February 2008. Definitely call Sloan to confirm. There have been reports of these rupturing.
Use a bucket to flush in the meantime. This is what boggles my mind w/ these companies. How one has to make due while the company sorts out part replacements.
I had one that leaked a little. I called Sloan and they confirmed mine was in the recalled batch and FedExed me a brand new tank and the fancy wrench to install it for free. You can't ask for much more than that.
I musta watched 100 of your videos over the past week. You remind me of watching This Old House. Old school know how, grit and determination. So refreshing. And we have the same views. Thanks for sharing the old school knowledge. Sometimes the hard way is the best way.
I have a customer in Dennisport that has 4 of these. Never had trouble as I winterize the four baths, two kitchens, 2 washing machines, 2 dishwashers. Dread the day that I will have to deal with them. Thanks for this video
I love my two flush mate toilets. In the early 90’s when the government mandated low flow toilets it was the only one that didn’t need two to three flushes to clear the bowl. My sister had an American Standard with a porcelain trap and that still needed two or more flushes.
Totally-agree, Steve, about not loving these Flushmate toilets. Very happy with our Toto Drakes (and other Totos), which have a simple but very-effective trapway design that reliably-evacuates the bowl every time, with zero drama. It almost seems like it shouldn't flush so well given how quiet it is.
We used them on drain lines that didn't have enough fall in concrete. Nothing but problems. Probably had 20 in one building . Also when the energy level on commode were tightened. All brands where junk then . Now it's different lots of good ones . Those commode there very expensive .
I just bought the pressure flush toilets, I like hearing the power Flush, for most men we need the power in the flush from our body waste. Do you know how long one can flush before needing repair? It must be long because hotels seem to have them all over.
Good job Steve, those power flush are loud, I don't think Miss Molly wants one, she gave you the no look, I think she feels safer taking a fritz outside.
I have a friend in the US that is retired, says he makes $1000 a week fixing toilets that run, resetting breakers, replacing blown fuses… Seems this generation were never taught to fix simple household things!
I have 3 of them replaced 5 cartridges and 3 tanks split at the seam junk plastic tanks tried jb weld will not worl on this plastic tank going back to old standard
Just Lossen the clips holding the rod and twist them out of the way, By Removing them You can drop them in the tank Damm near impossible to get them out, Been There
power assisted is the best toilet. got this when the government decided to restrict the flushing capacity. have used it for over 30 years. They are the best.
I've changed just the cartridge several times in the past only to have them fail within 6 months.....I just change the whole pressure vessel now. It's more costly, but I'm too busy to be going back to redo work.
- Haha... I have two of the comfort height Sloan Flushmate toilets and they work pissah! I've never had one get clogged or, failed to completely flush in the 5 years I've had them....
Any idea why it would leak at the black tank in the lower front at that black rubber flapper looking thing? With each flush it sprays water from the rubber flap into the porcelain tank. Thanks for any help.
Mine is leaking around the cartridge. Is it likely that the cartridge is bad? Or maybe just out of adjustment? Thanks for video! Youre right; these things are too loud. lol But they never clogg, so its a comprimise.
I'm surprised that they don't put computer chips and motors in toilets and make them with digital displays, to break down all the time and require expensive repairs.
I was sitting on one when the tank actually exploded and blew the porcelain lid off the top, literally scared the crap out of me and sprayed water everywhere.
I had old PF/2 pressure assist toilets. it was leaking and can't get parts for it any more. the PF/2 compony out of bizzness for years. soo I just replace with regular toilet.
Are used to have one of those that was similar to that it was called in Eljer and it was a pretty good Toilet lasted for many years but then it eventually got to the point that I could not get parts for it anymore so I had to replace it and I ended up getting a toilet from the big box store and man the one I got from the big box store what a big piece of crap it is. We use it because we bought it and it’s there but it would not have been a toilet that I would be a big fan of and I would probably not buy it again. Got it from our famous Lowe’s department store. Should have went to a plumbing supply house and got me a good toilet somewhere else. Since I didn’t have a Steve in my town.
I have one commercial tenant that has one of those types of toilet. Seems like overkill to me. At least I learned how to change the cartridge when the time comes. Thanks for the knowledge, Steve.
I have one of these that when it finishes filling it shuts off abruptly causing a loud water hammer. Sometimes it will turn back on again abruptly a few seconds after filling with more water hammer making a squealing noise and then shut off again a few seconds later. Anyone know what might be causing that?
I have to disagree with Steve about this one. Miss Molly doesn't need a power flush. she just needs to go outside pinch off a Fritz, and everything's good 💩
@@jackpfeffer4213 yeah, it sounds like a public restroom. it always startles me if I flush one of those when using someone else's bathroom. unexpectedly powerful flush.

Believe it was the 501-b that was recalled. I replaced dozens of these a few years ago under recall
@@AtlasRoadside. the 503 was also recalled
I run into those wc once every 10 years 😆 you need them for those people that shit a 20ft log. 😂
I believe that is the recalled version I recommend getting it replaced

Had mine 16 years and only started to leak now. I stand by it.
Good to SEE MOLLY. GREAT Video STEVE . THAT TOILET LOOKS LIKE A SUBMARINE
Back when I used to live in a House in town, the Chlorine in the water would destroy the flapper in the toilet tank.
I agree Steve! I'm not a fan of the flushmate ,they are loud, and sometimes hard to get parts! Had to replace the whole tank one time! Not fun

What makes the tank make rust inside the bowl?
Howdy Steve and Molly
You are next-levek bad ass! Awesome videos, guy!!
Those were made for high usage with fast recovery rate like a flushometer in commercial establishments.
Wouldve been nice if dude give an explanation on why he changed the floater/actuator and why he loosened the too and put it back on.
you put the new cartarge in and have to adjust it till you hear the water stop ..by turning cartage ,then its set to go .
Why are these used exactly? To handle big logs?
- Haha... I have two of the comfort height Sloan Flushmate toilets and they work pissah! I've never had one get clogged or, failed to completely flush in the 5 years I've had them....
Another great video Steve!
What if it's shooting water between the tank and the bowl every time you flush it? What do I do in order to fix it?
I don't think I've ever seen one of those in a house! Only restaurant.
The nice trick using your plyers to remove the cartage thanks for that trick Bill N LI NY

Those toilets are noise glad i don't have one. Good job on fixing it Steve
I have a leak of running water problem bug i dont know where the leak is from. Where do i get the parts for ficmxing it? Anybody know?
Where can i get that cartridge?

I gave mine away..it would raise the dead when late night flush by ex.. totto for me.. I like sleep
Some are under recal .
Had one of them things blow apart a porcelain tank at a Fortune 500 company in the executive restroom of all places
Not a fan of the Flushmate either
Bought a house 15 years ago with 3 of them.
Buy the genuine cartridge, not the weak import copy.
That thing looks like it came off a spaceship

I bought one of those and water wouldnt stay in the bowl. Nobody knows why. No blockage anywhere. Old toilet works fine. We have to go back!
I need a power flush for the way my stomach is after eating at IHOP or Golden Corral!
WHY IS THERE WATER INSIDE THE TANK (OUTSIDE OF THE FLUSHMATE). I CAN SEE THE WATER MOVING AROUND WHEN YOU FIRST FILL THE FLUSHMATE
powerflush looks weird i guess they're ok when working.
I have 4 of those toilets. Noisy but they take no shit lol
