Screw cartridge in till you see the top of the threads, then screw in 1/4 turn till water stops filling, I always change the duck bill vac breaker, and the screen above the supply line. Great video as always bro
HERE IS A TIP , sometimes the cartridge is too tight to screw out with Channeloc pliers or even the black plastic Sloan wrench, I Carry a 12 inch length of 1 1/2 schedule 40 plastic pipe with proper notches sawed out . Made it in 3 minutes, it will fit down down into the tank and engage the teeth then turn the pipe with your Douglas pliers

I work maintenance at a medium sized hotel that is full of these. They can be very sensitive to water pressure. Normally that kit comes with a replacement screen for the water inlet. Did not see you change that. The screen keeps large chunks of debris from getting into that cartridge. When they get even slightly plugged it can affect operation. They have a tool for unscrewing the cartridge, but I usually do just what you did with my channelocks. Great vid Steve!
Flushmate shows the cartridge wrench ST100500 on their website for $10.58. Currently on sale. Regular price is $13.22. If you repair many of these a day it might be worth the expense.
I had a tenant call me once, he had bent over to flush and his keys fell in at the same time and down the pipe they went. I'm not sure what he expected me to do for him lol.
i put 7 of these in a restaurant and its nonstop running, ive done everything and checked everything and replaced some and i get a call every month or 2 for an outrageous water bill due to toilets running all night when nobody there. ive tried every adjustment and all the tricks, ive been a plumber for 35 years. might have to start replacing brand new toilets at my expense
Steve, there is a calibration procedure for these. If you call the 800 number on there that will walk you through it. Had to do my first one about a month ago. Calibration is important.
Toilets mounted on the wall and doesn't touch the floor with Sloan regulator valve they get a big job done fast and quick to mop up the floor she has a nice toilet and doesn't use a lot of water
They make a kit for these where you replace the handle assembly with a battery operated actuator and you’ve got yourself an automatic touchless toilet.
You were lucky to get the cartridge out. I had one once and I couldn't get the cartridge out to save my soul. Wound up replacing the entire inside mechanism.
We have the sloan flushmate toilets throughout our house and they've been wonderful.... until they break lol kind of a pain in the ass. Right now the master bath has a sluggish flush and we've tried almost everything, hence why I'm watching RUclips videos trying to figure it out. We replaced the cartridge and no go. The water pressure is good. I think we will try an auger and see if it's plugged up. I ♥️ Molly! And I died laughing @ the Pelosi comment 🤣 She can be found in the bottom of everyone's toilet bowl.
Horrible toilets. I had an American Standard with a slightly different Sloan tank. Replaced many valves. It's loud when they start to leak. Makes an animal sounding whine. You have to shut the water off. Every time I replaced it they were getting harder to find. Finally the tank itself went. They no longer made them. I was able to track one down but it was a real PITA. This all so far was the easy part. The bigger issue I had was the linkage rusted out along with the linkage clips. Am Stand wanted $300 for 3 rods and 6 clips. I ended up making my own with welding rod, copper wire and car door panel clips. It wasn't pretty but worked great up to and including the day I sold that house. Never again. I have a new house with Pro Bowl now. Never heard of them and was expecting to have to put in Toto's or Kohler. Turns out they are great flushers. Not one issue so far. No leaka here momma!
Hi Steve, Gerber does make a rear discharge toilet like that. Gerbers version doesn't have the sloan flushmate in it. It has normal tank parts in it still not cheap though. I just thought you should know that. Great job on fixing that one.
we had a toilet like that and the air bladder blows some people were really hurt bad there was some kinda court action with the company they sent me a new tank but we changed too a kowler with the handy capped bathroom.
What's with the comment about the apex being scary hope it doesn't blow off ??? It ain't going nowhere don't need to. Get people nervous for no reason ?
He might have been referring to Shark Bite push to connect fitting, not so much the PEX plumbing. I've see old school plumbers lump them all into one category,
I had one of these about 15 years ago. And flushed great but my flushmate fractured at the neck and i had to replace it with another for about $110. This was before the recall and it luckly did not blow apart.
She will call again. The only people that get offended by the "San Fran Nan" jokes are the nutballs that continue to vote that slag heap in. This lady is a transplant and ESCAPED the CA madness. All she needs now is to get the Boston accent and she will fit right in.
Why don't they make channel locks with a phillips head and flat head screwdriver attached. One tool does all. Normally any homeowner with channel locks needs no plumber at all. LOL. Why does Steven never wear pink gloves ?
Yeah those are pretty common where my grandparents are living. Not a power flush but a rear flush with a grinder box connected to it where it pumps up and out.
Am I the only woman who tries to figure out what the problem is???? My roommates boyfriend and son in law are so quick to say call a plumber!!! Shame on them!!! And here I am looking at videos to try and see if I can fix it!!
The toll free number on those will give excellent free help. Oh am I the first commenter??? There is a pig valve I think it is called also that goes out and it is a very small piece of rubber you can see where it goes on the part next to the sticker. Sometime it gets dirty. It is a one way valve SORRY SPOKE TOO SOON you changed the pig
You give this woman grief for being a liberal from California, but you're living and working in the People's Republic of Massachusetts which is every bit as liberal as Commiefornia.
i did call slone flushmate hotline and this unit/serial number is not under the recall
I have the same problem
Do you know where I can buy this piece?
@@ismacruz6855 did you ever figure this out? Cause mine is doing the same thing.

The video of miss molly's first day of work, she seemed so unsure of her self. It makes me happy she now a master tech... 😁

Great job worked on a couple of them here in maryland myself.
I've worked on those flush mates before if they spring a leak on the side you have replace the whole flippen pressure tank.
I worked on one of these today. I just replaced the whole tank assembly. Quick and easy.
I always found that to be the easier, faster way as well.
Can a regular tank be used on these toilets?
@@rafaelquinones504 Tanks has to be designed to handle the flushmate cartridge.
Interesting toilet, never saw one like that !
Been waiting for this video. Part two of "romance by the boiler" repair. And ohh man did you get THE SHOT Steve!! Not easy being cheesy mamma :)

Yep 👍 those are interesting toilets I use to work on those all the time back in the day. ✌️
We named our long hair Chihuahua rescue Molly after her. They look similar and are so smart

What did they have you do?
Thanks for the video bro.
Great job Steve I learned something today from watching this video about SOLAN pressure toilet
The ridged EZ change faucet tool works great for those cartridges.... hated bending my pliers/ channel locks to do that....
That little grey rubber piece is theduckbill valve it doesn’t let water in it pulls air in.
Toilets mounted on the wall and doesn't touch the floor with Sloan regulator valve they get a big job done fast and quick to mop up
the floor she has a nice toilet and doesn't use a lot of water
Steve, they do make a socket to use to pull those cartridges
I remember this lady from a previous video. Furnace repair or something. Awesome lol.
Sorry, Steve, but Molly needed to go into that house with you... Have a great Christmas everyone!
My Church has those type of toilets. Those toilets remind me of one handle flush toilets or urinals. They're power flashers.
They make a kit for these where you replace the handle assembly with a battery operated actuator and you’ve got yourself an automatic touchless toilet.
Had one of those in the freshman dorm bathroom in college. Used to have contests to see what we could get it to flush down.
You were lucky to get the cartridge out. I had one once and I couldn't get the cartridge out to save my soul. Wound up replacing the entire inside mechanism.
I think it’s cool as shit you bring your dog to service calls.
Great job and video like always

Steven has a video for just about everything
I spent two months trying to fix mine🤑. Before that it never had a problem in 25 years. I ended up replacing the insides.
I worked at a garage that had one of those explode in the bathroom. Pretty epic damage. It pulled the screws holding the stall wall out.
Some of the earlier designs have a steel strap which is placed over the tank to help prevent rupture.
Hi Steve,
