  • Today's video is a care guide on the Chocolate Cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis). Also called the Emerald cichlid, the Chocolate cichlid is an awesome South American cichlid to keep.
    They are relatively peaceful for a large cichlid, and they can be tank mates with a variety of cichlids and other fish. They have great personality and color, and I would definitely recommend them - as long as you have a large enough tank size!

    Had a beautiful one named Bobo. She was nearly 11 inches, weighed 1/1/4 lbs and had a nuchal hump. Sadly died from bacterial cysts. Bobo could change into every color except blue and white.

    Great fish! Completely agree with everything there. I’ve got one about the same size and age in my 125 that gets along great with the Severums, Geos and Oscar in the tank.

    Wow that 180g tank is awesome! I bet that tank cost a fortune. I keep African cichlids and community tropical fish. You got me itching to start a South American cichlid tank! Love that gold severum and the geos especially. Nice tank all around.

    I have one too they have great personality. Mine is blind one on his right eye but it's cute how he tries to figure out where his food is. Once he finds it he darts like an oscar.😂

    can you share the growth rate of your chocolate cichlid? I've had mine for 6 months, only grew from 2 inches to about 3.5 inches, wondered was it expected

    Recently added a 2” chocolate to my 125 gal. Can’t figure out why he stays at the top and won’t swim with the other Severums and Gouramis. He also swims erratically fast back and forth. Don’t see any disease or anything.

    Hey so my tank with severums, my 125, I had a chocolate, when my tank crashed, he was the only one who died, about 3 years old, so later I got another one and after about 4 years it got swollen at the vent, quit eating, i had to put him down. Just bad luck? are they weaker than others like severums

    He is on my list, the only fish that you have that I'm not considering is the Tapajós, but the Severum,(4) chocolate, (1) electric blue acará,(4)Bala shark(4) and perhaps rainbow fish (2) and Oscar(1) for a tank in meters (1.6 meters length) and 50 centimeters width and height that we'll be 400 liters of water, what do you think about this?

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  Год назад

      Sounds like a great setup. It might be a bit tight once the group of Balas are adults. But overall a great tank

  • @thenamesfrog85
    @thenamesfrog85 Год назад

    There fine with small fish in general too, just gotta have some big peices of bog wood for hiding places in case the chocolate gets into a mood but mostly there fine, same as Oscar's I have 2 40cm (15 inch) Oscar's and there in a tank with heaps of fish ranging from 5cm - 10cm (2inch - 4inch)
