    Before covid happened, I was in such a good place. I was losing weight, eating healthy, exercising and feeling great. Then covid hit us. We went into lockdown, i lost my Mom to covid and I went into a deep depression. Gained tons of weight, eating bad etc. I've been trying very hard to dig myself out. Your video today and several others are helping me with ideas on things I can do. Thank you

      So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I’ve noticed with myself, in life when I have gone through a particularly rough spot, as I slowly pull out of it, I’m changed a bit, for the better, because I’ve gained some insight. When it’s hard, I tell myself to just focus on putting one foot in front of the other and step by step, progress happens. Take care. 🌿

    My best habit/routine is to have a reminder/gentle sounding alarm each evening that tells me "get ready for bed". When I hear it, I go brush my teeth (brushing my teeth in the evening for some reason is the most difficult thing to make myself do). After that I go through my apartment and tidy up: pick up any bits that are out of place and put them back, wash any remaining dishes, wipe down counters in the kitchen, put to soak any legumes/grains that I plan to cook with next day, etc. While I do this I also air out my bedroom. The whole thing takes maybe 15 minutes but makes such a difference. I find it relaxing and meditative, so it also helps me wind down before bed. Additionally, I set the time for this alarm a little early, so once I'm done with this routine I have time to read before sleep.

    • @gingersal8052
      @gingersal8052 2 года назад +1

      That's a great idea, I'm going to try that! I'm using alarms for remembering to take meds and it's incredibly effective, especially when days are always different.

    Thank you for filming a "daily habits" video that looks real and honest. Especially the part where you talked about getting anxious and not being able to do basic things like showering of doing your skincare. I've been there, so I really appreciate it.

  • @kirstenbutler7498
    @kirstenbutler7498 2 года назад +19

    I read somewhere that showers can actually be really triggering for people with sensory issues. When my mental health is low I tend to notice that having a shower takes a lot of extra effort and this explanation really made sense to me. There are multiple changes in temperatures, it can be loud, it impairs your sight (momentarily) and depending on the products you use the fragrance can be overwhelming. I normally wouldn’t categorize myself as someone with sensory issues but when my anxiety is high I definitely feel like these things impact me more than they normally would.

    Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory! And the black pepper helps with absorption, so if you repurchase, you should look for one that includes it. I've been taking turmeric for a few years and I can seriously vouch for it. It's one of those that you may not notice at work, but the second you take it away, you feel it!! I've had joint issues, gut issues, etc. and I find it really does help ease a lot of those day-to-day symptoms.

    I found your channel just awhile ago and love it. I have been watching all of your videos. You and Alex are very engaging in your conversations with your viewers. I just love, love your new home and that you both do much of the work yourself. I am glad that people are recognizing depression and anxiety, but when I was young, I am 71 now, I didn't have the help that is available to people today. Sharing things about your life is very brave and I admire that you do it so well and thoughtfully. Having been raised by a English mum (I am Canadian) I envy your home and how you have the nicest kitchen. My dream was to live in England, but as most of my immediate family live here, would be too hard, so I just visit when I can. I am starting to use some of your receipts. Always look forward to your channel.

    I agree that attaching one habit to another is so helpful. I'm really proud of myself for sticking to the habit of doing a 5 minute meditation every morning while I wait for my tea to brew. I've tried many times to stick to a meditation schedule but I would always stop after a while. Meditating in a time slot that was otherwise wasted doing other stuff (like being on my phone) I'm now using productively :)

    Watching your routine and how much peace it has brought you definitely inspires me to get back to mine. As you said it's so easy to let these things slip when we aren't feeling mentally well but they are the very same things that will make us feel better...the humour of life lol. I appreciate your healthy approach to mastering one routine at a time before you move on to something else like reading as you mentioned. Feels much more approachable and sustainable. :)

    Im the same with self care. One of my best hacks is using google home routines to remind me of when to shower, when to clean up, how long to brush my teeth etc. I have ADHD and after my meds ware off its so hard to remember to do anything for myself; so google reminding me (along with motivational messages I've set up) is extremely helpful!

    my list of good habits
    - extending my news cycle back to 24 hours (i only read the news once a day at the same time every day)
    - limited shortform media (i don’t scroll tiktoks, reels or shorts- longform articles and youtube videos/ted talks only)
    - digitizing important docs as soon as i receive them (no lingering around in file cabinets or junk drawers of doom)
    my next goal is probably getting my screen time down to 6 hours a day (i’m currently at 8 hours yeeeesh)

    Lovely video! I think in terms of habits, the biggest one for me has been exercising fairly consistently (3-4x/wk). It’s funny, but after the first month or two I really notice when I don’t take that time for myself, even if it’s just a 10min yoga video it makes all the difference in how I feel. Even though it is hardest to get motivated on those days, I find, on the days I feel down, it nourishes my soul if I do yoga and tidy the house, take a shower, such things. Sometimes I am in full cleaning mode and just whiz through the house, but on down days, I just take my time with it and find it very relaxing. Even tough I am not generally a tidy person.

    Love this honest and raw vlog of your day! Amazing! My healthy habit this year has been no procastination! I have been studying Monday to Friday, off weekends, time blocking my routine of getting up making breakfast early and having a slow mindful time eating it. Making peppermint tea ready for me to study (it is a reminder that its time to study). Then afterwards taking time to give myself my instant reward for studying. I use stickers as well in my study journal to show progress xD i have been not using phone before bed and either read or if i am sleepy i will just go to sleep. Drinking 2 refills of timed water bottle a day, too. I am currently working on eating healthier and snacking less :)

    Turmeric and black pepper are anti inflammatory. The black pepper helps absorbtion of the active ingredient curcumen in turmeric. Also used as a natural antibiotics in iovedic techniques. Hence its good for active or prevents infection. Magic gold. Thank you for a wonderful video again. I look forward to your upload. I like how you keep it real.
