магическая девочка! я поржал! когда хью заиграл на рояле, ты сделала налице букву "о", и застыла, чем напомнилам мне секскуклу долли!(без обид - ты была самой красивой долли на свете)) это у меня тараканы в голове.))
Hugh Laurie started playing the piano at the age of six. No surprise that he knows his way around those keys. Loved your reaction. ❤ And loved having some Extra Maggie singing along the way. ❤❤
I started at 6 too. I can't even fake being as flat-handed casual as he is.
Hugh Laurie is one of the most multi-talented people I know. A graduate of Eton (where Princes William & Harry schooled) and of Cambridge (Anthropology honours), he was an olympic-rated rower. He and his uni pal Stephen Fry formed a satirical comedy duo which starred on UK tv for 20 yrs before Hugh went to LA for House. Unlike most tv stars, he and his wife Jo have been happily together for 35 yrs and have three kids. My oldest son got to know the family over 25 yrs ago. He is a genuinely funny guy, very self-deprecating, and rather perfectionist, as his Scots Presbyterian upbringing demanded.
Love him and Stephen Fry’s comedy. Hugely underrated and entertaining
I love me A Bit of Fry and Laurie! ❤
An absolutely wonderful piece by Hugh Laurie. Between this and House, you'd never know he was English as he adapts accents so well. I've no doubt you'd love his various roles in the last three Blackadder series', completely different characters each time. That said, one of his crown jewels is his, and Stephen Fry's, brilliance in the Jeeves and Wooster episodes. Fry and Laurie bring the P. G. Wodehouse characters to wonderfully charming life in those adaptations of the short stories. If you ever have the time, Maggie, please watch at least one of the Blackadder (seasons 2, 3 and 4) and Jeeves and Wooster episodes. I promise you won't regret the time invested.
Magnificent production of the P.G. Wodehouse characters by Fry and Laurie. I have the box set which I have watched many times over. Laurie's genius on the piano shines through the silly 1920's style songs he tries out on Jeeves, the highlight for me is when he does the duet with Jeeves, saying "sir" after each of his particular vocal contributions. Even the introduction to the episodes were iconic.
you should take a peek at him in Blackadder - I recommend series 3 where he is the Prince Regent - any episode really. It is wonderful and totally funny.
And Jeeves and Wooster))
@@Flat0Line1
Got to be good to play Wooster to Stephen Frys Jeeves 😂😉🇬🇧
@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 and also he played there a few catchy songs :D forty-seven ginger-headed sailors my fav
Yet another actor who is a great musician. Charlie Chaplin, Robert Downey Jr., Frank Sinatra-heck the whole rat pack...it seems that once you get over the stage fright, the world is your oyster. Excellent performance by Hugh, and I loved your sing along analysis.
also hugh jackman who is a triple threat
Such a talented dude. Gotta love those multi-hyphenates.
House was always my favorite show. So good. I never knew he had an English accent until years ago. I’m now remembering little snippets of his character House playing the piano in some scenes. So good at so much!
You should try and find some episodes of Jeeves and Wooster with Hugh and Stephen Fry.
Don't forget, he was also part of a comedy duo w/ Stephen Fry early in his career. A very talented person.
He also played a character in the British series Black Adder.
@@Cyberplayer5 The prince of England in one series and a British officer in another.
I’ve known he could sing for years upon years, and yet I never thought to look up people reacting to his voice until this video popped up! Such an old school tone.
Dr. House was really great as Hugh Laurie!
Stephen Fry was hypnotised so he can sing, nerves, only hugh knows the Triger word
OMG He is so Good never thought he was a Vocalist or Musician. WOW
I was at his concert. He hade a great time. We also. It was just pleasure, swing and timeless sensation
OMG!!! I was so excited when I saw this reaction video!! I stumbled on this video about 2 years ago and immediately fell in love with it. Hugh Laurie is SUCH an amazing talent. So glad you liked it!!!
I will always remember him from Blackadder.
Oh yeah as the Prince Regent 😂😂😂
My favorite by Hugh Laurie is Louisiana Blues. I never loved the blues until I heard him sing it.
Sir Hugh's Jazz is amazing. His stylistic influences are from the early New Orleans and Chicago Jazz scene and it shows in the majority of his work. He is a classically trained pianist though so some of that comes out from time to time as well. I can (and have) spent days listening to his stuff.
Not that anyone asked but his novel The Gun Seller is an absolute corker and probably my favourite book.
It is, agreed. Hugh found it excruciating to write so unlikely to do so again.
I saw Hugh In all his concerts when he came to my country!!! Very very talented and great guy above all
Maggie, no doubt you''ll do amazing digging into acting... but, I am mesmerized hearing you singing the blues. Made for you. 🥰
Talented dude.
He was also the father in Stewart Little and he was also in the first live action 101 Dalmatians
Amazing job by Hugh Laurie... didn't know he had this talent. This song was first released by Louis Armstrong in 1928! Many people covered this through the years. One of my favorites is Jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater performing at the Lincoln Center in 2016.The talent this woman has ... and the sass too!!! I know you will enjoy this!!!
Hugh Laurie is a legend lol
It's not just that Hugh Laurie can play the piano brilliantly... Or that he can sing with superb taste and control...
It is that he understands the blues and can present it from a place of deep, deep love and emotion.
It's like he's channeling the voice of so many traditional performers of New Orleans's Storyville neighborhood.
Damn, I didn't even know about this!
That's one reason why I like channels like this one, I learn about all sorts of interesting music/musicians!
Both his CD’s are really worth buying.
There's an episode of House where the patient is a piano prodigy with neurological issues. House rolls a piano into the room and they jam out for a bit. The actor playing the patient is Dave Mathews.
Another person who may surprise you is actor Robert Downey Jr. (Chaplin, Iron Man), singing the Police song "Driven To Tears" at Sting's 60th birthday concert. Are you sure instead of a mic problem, you weren't just hearing the sound of the drummer drowning everything out by pounding so hard on the toms with what look like timpani mallets?
When they say 'multi-talented' they mean it. lol! His book that you mentioned earlier is really good too.
Great reaction!! I've known for a while that Hugh was an accomplished pianist, but I didn't know he sang as well. He is truly a renaissance man. Will be definitely looking out for more videos of him playing and singing.
wow what a multi talented artist unreal great piano and sings well..
You need to review K D Lang’s tribute to Roy Orbison. It’s a live tribute of Orbison’s “Crying “
That first part sounds like "Wayfaring stranger" to me. He's so good! Seems like some people have extra talents. I've seen this performance a few times and it's just so fabulous!
Glad to see and hear your reaction to Hugh Laurie! Loved your reaction.
Just a suggestion, Gaby Moreno singing Weed Smokers Dream with Hugh Laurie's band. Sultry stuff.
Such emotion, like the piano is talking for him!
I love when you get surprised during a reaction, Maggie.
I saw him and this band live at the New Theatre, Oxford. Was the best gig I have ever been to… and I’ve seen Prince !
Co-starred in the Black Adder series; played Bertie Wooster opposite Stephen Fry's Jeeves in some P. G. Wodehouse adaptions; Gregory House; musician; novelist.
Quite the resume. So multi-talented.
He does a very cool version of Iko Iko as well, which is worth checking out on RUclips
Just proof that it's always 3 AM somewhere.
Music is the big love of his life. In the UK he is well known as a comedy actor, far more than as House.
this guy impresses me
If you watch Bits of Fry and Laurie you see him on piano in some of sketches
Jeeves & Wooster - Molly the mooch, Stephen Fry is hilarious with his addition to the tune.
If I was playing in a melodrama, I would definitely have to have the music from this song in it.
One of my all time favorite blues songs. Joe Cocker also does an excellent cover of it.
Hugh Laurie is one of my favorites. Dr. House can play.
Great reaction to a great video!
I first got to know Hugh Laurie through comedy, appearing routinely with his best friend and comedic partner Stephen Fry, first in episode of The Young Ones (along with other comedic talents Ben Elton and Emma Thompson), then later in the Fry & Laurie works and then in Wooster & Jeeves, adapting the Wodehouse stories where Laurie played upper class nincompoop Wooster and Fry playing the very intelligent gentleman's gentleman Jeeves who constantly gets Wooster out of the comically idiotic situations he gets himself into.
When I saw him in House I was nonplussed as I loved his comedic works and found it disconcerting to see him as an angry, arrogant, acerbic, addicted anti-hero. No bueno. He was very good in the role as he is a consummate professional, and he earned every penny he made, but I just didn't enjoy the show at all.
He managed to somehow work piano playing into every one of his shows, and he's obviously a master at it. Love this video!
I'm a big fan of "House", Maggie, and on a few too-rare occasions Hugh did have a chance to play the piano a little bit, and a little on the electric guitar 🎸 My personal favorite is an episode that Dave Matthews guested on as a patient. They have a scene where he and Hugh play the piano together. Fabulous!! 👏👏👏👏
I loved this and also recommend The Righteous Brothers version of Summertime, a solo by Bobby Hatfield.
Only Maggie could listen to this New Orleans classic and think 'New York State of Mind'. LOL
Dude is seriously multi-talented.
this was great. I really love his take on Didn't it rain, (from the album mentioned in the wickipedia) You should do a comparison between that version and Sister Rosetta Thorpes version sometime.
I think Gershwin would have approved of the Intro.
THAT was GOOD. Hugh is one talented guy!
You really need to check out the episode of the PBS show "Great Performances" called "Let Them Talk". It features Hugh Laurie talking a trip across the south looking at the history of the blues and is where this particular recording comes from. I think you'd really love every part of it as well as some of the other performers Hugh includes on this journey.
You have a real feeling for the blues Maggie, you should do your own album.
You should listen to Cab Calloway's 1940's version of this. Hugh did an exceptional job on this cover.
This is pure New Orleans. It starts with a funeral march, a Dirge. Then they side into dancin' in the streets, Mardi Gras!
Band leader is the great Allen Toussaint.
it DOES sound like summertime! I was wondering what it reminded me of.
Hi Maggie, fun fact, although Hugh is not a real MD, both his father and son are.
Yeah he speaks a ton of languages was nearly an Olympic Rower and plays a bunch of instruments
It was Hugh fantasy to play with New-Orleans jazz musicians.
Lovely classical feel intro.
got both his albums and seen him live twice. Hugh is more a musician than actor and he is an amazing actor.
I'd love to see you react to some of his older work - especially "Song for America"! I think that one will amuse you LOL 😆
He did all the playing of the instruments in "House" and most of the ones in his apartment in the show was his.
First! Always love wathing your reactions!
You do know in the House Tv show he played the piano and it was really him playing :)
His best work was in the British comedy series Blackadder playing opposite Rowan Atkinson
amazing Blackadder only gets a brief mention o yes he is also a comedian.
Have a look at this piece featuring Sir Tom Jones and Rhiannon Giddings at Jools Hollands new years bash.
Thank you Maggie, I knew I was hearing Summertime and NOT St.James Infirmary. OK a minute or so later he finally gets to the song we were promised. His voice reminds me of Tom Waits only not quite as snarly.
Should check out his rendition of Battle of Jericho.
Also remember Hugh Laurie played the father in Stuart Little so he goes from one extreme to another
this is a part of his journey to new orleans documentary. it is on youtube and worth watching.
House M.D. was the medical version of Sherlock Homes. House... Holmes. Wilson... Watson. Pretty sure he lived at 221 B Baker St. roomied with Wilson for a time.
Try Everything but the girl - Missing, Moony - Dove, The Hooters - Johnny B
You may want to check out Dudley Moore, probably more known in the US for his acting.
He was a fantastic pianist
You must also do "Unchain My Heart" by Hugh Laurie.
Jeeves and wooster
A classic 👍
Pardon my Evil Super Villain Laugh when your jaw dropped at his piano lead-in. I've long been aware of his many talents in many fields. His piano playing featured in several of his comedy skits during his early career. He's far more than an actor, as you just discovered. And as my wife just pointed out to me, most people who only know him as Dr. House don't even realize he's British. Explore his works more fully, please--if only to further your own enjoyment of life. --Dan
Though if you watch House enough, he does both play the piano and sing on the show on multiple occasions.
Don't beat yourself up, Maggie. Most of us fans of "House" had no idea Hugh Laurie is such a great musician, and the Blues is his favorite kind of music.
He played often music a lot on HOUSE. Very talented guy. When Brits sing, there accent disappears!
I dont think that was recording equipment I think that was old style sound set up for a stage thats why the sound is a little off . Also remember this is a live performance in a small venue :)
Hi Maggie Hugh is interesting
The Dr. is in session.
There are a few actors with great voices. Check out RDJ with Sting
G'day! The first time I heard this song was from the group "Geordie" (from Newcastle UK) with a much more rock sound...Fun Fact the lead singer was Brian Johnson before he joined AC/DC... This bluesy version is interesting but much less exciting. Cheers!
An aside, check out the Righteous Brothers, Summertime.
Of all the things he does his concert piano playing sets him apart. You would like that stuff I'm sure. Mr Allen Toussaint make an appearance. You should do him if you like this kind of piano.
Maggie - We have to hear you sing a lot more jazz. It's in your DNA not to mention your beautiful voice.
🙏🤗👍💕
👍❤️
Dimash and Domingo singing The Perl Fisher Duet just released. We are urgently waiting for you to do a "blind" reaction. It's Opera.. come on.. where are you Maggie?
She may be Julliard... I am of the 'Bill the Cat' variety. 'ACCKKK!!!!'
😳😍
"House" did real well and made him a ton of money, but it's a long way from his best work. He's great in Blackadder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and Peter's Friends, for instance.
That sounds like Summertime from Porgy and Bess,,,or am I hearing things…🤔
I guess I spoke too soon…that’ll teach me to wait until the end of the video to comment…😏
Hello Maggie can you react the song of love can make you cry by urgent please ❤️❤️❤️ love you from Philippines
