Hugh Laurie falls under the heading of "It's NOT FAIR" - gifted aftor, virtuoso musician, painter, scholar and apparently great at whatever he attempts. Love the guy (reminder - while playing House MD, he was faking the American accent, he is British!)

After I saw PBS do a documentary of him and his blues tribute I bought whatever CD’s I could find (about 10 or 12 yrs ago, I think). I was so blown away by his talent, his interpretation of the music. I had only known him from “House”- I also started looking into his other acting roles. He’s such an impressive man.

Most people know Hugh Laurie as an actor (House, Jeeves and Wooster) but don't know that he has a passion for blues, jazz, ragtime, etc. If you know much about New Orleans music, you may recognize the legendary Allen Toussaint in the right background leading the band. Toussaint was a driving force in rock and roll, R&B, and funk. He wrote a ton of hits and produced some of the biggest name in the music of the city. Later in this concert, Laurie brings out Tom Jones and Irma Thomas for a great version of Baby Please Make A Change. The whole concert is on RUclips.

Hugh Laurie is one of those all around amazing talents who can do anything. I was introduced to him a long time ago in a comedy show called "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" back in the 80s. Laurie is a brilliant comedian. I think he became almost a household name when he did House, MD. There are a lot of videos of Laurie singing on RUclips and they are definitely worth checking out. He has an amazing voice for the Blues.

Hugh Laurie is a world class everything. He was top rower in college, winner of the british national championship. He almost made it to the olympics. He has a Best Seller novel. Has 3 Golden Globes. Has been nominated to the Emmys 10 times, he's Commander of the British Empire. Has 2 Jazz albums. He sings and plays the piano, guitar, drums, harmonica, and saxophone and he even has a Guiness Record as the most watched leading man on television in 2011. Love than even when he's singing you can see glimpses of Dr. House in him.

He thought playing with "Banned From Television" the best other musicians, but no he went on tour with the greats. This concert was a true celebration of New Orleans Jazz and Blues. If you want to sample the original 'St James Infirmary', check out Cab Calloway's version! It was so good, no less an artist than Walt Disney did an animated musical cartoon for the song! Pretty sure Louis Armstrong also had a versoon of the song, and that's definitely worth a listen. Different voices all, but all a part of the history of New Orleans Jazz.
