37% Overdrive INSIDE the Stealth X Transmission (Hot Racing OD2 Gearset Installed) for Element Ecto
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 ноя 2024
- In this video - we achieve almost 40% overdrive in the Element Ecto - all with gearing INSIDE the Stealth X Transmission!
I have previously installed the optional 12% underdrive gears in the rear of the Stealth X transmission. This really works great with this truck, but I wanted MORE! However, getting more within the stock transmission really offers some challenges.
To test, I went ahead and purchased the 25% overdrive gear set from Hot Racing (www.ebay.com/i...)
I then installed these gears in the front of the transmission (with a little modification) to get +25% in the front and -12% in the rear = 37% total front-rear bias!

Good thinkn mister😁She still holding up? Im fuxn to finally do something to mine.
Yes! Holding up great after all of this time.
@@RoadsideRC great! Thanks
The over/ under drive looks to take that truck to the next level. Looks like it crawls much better
It really helps!
Awesome video excellent upgrades that definitely some wicked overdrive hopefully it holds up I smoked my pinion bearings in a hard pull
Dang! Good luck fixing that!
Now that is some serious overdrive! Don't need tape on the tire to see that on video. Performs fantastic!!!
Thanks! I like it!
I just followed your video and did exact same to mine. Thanks a lot Troy
Awesome! Glad to help!
It's definitely looking good you've brought that thing a long ways I have seen no one do that
Thanks!
Definitely doing this to my element Zuul. Thank you for the info appreciate it!
Glad to help!
That's awesome! Will be Interested to see how it holds up
So far, so good.
Maybe 4-5 packs through it.
That's great
Can't believe how shiny your truck looks, mine is well smashed up
Ha! It was still pretty new at this video.
Cool mod Bro !! Hope it stands the test of time. I found a gear set that gives 25% (ish?) and its by Team K&K I believe. (no affiliation) I put it in my Sendero and it seems to work just fine. It is a bit noisier than the stock gears because they are metal. Thanks for the vids.
Yes! KNK has the 25%, which is about the same as this Hot Racing setup.
So far, the truck has about 3-5 packs through it with this setup and it has been strong!
Nice.. i remember back when u had like 600 subscribers.. look at ya now. Doing good.
Yes! The more work I put in, the more growth there is!
Thanks for the support!
Well, my friend how has this worked out long-term. I’m sure everything is just fine. But I would like to know for my own build. Thanks.
It has been great! Many, many batteries through it. Miles of crawling...zero issues!
Right on, I may do that with mine down the road.
It does great!
@@RoadsideRC Nice!!!
What up Roadside! Hope your having a great weekend my friend! 👍💯
I am - thanks!
Have fun out there!
I imagine that you'll likely see some premature wear on the spur side and potentially over time in those HR gears since that top shaft/gear mesh will be a little out of alignment, or maybe they'll hold up fine?! Bearing not being fixed may also allow that top gear on the input shaft to wear on the case a bit since it's not captured... either way, great experiment. I purchased both the OD and UD gearset from HR back in the day for an Enduro not fully understanding how it went together at the time, was pretty disappointed realizing I couldn't use them both in the case. We'll see how this plays out! Good luck!
Yes - I assume these gears will not wear properly for sure.
So far, I am 4-5 packs in without an issue!
The top bearing is still captured, it just needed opened a little for it to hold in the case.
That thing crawls like a boss very impressed
Are you running any droop the way is so stable over he corse just nailed it for me
I relocated the shocks a little, but otherwise have left them alone.
I have the gatekeeper I run 25% od in mine I did order the same gears as you have in your ecto but I found what I running at the moment is fine for me
I bet 25% does work quite well!
@@RoadsideRC it works really well with the 1800kv fusion and 20 tooth pinion gear it crawls really well and side hills at over 50%.I have got low pro shock mounts and a different servo and full size battery tray up front plus I have different shock springs and oil to help to it does everything I have asked of it without much effort
How’s the case holding up? I’m looking to under & over drive my rig! Also would lowering overall gearing help? That would be piñon and spur gear change yeah? Have you made any changes there or would a different motor be how you would do that? Loving my ecto! Cool to see you working with it.
Great - literally zero issues through MANY packs.
I personally don't want to lower the overall gear ratio. I like to have the wheel speed when needed to hop over obstacles.
@@RoadsideRC Fantastic thanks man! Excited to get this done!
I knew you were going to try to get some more overdrive in this thing lol. Another way that you could get around the clearancing issue is 3-D print a new gear cover. I see that you also Re installed the solid front end
Yes! I went straight back to the stock axle - no question there for me.
You are right, I really need a 3D printer...
@@RoadsideRC ender 3 pro I have one and it is absolutely incredible
Awesome mod I think I am going to try on my element Enduro kit and trailrunner should work same transmissions. Any updates on its durability.
I have had 3-5 packs through it, no issues so far.
Works a dream!
Yes!
Awesome parkour 😊👍 like
Thank you!
Wow nice video my friend 😍😍👍👍
Thank you!
Love it I hope it works!!
Thanks! So far, 4--5 packs through it without issue.
Where and what are those wheels on your Ecto ,,, sorry bug ya but I love them ...I'm going to put stock upgrades in bag and try it may do what you done with hot racing so awesome!
Great!
Those are Ottsix Racing wheels. Called Varihub, as you can change the offset.
Thank you sir! I love them,,,I will try track down a set!! See you on next video 🤘🏻👍😃
Cool mod man, how did it work out long term ? It’s been several months sense this was released.. I’m building a new element crawler now and was wondering if I could go bigger better stronger faster (in the front anyways). Let me know man..
100% has worked like a champ! MANY packs of batteries through this later and it has been rock solid!
Cool mod. How has this held up for you? Was thinking of ways to improve my gatekeeper without having to go to far with upgrades. But I did change out my motor to a holmes hobby crawlmaster 10t (stock motor gave out), a 16t pinion, and 1.9 fling kings. I saw this and thought that this was a cool idea.
It has held up great, actually. Even when going brushless!
Not sure you want to for this, sounds like you are going more if a mud-truck route with King Flings and a 10t.
@@RoadsideRC I do have soft dirt (clay like) in my area and for me the slow action of it climbing in that element seems real to me. So I was curious to see if that mod might be a good option with some brass weight in the front to grab with little effort coming from the trigger. New to the hobby and trying to find out what might work for my rig.
Very creative, I like it. Really gives this platform extra legs - they're such a great value machine already! This could be the secret sauce in a comp! Love it.
Thanks for the idea and quality video :)
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Who in the world told u that u had to change axels and stuff to get that overdrive? But about 37% is perfect! If I want to get more. U can switch to portals and do some gear switching on the outside gears that r in the portal boxes.but anyways good job👍 cool video. And I hope it works out for u the way u want it to!
There isn't a way, without modifications, to get that much overdrive in the trans. Glad I made it work though!
Great video🇫🇷✌️
Thanks! 😃
So has this stood the test of time? Curious to hear about it.
Yes! Has done very well. Even under brushless power that lets it pull wheelies!
Can you try to fit some 2.2 tires and wheels on the Ecto I would like to know if they will work without binding the steering angle too much. I want to buy one but I like 2.2 rigs. I saw one video with 2.2's on it but they were really small 2.2's I think the 2.2 Hyraxes are like 5.5 tall and was just wondering how much they rub.
They would rub a lot without cutting/hex extenders.
These tires rub on the body when turning hard already.
Nice video :)
Thanks!
If I put just the hot racing od 2 gears in do they go in back or front of transmission? Looks like rear is faster than the front if I put it in wrong
Sounds like you need to double-check. You want the higher speed to he in the front. You can check easily with the tape on the wheels like I showed in the video.
So I see your not a fan of the independent suspension? Wow that’s a lot of overdrive! Not good for the trail anymore is it? I wanna put it in the Trx4 but still want to be able to trail with it.
See ya next time my friend 😁💯💯🤙
The IFS quickly went away.
Over the weekend, I just did a 3-mile trail loop with this setup. No issue at all.
I honestly can't understand why people have concern on large overdrive % and trailing. It has never impacted me negatively
@@RoadsideRC
I think it depends on your motor setup and how you drive your trail truck.
@Yoda - tell me more about what you are thinking.
@@RoadsideRC
Some people have really big motors and bash there trailing rigs and I think so much od could give problems wenn driving like that.
I do bash my trail rig and I don’t want od in it. But in my crawlers I want od. I tried it for the first time on the Ecto and I’m hooked! 😛
I would like to see some improvements so it side hills better, brass isn’t always the way to go.
This truck is so low, that I have not had any issues with side hills.
@@RoadsideRC
Maybe my side hilling is more steep than the ones you do?🤷🏻♂️
I ended up doing the spring mod, because I got tired of it flipping over wenn side hilling.
I’m currently waiting for Desert Lizard shocks to come in stock so I can try them.
Btw We don’t have any rocks here, so all my crawling is in the forest and I found that brass doesn’t do the rig any good where I crawl
How do you know wear to grind on the cover case?
I just watched for where there was interference.
Hey its been about 5 months since you did the 40 percent overdrive how has it been long term
It has been GREAT!
No durability issues at all, and the truck crawls like a champ!
How has this held up? Update would be great thank you.😊
100% has been fine! This truck has had MANY miles on it since this video - ZERO issues.
@@RoadsideRC thats awesome...I just did mine tonight same exact thing you did...works great! Have you noticed any heating issues with motor or esc by chance?
@@gb25jr Nope! No issues!
@@RoadsideRC glad to hear it..appreciate the replys...would be awesome to see a update video on the truck.👍💯
2 year update? I'm looking to do the same with my Ecto. Did you run into any issues?
No issues! Still running strong. Was driving it today!
@@RoadsideRCAwesome, thanks.
Years later how has it held up
Great! No issues at all. I even went brushless and it has been great.
@RoadsideRC that's awsome side question do you have any idea what shims are in the rear end for the diff lash mine all fell out when I went to change out my axle and don't know where to start
@@scotthelser5768 I do not. I would check the exploded diagrams as a first start.
So how did this do long term !?!?!? 🤔
Have never had an issue!
I will be taking it out with this setup in it tomorrow for a small comp.
I'm so confused I bought my rtr used which means it didn't come with a manual I bought the od3 hot gears set which is a 29/51 and it doesn't say anywhere what percent that will give me also which factory gears gives you the 11.8 od please help thanks
I think it is best if you download the factory manual from the Element RC page. It has some nice diagrams.
@@RoadsideRC OK great idea do you know anyway I can find out what percentage those 29/51 got gears are and thanks man your the best
@@jerrymccreary4081 hi, did find out that?
Hi bro…i want to ask, why my front wheel ecto not align straight?
A little toe-out helps with steering radius.
Hows the overdrive holding up?
GREAT!
This truck is now running a Castle 4S setup and it is still holding strong.
Is it still holding doing it this way
Yes! Working like a champ!
Have you noticed any issues with downhill with that much overdrive? I’ve been considering looking for an over/under drive for the axles, but this might be the best option. Also how can I buy one of those Roadside RC stickers?
Thanks!
I have had no issues with downhill. Overdrive, in theory, should help keep the front of the truck ahead of the rear when going downhill also.
I don't have a way to sell the stickers - yet! Working on that stuff. Right now, I only have a few sitting around the house as it is!
How’s the big OD now?
Still doing GREAT! MANY battery packs through it, no issues.
How did it work? Any damages so far?
Works GREAT!
No issues at all.
Is the ecto still going strong after a year
Yes! Never a single issue!
I’ve got another transmission on its way and some hot racing gears for a project comp truck! Can’t wait to see what I can do with it
Hi bro…how to fix toe out on ecto front wheel?
I don't believe you want to fix it! It helps with steering radius!
Otherwise, you adjust the linkage that connects both wheels behind the axle.
@@RoadsideRC ok thanks bro…will do it tomorrow…
So how is it holding up?
Great! Still going strong!
Watching this video 10times and don't understand how to get 40%> od. Hot ricing gear only for 25%
It is the combination of the factory gear set plus the hot racing gears.
@@RoadsideRC really?? I even don't know 😃. UD2 out of stock, only they have OD2 or OD3
Guys, this video is absolutely wrong, don't break or drill your Gbox. You will never get OD more than Hot ricing offered you. I bought it and tested. Nothing more than 25%
@@user-6tfvk70k78 I show you exactly how I got more than the 25% overdrive in this video. If you can't figure that out, I am sorry.
@@RoadsideRC look, I ordered that gears 50/30, and then I ordered inverse shaft Part#: ASC42024. And then, took my Gearbox, pull 52/28 and 53/27 them out. After that, I Input in the Gbox new hot ricing gears and the original team factory 54/26 gears.
With this setup we have only 25% rotation.
4 rotation rear axle
5 rotation front axle
In this option we get each rotation 25%.
25x4=100% rear
25x5=125% forward
How has this 38%done?
Awesome!
I am even now running it on 4S with the new Castle Mamba Micro x2 and have never had an issue. Love running a bunch of overdrive.
Good to hear. Just got an ecto so been interested in upgrading it. Definitely like all your tips
Do you have a 3D printer
I do not.
@@RoadsideRC they are worth it for rc alone. I made a tailgate for the ecto and put it up on thingiverse
