It's sound business sense (to me anyways). If a car is prepped to a high standard, it's way less likely that someone will turn up on your doorstep moaning, when something goes wrong. If you ever watch the guys on "Salvage Rebuilds UK" - they have the same "just fix stuff" ethos and I think that shows respect for the customer and will make people come back again (like the Jag owner in this video). Deffo need more dealers like Matt.

@@jamescameron314 car trader just needs profit. Once unit ( car ) ready. And can be dealt. Has a set figure in mind. Bad dealers doing no prep deal. But you just get the auction car and a wash and a blind MOT. That’s the difference.

@@duncanmcewan1049 this is true but you can't catch everything and there's always something that can go wrong that you could never have seen coming. The water pump in my recent purchase popped a core plug, and lost coolant. Luckily it was spotted before it did any damage, but it was unlikely anyone would catch that in a pre-purchase inspection, unless they x-rayed the thing first :D
I imagine that there are some in the trade who started out like Matt, but got burned badly a few times and decided it just wasn't worth the expenditure up front, and thought they'd be better off taking their chances and thus ended up moving over to "the dark side" of corner-cutting dodgy dealing! You'd hope that the good ones are always rewarded just enough, in the medium to long term, to make it all worth their while.

Hi Matt, Seeing as that is fast turnaround car I would be very happy with that profit. There are other positives, the guy buying the car was very honest and you are also very honest. The best deals are ones where both parties go away happy, your customer will be very happy that you went the extra miles and got the seatt fixed and the brakes replaced so he will not have any bills on that car for the next 12 months. Hopefully he will recommend you and you will get further sales in the future. I am a roofer and I always go the extra mile and as a result I get loads of business from recommendation, what goes around does come around. I asked the transporter driver why there was a rip in the seat. He couldn't speak very good english so I phoned the dealership up and got a very stern 'well it wasn't there when it was loaded on the transporter, so it's your company's responsibility'.
Found out that a salesman had damaged the seat and tried to palm it off to us as if I wouldn't check. Ended up having the entire seat replaced at their cost, with three months worth of courtesy car (merc GLA) as they ordered the wrong seat to begin with (non electric seat).
Now I check all items before i accept and sign for a delivery.

3:55 Yep, stop-start is a deal breaker for me.
I was all set to buy a beautiful two year old C180 Coupe back in 2016.
Right colour, right spec but no way of disabling the stop-start permanently.
    I had to walk away.

Bought one of these last year, with the Premium Plus AMG Line. Lovely car to drive and it looks very expensive for what it is. I took your advice and got the Gearbox services, Surprosingly main dealer mercedes was the cheapest option. They also dealt with a buch of recalls on the car that were outstainding.
Done a trip from Edinburgh to Windsor and back in April, managed to get 56MPG average and in super comfort.

I have a S205 C350e with 145k miles, and it's a pretty good car, it's a 2015 just like the one in the video. Having a quick look, looks like yours was a sport with no options or packs on it. You can tell which material the seats are made of by looking at the material. The artico has perforations on some panels, while the leather does not.

In answer to your question, it depends how much time and effort you put into the prep of the car. It seems like in your case you have good people who you trust to do a good job and give you value for money so the answer would be "yes". I imagine that a skilled seat repairer might not be an easy thing to find!

The 205 C Class had a 200, 220 and 250 diesel variants. 220 and 250 used the 2.1l engine, 200 I believe used a 1.6l diesel co developed with Renault and they seem to get mixed reviews with the main complaint being lack of power. My dad has a 2017 c250. Its a really nice car (particularly due to the prem+ pack) although it does have the tendancy to crash over bumps a bit. Overall a cracking car although I really detest the wheels that are on this car, the 5 spoke amg star wheels or the turbines look SO much better.

Great video I enjoyed it ... £10500 Investment for a £1500 profit 10 % ROI, is good but if you used to make a £1500 profit on a £3k car, which seems to be on your forecourt, then yes its a higher risk, but you are an experienced Trader and you took a punt and it worked out. Well done! ;)

Great work Matt. I'm actually thinking of buying this exact one myself (albeit in AMG Line Premium Plus Trim). Need to upsize from my mid 20s BMW 1er Hot Hatch and pretend to be a practical family man now that I've turned early 30s. Better this than a Qashqai though! Really impressed with your honesty and eye for detail, fixing those seats was a real class touch when you consider how small the imperfections were.

that XJ will be a good buy for someone. I really like the question about would you spend £11.4K and hope to make £1,500 profit - everyone moans about dealer prices, but the answer to that question is no I wouldn't as there would be cars that are hiding issues that would further reduce the £1,500 figure, potentially even into a loss. That's before we think about the cost of overheads such as owning the premises, insurance, bank interest etc and let's not forget the balance has to pay the owners salary. @Matt - I commend you for replacing the discs and pads and repairing the seat, the buyer should be very pleased that you've behaved so professionally.
