I thought hearing a chainsaw rev up in RE4 was far more terrifying than hearing Regenerators. The sound itself wasn't as inherently creepy, but it meant you'd have to deal with a bullet sponge who moves fairly quickly and will kill you in one hit if you get too close, usually while also worrying about a bunch of standard villagers. Plus most of them are in the first half of the game, when your guns are weak and ammo is scarce, which can leave you aching for ammo after an encounter.
For me is FNAF 4. I don't sure but there is animatronic scream and... screaming of child? I think so? I can imagine that little boy screaming when he's about to get eaten.
Dude, Yes! That Big Sister screech that makes your screen all fuzzy is terrifying! Especially when you didn't realize you were returning the last Little Sister and weren't prepared.
My thoughts exactly. I practically jump whenever I hear a warper. It feels like the audio of Subnautica was designed to scare people. Not to mention, there’s always the chance that a glitch will screw you over.
@@DaydreamingArtist322 thats because it was made to scare you. Its main purpose is to make you paranoid, panicked, and on edge so the jump scare of turning to see them coming right at you is more effective.
what makes it worse is that you are pretty much ALWAYS within earshot of a reaper. There are 26 spawns around the map, the map is about 2 km by 2 km, and you can hear a reapers roar from half a kilometer away
What, no mention of the Reaper sound from Mass Effect series (the third one in particular)?! That sound is made from nightmares. Sometimes I hear a similar sound in real life from a construction site or the railways, and I immediately look at the skies to see if there are, in fact, Reapers landing.
rantbird it's scary but it's not like they jump out at you or anything. Yeah, agree with the other replier. Banshee screams are alot worse just cause of how much of a bitch they are to kill
^ exactly. banshees i can handle, they're an enemy like any other one - all the reaper creatures are rather creepy. but the reapers themselves are still the worst for me. it's not about "jumping at you", it's about the feeling of imminent doom. because honestly, what can you really do against a reaper who can just blast your ass along with half of the city.
How about the Ghost's screech? I still hear it in my nightmares... Also the reapers are programmed to spawn behind you and roar, THANK YOU SO MUCH DEVS!
The sound of a coffin bursting open in the final chamber of a dungeon in *_Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)._* As someone who is terrified of Draugr and absolutely hates fighting them, that sound always makes me panic.
A resource pack I made my friends changes stone and all ores' breaking sounds to a creeper hissing sound. It was fun seeing them try to figure it out as I pretended to not hear it.
The screech of the big sisters in BioShock 2 always set me on edge, especially when I wasn't keeping track of how many little sisters were in a level and couldn't find a vending machine to spend every last dollar on ammo beforehand
The worst thing I heard was in the Phantom Menace game on the PS1, can’t remember when, but I heard... “Mesa nama jar jar binks, mesa your humble servant”
I feel like this should have been mentioned already, but seriously: Creepers. You take the right kind of gamer, especialy someone who's played ALOT, and have that sizzling sound effect right on the edge of their hearing and you have a scared gamer every time.
AGREED. My general lack of self-awareness in video games meant that I usually heard it coming from behind me, and by the time I turned around to freak out, the bloody thing had already exploded.
I know I'm way late but *sound of metal/giant knife being scraped against ground signalling Pyramid Head* Just...just imagine playing most other games and hearing that noise suddenly.
Personally, for me, it is the shriek of the Mass Effect 3 banshees that freaks me out the most. Even if I know how to fight them, I still instinctively fling myself across the room whenever I hear them. In game of course. No way anyone would do that in real life. I most certainly have not.
I have an annoying tendency to catch the commenter's edition first most of the time and have had some ideas they still didn't touch on even in two videos. I'm sure they want to keep the content varied but they already do tremendously so the occasional commenter threequel would be pretty cool, actually.
Very true! ;-) I have always - since I was a kid, been able to see, that movies/games are nothing real, and therefor nothing to be scared about. Alien Isolation though, really scares me very much. It is a VERY cool, scary and well made game ;-)
I actually use that to help understand clinical anxiety. Imagine hearing that constantly and never being able to find the enemy triggering it. That's it right there.
To be honest the sound I dread the most is the combination of the guardian music and the laser beeping when you get targeted by a stalker in Breath of the wild. It haunts my nightmares
No Banshee scream from ME3?! I make sure I'm always wearing brown trousers when I get to that part of the game o_O Also the headcrab zombie people in HL2 (*especially* in Ravenholm) are terrifying once you've heard the sound files played backwards... 😶
Or perhaps the sound of a vent rumbling overhead in *_Alien: Isolation (2014)._* I'm sure no one who has played that game can say they enjoy hearing that sound, especially if it's immediately followed by a loud, hoarse breathing sound. *Shudders.*
Grand Kaiju Gamer I’m terrified of all things Alien, so I decided to watch a play through of it by a comedic RUclipsr in order to help get over it. Didn’t help at all, btw. But I would jump at EVERY ambient noise, mostly the clicking of the computers.
For me it was always the motion sensor that gets me When I’m moving around in the vents and I hear that beep, that goddamed beep makes my heart skip 12 beats
While it’s not audio related, I almost dropped my efforts to conquer my fear when the let’s player entered the nest area. I just kind of froze, and slowly put down my phone and walked away.
The crying children in Doom 3, the growling of Reaper Leviathans in Subnautica, the motion tracker pings from Alien Isolation... Those will all send me to Brown Alert in seconds. But none quite generates the instant panic of hearing my personal favorite, Nuclear. *Launch.* *_Detected._*
Nuclear launch detected is the worst. I have a friend who sucks at planetary and his only tactic is spamming nukes so he builds like 10 and it’s so annoying
On the one hand Mass Effect 3 encourages you to explore the galaxy to discover war assets to aid you on the quest to reclaim earth from the reapers...on the other hand, Mass Effect 3 also tells you not to explore too the galaxy for too long as doing so leads to the hellish Inception horns that signify that the Reapers have entered the system you're currently exploring, and they're making a beeline right for you
For me the original Doom had the scariest sounds and creepy music. The heavy breathing of a flesh eating demon as it charges you, the screech of the imp, the roar of Barons of Hell and the heavy thud of the Cyberdemon Lord's steps.
Cunnysmythe No. Cazadors are never fun. They are motherfucking cazadors, demons of New vegas to which we must worship and sacrifice our young to satiate their desire for souls lest we be massacred by their wrathful armies

Used to be so pro-Dogmeat that I hated to have anyone else with me. This new playthrough should be more interesting now.
Adam Gray Cait, Curie, and Nick are the usual suspects for favorite companion. Do you have the DLC's? Automatron is awesome.
Most terrifying noise, you say?
The keys jiggling in the door knob when you forgot to do your chores.
Ellen: Imagine being so conditioned by a noise that you just run towards it whenever you hear it! So silly.
Me: [fondly recalls ice cream man tune]
Ellen: [hears ice cream man tune] ICE CREAM!
Me: Well I wasn't *trying* to predict the video, but...
dear god, you and me both pictured the ice cream truck tune ..... HEY! ELLEN, GET ME A STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE BAR!
I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT AND MENTAL PICTURE!
My first thought would be a mobile phone's jingle.
*twitter whistle*
*everyone checks their phone*
What about the Flood from Halo? In all honesty any sounds the flood makes can be nerve racking because of their tendency to swarm.
Definitely. Particularly when those strings chime in and you go round every corner in an angry panic.
Meh, I don't think it's that bad.
Guilty Spark's incessant humming then telling you it'll right back. Get your damn shotgun out again and hope there's enough ammo!
Plus most of them are in the first half of the game, when your guns are weak and ammo is scarce, which can leave you aching for ammo after an encounter.
half life 2 infected, the ones that his voice cries "kill me, oh god kill me" backwards
Oh God, System Shock 2. The zombies chase you, crying "run!"
The fnaf sound when someone's by the door or the sound of foxy running lol
You mean in the hallway?
@CORN_ZEUS21 i was thinking of fnaf 2
For me is FNAF 4. I don't sure but there is animatronic scream and... screaming of child? I think so? I can imagine that little boy screaming when he's about to get eaten.
Pussy
I'm mainly scared of Freddy laughing, because it means he could easily come into your office to scare the living daylights out of you
How about the shriek of a Big Sister in Bioshock 2? *shudder*
Or in the same Franchise... the Boys of Silence in Bioshock Infinite?
Yup! Or anything involving Songbird! 😂😂😂
the lumbering footsteps of the big daddy
Or the eerie singing of the splicers... yknow just any bioshock enemies
Dude, Yes! That Big Sister screech that makes your screen all fuzzy is terrifying! Especially when you didn't realize you were returning the last Little Sister and weren't prepared.
Any game over screen where the protagonist gives out an agonising screech as they die. *shudder*
Except Trials
Caitlin RC i guess ur not a fan of mortal kombat then lol
The crunching sound you hear when you fall off a building in Mirror's Edge makes me feel a bit sick whenever I hear it...which is often
Caitlin RC - the new Lara Croft games tend to actually make me laugh when she makes her dying sounds, and then I feel very guilty 😅
snake? Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAKE!
Subnautica creature sounds, including Reaper-, Ghost- and Reefback leviathans, Bonesharks, Warpers, etc
Even knowing the noise is from a reefback I still feel like I have to look around
what makes it worse is that you are pretty much ALWAYS within earshot of a reaper. There are 26 spawns around the map, the map is about 2 km by 2 km, and you can hear a reapers roar from half a kilometer away
@@jackwillard4 woah... o.o didn't know that
What, no mention of the Reaper sound from Mass Effect series (the third one in particular)?! That sound is made from nightmares. Sometimes I hear a similar sound in real life from a construction site or the railways, and I immediately look at the skies to see if there are, in fact, Reapers landing.
reapers scary no banshees yes
for real, every time i hear that reaper sound i freak out a little bit. it's horrifying.
rantbird it's scary but it's not like they jump out at you or anything.
Yeah, agree with the other replier. Banshee screams are alot worse just cause of how much of a bitch they are to kill
Existential fear is much more powerful than jump scares.
^ exactly. banshees i can handle, they're an enemy like any other one - all the reaper creatures are rather creepy. but the reapers themselves are still the worst for me. it's not about "jumping at you", it's about the feeling of imminent doom. because honestly, what can you really do against a reaper who can just blast your ass along with half of the city.
Title "7 Terrifying sounds we'll never get out of our heads"
*Proceeds to make a video on it with sound footage*
And shitty jokes
Where's Subnautica's Reaper Leviathan? That howl just exudes this raw, predatory nature which can trigger Nam flashbacks.
PublicServant ikr whenever it chases me I almost pee my pants
How about the Ghost's screech? I still hear it in my nightmares...
Also the reapers are programmed to spawn behind you and roar, THANK YOU SO MUCH DEVS!
The crabsquids chirping is pretty damn terrifying too.
For me it's the call of a warper that gets me going. Reapers may be scary, but you can outrun them in your seamoth. For warpers... nowhere is safe.
No, the crash fish makes me jump.. I fricking hate those things
I like how Jane makes the Jurassic Park joke and in the next entry, Luke has the shirt on.
A xenomorph exiting a vent in Alien: Isolation. That rickety sound followed by a screech causes my poor heart to race every time.
Bose-Einstein I was waiting to hear this one
Followed by the beep
The sound of a coffin bursting open in the final chamber of a dungeon in *_Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)._* As someone who is terrified of Draugr and absolutely hates fighting them, that sound always makes me panic.
Yeah or the fact that it may be a draugr deathlord instead of a normal draugr
Draugr, I can handle. Dragon priests, not so much. Ohh, and when you hear that sound when you're already preoccupied with an ancient dragon.
Grand Kaiju Gamer oml memories of anxiety lmao
@@GremlinSciences Yes! Those are the worst. I still remember the sound of them whirring around a crypt.
Grand Kaiju Gamer i hate all draugr cuz shouts are so loud people next country hear fus ro dah
when you play minecraft: SSSSSSSSSSSSS
Creeper sounds are traumatic
What about the enderman when he's pissed
@@amarmahil2149 don't even get me started on those venomous spiders.
Especially when you're already low on health.
Me : mining peacefully
Creeper behind me : ssssssss
A resource pack I made my friends changes stone and all ores' breaking sounds to a creeper hissing sound. It was fun seeing them try to figure it out as I pretended to not hear it.
The screech of the big sisters in BioShock 2 always set me on edge, especially when I wasn't keeping track of how many little sisters were in a level and couldn't find a vending machine to spend every last dollar on ammo beforehand
I always took that sound as more of a "daddy's home and you're a stranger in his house big sis so be prepared"
The spider may sound worse, but the creeper just reminds you of how terrified you get at that sort of thing.
AGREED. My general lack of self-awareness in video games meant that I usually heard it coming from behind me, and by the time I turned around to freak out, the bloody thing had already exploded.
exactly.
Especially because the sound indicates the imminent destruction of all your hard work, not just yourself.
I know I'm way late but *sound of metal/giant knife being scraped against ground signalling Pyramid Head*
Just...just imagine playing most other games and hearing that noise suddenly.
Me playing any other game: Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
Really, no mention of enemy music? It’s that much more terrifying when there’s no observable enemies in a room.
Yes I stopped playing Skyrim for ages when I first played because the music that started up before the chest in Bleak falls barrow? freaked me out.
What about the BWAAAAAAAAAAAH of the reapers from Mass Effect? Still gives me nightmares...
Ugh, yeah, that one's irritating af. XD
Personally, for me, it is the shriek of the Mass Effect 3 banshees that freaks me out the most. Even if I know how to fight them, I still instinctively fling myself across the room whenever I hear them. In game of course. No way anyone would do that in real life. I most certainly have not.
that only gives me a sense of dread unlike the banshees who make me shudder in fear
I see a commenter's edition coming… or two.
I have an annoying tendency to catch the commenter's edition first most of the time and have had some ideas they still didn't touch on even in two videos. I'm sure they want to keep the content varied but they already do tremendously so the occasional commenter threequel would be pretty cool, actually.
The most terryfying Sound? The Movement of the Xenomorph through Sevastopols Air Conditioning System in Alien Isolation.
Jonas Bauch true ;-;
Very true! ;-) I have always - since I was a kid, been able to see, that movies/games are nothing real, and therefor nothing to be scared about. Alien Isolation though, really scares me very much. It is a VERY cool, scary and well made game ;-)
One of the battle musics from Skyrim played on my Spotify while I was working and I almost fell out of my damned chair.
I actually use that to help understand clinical anxiety. Imagine hearing that constantly and never being able to find the enemy triggering it. That's it right there.
@@danielstephens1185 I never thought of that... I have severe anxiety and it actually makes a whole lot of sense now that I'm thinking about it...
No Sonic drowning countdown? That noise... its already taken years off my life in panic
Not really a sound effect though
Thought I was the only one expecting that, too.
You forgot one:

The sound of those damn mirelurks chasing me in Fallout 4 gives me PTSD.
Being chased by a radscorpion and the sound that it makes gives me some chills
Vaas Montenegro mirelurks give me legit chills.
How about super mutant suicider but you can't see it? I am several feet from each corner every time I hear that noise!
newer broom oh gez yes when I hear one I try and find where it is and if I cant I get scared and start launching my own mininukes everywhere
Try being indoors when you here the suicider
When you cant stop saying nani!? everytime the detected sound plays
"You are in the Fort Zancudo no fly zone. Revert your course"
**incoming missile alarm**
These "jokes" are the scariest thing about this video...
True. Very true.
They’re so bad
Boom roasted
LOL
Yeah this acting just makes me uncomfortable.
Yeah these are scary but have you ever just.... “ssssssssssss” with an inventory of fully enchanted tools and armor?
And that's why I put Blast Protection on at least 1 armor piece
it's worse in modded..... MUCH worse..... there's that damn john cena creeper.....
To be honest the sound I dread the most is the combination of the guardian music and the laser beeping when you get targeted by a stalker in Breath of the wild. It haunts my nightmares
"THiS lOoKS LIKE a GOOd spOT TO FInd SOME INGrEDIEnTS"
The haunting shriek of the Banshee in the Mass Effect series. Just hearing it is bad enough but it's just as nerve racking to fight.
No mention of the Sonic drowning music? I still can't beat stage 2 without watching some Bob Ross videos afterwards.
Niall Deakin Are you trying to give yourself a heart attack lol
Sounds, not music.
Come on, that's not a sound effect (sfx). That's background music (bgm), like nothing from this video is actual game music.
Ronan H "Now there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents."
For shame Outside Xtra. For shame.
when your walking through a dark forest in a game and the music suddenly changes "SHOW YOURSELF"
What’s that from?

All kinds of games,
"The forest"
"Slender"
"The last of us 1&2"
"Blair witch: the game"
"Friday the 13th: the game"

No Banshee scream from ME3?! I make sure I'm always wearing brown trousers when I get to that part of the game o_O
Also the headcrab zombie people in HL2 (*especially* in Ravenholm) are terrifying once you've heard the sound files played backwards...
For me it was always the motion sensor that gets me
When I’m moving around in the vents and I hear that beep, that goddamed beep makes my heart skip 12 beats
While it’s not audio related, I almost dropped my efforts to conquer my fear when the let’s player entered the nest area. I just kind of froze, and slowly put down my phone and walked away.
When I heard the witch I instantly started looking around and startled half of my college
"You Feel A Evil Presence Watching You"

Terraria?
@@alexwhitehead34 yup. thank you for actually knowing
The Eye of Cthulhu has awoken😂
To be fair that isn't a "sound"
_Oh no_
The crying children in Doom 3, the growling of Reaper Leviathans in Subnautica, the motion tracker pings from Alien Isolation... Those will all send me to Brown Alert in seconds.
But none quite generates the instant panic of hearing my personal favorite,
Nuclear.
*Launch.*
*_Detected._*
Ghost leviathans are the worst!!
Oh, god, I hate the Cherubs. Who the hell are designing these baby enemies in games? First Dante's Inferno, and then Doom 3...
I'm pretty sure that those words would send anyone into a panic... But I understand as well.
Wow, the ping from alien isolation is just not harsher than the sound of the alien popping down from a vent near you
Nuclear launch detected is the worst. I have a friend who sucks at planetary and his only tactic is spamming nukes so he builds like 10 and it’s so annoying
Nobody’s gonna talk about the banshees in Mass Effect? Those damn screams terrify me to this day...
Two words. Cazador buzzing
The Hub I know every time I hear that I think oh no!
"FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK" -Me, shortly after that sound
Name checks out
Also I don’t know that sound somehow...
Cazadores are much easier and more fun to kill with a melee build btw
Cunnysmythe No. Cazadors are never fun. They are motherfucking cazadors, demons of New vegas to which we must worship and sacrifice our young to satiate their desire for souls lest we be massacred by their wrathful armies
Thanks for that, I really needed to be reminded of the sound of f*cking cazadores today :)
The drowning music in Sonic the Hedgehog still gives me anxiety.
The sonic drowning music still makes me panic like nothing else
Which also causes me to fail, always
Devin West sound effect, not background music.
Speaking of music, Skyward Sword Silent Realm guardians ... D:
Lukas Østergaard maybe, but when someone asks you what's the most terrifying sound you've ever heard, the first thing that comes to mind or the appropriate response isn't to immediately hum the Sonic drowning music.
Not gonna lie, I love the lame humor on this channel.
Nemesis from RE3 growling : "STARS..." still gives me the chills
Saleem Aldarf nice havent saved in a bit lets go downstairs.... and he crashes the window
I feel the worst sound I have ever head in gaming is the music from the title screen of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Even now, whenever I hear it, I relive the horror of paying £40 for Aliens: Colonial Marines.
This is comment gold.
Joe did you play alien isolation cause THAT'S scarier
Preston Garvey asking you to save a settlement, fallout 4
I felt that on a *s p i r i t u a l* level
In professor Layton series, when something important and intriguing appears, the music stops and then there is a "woosh". That sound still haunts a decade after
