It's a bit weird, but it doesn't haunt me at all. I associate it more with Counterstrike zombie mods. I know it's originally from HL, but zombie mods basically repurposed some of the noises and textures. One of the sounds was just a sign that a zombie near by is on fire, for example.

At least if you're in a Cyclops sub, you might get to hear the "abandon ship" BGM after it attacks the vessel. That song bops way harder than it has any right to in a game like that. Also, If you need some catharsis, get your PRAWN suit equipped with grappler and drill arms, then grapple the monster and rev up the drill. you can (eventually) kill the reaper if you have enough patience.

The Winter Lantern singing in Bloodborne. I was exploring the Nightmare Frontier and there are at least 2 of them in that area. Well, I couldn't find the 2nd one but I could hear her singing. I just noped away from the sound instead of actively trying to find her. Even though I know the one in the Fishing Hamlet can't get me, it was still unnerving to fight those 2 shark bois in the well all while that horrid singing is going on in the background.
Also, the brainsuckers in the Upper Cathedral Ward. I was so disturbed by that noise that's audible through the walls coupled with the music going on that I noped out of there after just a few minutes. I had to grit my teeth and plow through as quickly as I could when I finally worked up the nerve to clear the area. Very few areas in Bloodborne bother me, but the Upper Cathedral Ward is at the top of that short list.
Finally, it's only heard in certain parts of the game, but I absolutely hate the blaring alarms that happen when airships are going down in BioShock Infinite. The first time is when that woman follower sets herself on fire and the ship as well and Booker has to bail out. You can hear that alarm for ages as the ship falls to the earth and it freaks me for some reason.

In Dragon's Dogma, on Bitterblack Isle (the Dark Arisen expansion), when Death is around the music changes to be a sort of ominou drone with the occasional bell tolling, and when you're close enough (but he hasn't spotted you yet) you can actually hear Death making creepy whispering noises. However, the music change can be too subtle to notice if you haven't spent much time in the area, so you might round a corner and unexpectedly come face-to-face with him. There's even a point where it's possible to shortcut down to the bottom of an area by sliding down a watery tunnel...which lands you right on top of where Death normally spawns in that zone if indeed he has done so on that particular visit (it's random). When he spots you, the music abruptly ramps up into "scary urgent chanting and stuff", which can catch you off guard if you weren't aware that the dude with the lantern and the scythe was floating around.

    • @Maniacman2030

Death went from scary to annoying for me, because my Pawns would just continue to wail on him while I was trying to get them away from being one-shotted by the scythe. Part of an annoyance was when >I< was attacking him and he suddenly vanished. Even worse is when I was fighting some enemies I needed to concentrate on(the lizards? I forget), then he'd just pop right in and the only notification I get is one of the Pawns saying, "Death approaches," or something similar.
I haven't been able to beat him _yet,_ but I do know the tunnel trick with the Magic Archer and the ricochet arrows, but even that one was taking me a while to get even ONE health bar down.

There's even a spot where it's possible to one-shot him but you miss out on the loot because said shot is a knockdown shot that punts him off a bridge into the water (entrance of Tower of Remembrance ara), where he instantly dies. He comes back eventually, of course - unlike Grigori, you can't permanently kill him.
