Creating nuclear fuel in Australia would add 'huge value' to uranium

  • Australia Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation former CEO Adi Paterson explains the value added to uranium if Australia were to make it into nuclear fuel locally.
“We could develop the ability to make nuclear fuel, that adds a huge amount of value - about 1000 times to the uranium we send out now in the form of yellow cake,” Mr Paterson told Sky News host Sharri Markson.
“I think it is really important to recognise that uranium is power, all of the lowest carbon-reliable energy in the world apart from hydropower, which is about the same size, and some geothermal energy in places like the north of New Zealand.”

Who gives a f*** what it costs?
Your economy is screwed thanks to Labor anyway. You might as well be sensible and spend what you have left on something that works!
    Pretty simple.

I will vote to the party that supports the nuclear powers. Why not nuclear power to give Australia the power house for energy.

1 kg of coal runs a washing machine for 6 hours. Available 24/7
1 kg of oil runs a washing machine for 9 hours. Available 24/7
1 kg of renewables runs a washing machine for less than 1 hour. Available only when the wind is blowing and the sun is shinning. Nominally 30% of the time in Australia.
1 kg of Uranium runs a washing machine for 2000 years. Available 24/7. WARNING - The washing machine may not last 2000 years.
I wonder which energy source makes sense.

@@DJ-yj1vg batteries as the only backup to wind and solar is pointless as it would require hundreds of billions just for a few hours of power. What the government will not tell us is solar always fails 100% every night across the country and if there is a high pressure system over Australia the wind is insufficient meaning a total failure of the renewables grid ever night the wind is not blowing. You therefore need a backup grid. In effect we are going to pay for 2 grids worth of generating power when only one is required.

How much energy in kg of fuel is petty meaningless. The cost of the power plants that can use the fuel is much more important.

Australia does not have a central facility for the storage or disposal of radioactive waste, which is currently held at more than 100 locations around Australia. Many organisations are using storage areas that were not designed for long term storage of radioactive waste.
Australia, for the record, has no nuclear power industry. But from a high of 17.5 per cent in 1996, the share of global electricity demand supplied by nuclear has fallen to barely half that now.
Both of these must be explained! 🤔
Why would Australia 🇦🇺 go against the trend world-wise when other countries are realising the cost of burying all their toxic, nuclear waste.

Australia have largest Uranium reserve and Australian is not using Nuclear power plant... It is foolish... Like asking Saudi Arabia to don't drive petrol car.
Or asking German people to don't use Mercedes or BMW..
Country must use own resources to prosper own people.. 😇
With electric car electricity demand will go 25X in Australia.
If is it expensive then Vietnam, India, and other countries can afford... 😇
