My only problem is that there was no credit to kiss land in this video. Kiss land has some of The Weeknd's deepest topics and really shows his skill in songwriting. Kiss land is so underrated and I wish more people would show more appreciation for it

It definitely needs to be dug into. I just ran out of time, and so made the purpose of my video to see where he started and where he ended.

I find that in a lot of his songs, the repetition helps to convey a sense of anxiety. House of Balloons is the best example: 'This is a happy house, we're happy here, in this happy house, oh this is fun, fun, fun, fun, fun...' Usually his repetition conveys over-compensation or a conscious attempt to be assertive.

    • @Zach-lc6bs
      @Zach-lc6bs 7 лет назад +5

You should definitely check out his albums/mixtapes. Each one has a very consistent sound but each one is different than the rest. If you like his radio stuff, I'd work backwards through his career.
      Listening order:
      1. Starboy
      2. Beauty Behind the Madness
      3. Kiss Land
      4. Echoes of SIlence
      5. Thursday
      6. House of Balloons
Note: his first three projects can also be found compiled into an album called Trilogy.

I'm a passionated person about French version of discourse analysis e.g. Michel Pêcheux. So, I'm automatically trying to create meaning and deconstruct the discourse behind the lyrics. It was very interesting to me that you analyzed the lyrics (language) in a mathematical way. Two thumbs up! You got yourself a subscriber.

You probably don't read any comments from earlier offerings but this video and then breakdown of his music was amazing and insightful. I think it has to be obvious to most Abel fans that he is genius in both songwriting and lyrics but to see the percentages brings the progression into focus. I know I will get bashed for this but most people who are true geniuses are also a bit sideways. If he was average he could never pull off even one of his songs. The price for his genius is pain and pain is the fountain of his inspiration. My heart breaks for him even as I listen to everything I see of his. By the way just bring my opinion into focus, I am probably old enough to be his mother. But unbelievably chill as I am told by my kids. Best wishes to you all and get ready for the ride Abel will take us on if he can just keep from getting gone.

can you do something like this for paramore? i've always loved hayley william's writing style and something i've noticed is that in the songs that are more personal, hayley tells us multiple times that she finds refuge in dreams or fiction, this can obviously be seen in brick by boring brick. that song is interestingly enough referenced twice on the new album after laughter. brick by boring brick has been my favorite paramore song for a while because of how much i relate to it. compare that song with 26. part ii is also a continuation of let the flames begin. even in the love songs like the only exception, still into you, and pool there's still something else going on that lets out some vulnerability. just some insight put in from a paramore fan. (also my favorite album from paramore brand new eyes is riddled with the feeling of unacceptable or feeling like one doesn't belong, e.g. the song ignorance)

I literally cooperated The Weeknd's style in my song "Coming Out Strong"
In the first verse, I started out by describing how empty my life really is but I immediately brush that aside in the pre-chorus by hinting that I don't need anyone, now that I'm actually getting somewhere
And then I finally hit the nail on the head in the chorus by saying "And I don't give a damn what they say... I'm standin' on top... I'm coming out strong... I'll stand alone and give it all I've got..."
Then in the second verse, I admit to leading a lonely life, but I immediately cover it up by saying that I NEVER REALLY NEEDED ANYONE. And then the pre-chorus and chorus comes in again before the bridge:
"I'm never gonna change for nobody
    I'll always be the same
I'm a nigga with a life so misguided
    But I'm coming out strong..."
The first line of my bridge literally says the same thing as The Weeknd's Real Life from BBTM:
"I'll be the same...Never changed for nothing"
I hope someone does a video of me one day 😁
