This man came from nothing but did not let that get him down. He served his country in two wars and was awarded the Medal of Honor, our country's highest honor. What he did definitly earned the Medal of Honor. I am happy he got to live a very full and long life. Thank You, MSGT Lopez!
Absolutely a wonderful story about a heroic event and the man responsible. But, no disrespect to Sgt Jose Lopez and his heroic actions, but he did not "_win_" this medal, for it is not a competition. This medal is awarded for the selfless sacrifice he exuded. His story is emboldened to the deserving respect this medal portrays. He is one of the few who got to live to represent all those who didn't. RIP Sgt Lopez, lead in spirit now.
Stg. Lopez definitely earned his MOH. Two reasons for the error. I had about five minutes to film the intros for the four MOH recipients due to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery grounds crews began working on landscaping. The supervisor was awesome and stopped the work so I could but had to continue working preparing for two internment services they had scheduled at the pavilion. The second was Grandpa whose grave I had just visited a few minutes before once told me when we talked about his Sliver (from Korea) and Bronze (from Vietnam) and his Purple Hearts. Though proud of the Silver and Bronze said he did what many of his fellow soldiers did but he got rewarded with the medals which got him free drinks at the NCO clubs from others but his Purple Hearts he earned by leaving chunks of himself on the battlefield only to return for some payback. I guess that in my rush film the intros that talk stuck with me and is not intended to disrespect the amazing achievements of these great soldiers. Thank you for viewing this video and I hope you have a blessed New Year.
Thank you for viewing this video and while I agree with your assessment you must understand that this video was made for my students who are majority hispanic for Hispanic Heritage Month. When most of these students learn about figures like Frida Kahlo, Selena, Diego Rivera and others I saw the need to also learn about men like Jose Lopez, Cleto Rodriguez, Lucian Adams and Roy Benavides who all were from our area and all hero’s who served this country with bravery and honor. These men’s stories have been a great inspiration for my students. Thanks again and have a blessed New Year.
Thank you for your service, master Sargent Lopez and may your memory be a blessing to all the lives that you have touched.

An absolute legend. Makes my day to see how long he lived.
Thank you for sharing this man's bravery and the highest medal our country can bestow upon a soldier!
If only our Ungrateful Nation remembered these men every day, and thought about their bravery and sacrifice.
Which is why I started doing these videos for my students. Thank you for supporting this channel by viewing and commenting.
I will forward this on to many of my friends. What a great story, thank you for sharing it with us.
