What I love is that this guy didn't even rate a blip on Bruce's radar. Lucius made him go away with just one pointed question. That's a good executive.
To be fair he did. There was a whole plot point of him going to expose who Batman is and joker ordered him dead, otherwise he would blow up a hospital
@@danzansandeev6033which is great writing. He doesn’t want to know who batman is, does not care at all. Every time joker finds out he goes to some boring normal life
Fox smirking like, “Kid’s got a lot of guts, but not a lot of brains.”
This ''kid'' thing put it like that is so damn funny!
He had to learn the hard way later from being targeted due to others finding out he knows too much.
“If they don’t have brains they have no guts”- The fool (Me)
I feel like there are a lot of people like this. They have figured something out, but have not taken the time to think it trough, or getting a real understanding of it, before acting on it.
@@Telruin, yep! He reached the end of the rainbow but didn’t consider there was a Leprechaun who could kick guarding the gold.
Reminds of the criminals in Arkham Knight saying something along the lines of "Bruce Wayne is *Batman* ?! Next thing you're gonna tell me is, Superman is a journalist or something"🤣🤣
Wait so Superman is actually a journalist?, who knew 😂🤣
This reminds me of an interesting fan theory/canon that suggests that most mid to top tier criminals and villains in DC know who Superman, Batman, and other heroes' secret identities, or have a pretty decent enough idea. But they don't act on it, nor do they allow their underlings to even know, even eliminating those who find out. Simply because if someone did try to use it against said hero, the hero would drop their inhibitions and utterly destroy them and their enterprises.
Its just not good for business to out Batman as Bruce Wayne or Superman as Clark Kent. Wayne and Kent have normal people responsibilities they have to juggle that occupies their time and attention. If that was exposed, they could go full time as their crime fighting persona. Or if they felt threatened, as stated above would go down a path no one, hero or villain wants.
My favorites are the lines that imply that, just because they now know Batman is Bruce Wayne, they could now easily beat him in a fight.
@@taemien9219 makes sense..even criminals knows that there's a need for time to do crime...if the heroes go full time then the criminals won't have the time.
Damn fucking right, f bro, need a comic books based group asap@@taemien9219
A lot of people praise Morgan Freeman for his line delivery for making this scene work as well as it does. But Joshua Harto as Coleman Reese is the linchpin of this scene, and he nails it perfectly. His facial expressions alone convey so much to the audience: arrogance, dawning realization, and understated fear, disappointment, and trying to save face after humiliating defeat. He excellently carries this scene with minimal dialogue, and he doesn't get enough credit for his contributions.
Studying acting in college, students were constantly told “try to make your scene partner look as good as possible.” When both people in a scene like this do that, magic happens, it’s plain to see.
Then he goes and says he knows who Batman is on live TV only to have a bounty on his head if he reviles the name by the bad guy.
The realization of who saved him was just as funny.
Both actors looking at each other saying nothing out loud but their faces saying a lot to each other.
I was scanning through the comments looking to see if someone made this exact observation. I’m glad I found yours, summed it up perfectly 🫡
Absolutely. His transition from mocking the next potential project, the rocket ship, to demanding what it'll take to keep quiet is perfect. His whole dialog feels natural and unforced.
Damn I came here just to say this
I love how this contextualizing the idea that multiple people know who Batman's alter ego is but either realize the danger of telling or have had their lives saved by Batman.
It's pretty much a given.
It's the same with the Mafia and organized crime. Most people know who the bosses are and who did what crime.
Going to the judge and testifying on the other hand, is often so dangerous is basically a death sentence.
So what do you do when you know who the boss of a Mafia is and who he killed.
You shut your mouth and move to another country. And continue life.
I love both implications in this dialogue: 1) It's such an outlandish claim that barely anyone would actually listen to him, 2) If he's actually right, trying to blackmail a guy that can "beat to a pulp" individuals way more threatening than him is probably a very, very bad idea
Also, Bruce can just sue him.
He implied both things lol either he will bear the crap out of you or no one wil buy your story since he has all the influences
That’s only part of the threat. He also mentions how wealthy and powerful Bruce is, he’s basically saying Bruce is going to sue your a** into the ground for defamation, slander, malicious business interference, trade secrets, etc. while using his influence to make sure you are never hired by anyone every again, that is, unless he doesn’t just decides to beat the sh*t out of you in the middle of the night.
@@Nainco07 Or possibly both 😂😂
Or just like, use his immense wealth to hire some fixers.
Sometimes you just have to hear someone explain your idea back to you before you realize that it's stupid.
Reese forgot to factor in that he wasn't blackmailing bruce wayne, but Batman. This was a simple and direct scene but very enjoyable. This sums up what batman can do even when he's not being shown onnscreen.
Bruce Wayne has done such a good job of making his public face such a harmless twit that that's all Reese knew and all Reese considered -- rich idiot messing around, should be easy to push around. But Batman, oh . . . he's a different story altogether and Reese does not want to mess with the Bat. Even knowing intellectually that they're the same person, his brain can't quite catch up until forced to look at what it would mean to blackmail him if it's true.
@@calliarcale and let's not forget that Fox started off with "the richest man in the world" so even if he was wrong, Bruce could still sue him into oblivion, or pay some guys to take him out of the picture
@@tbush6657 "One of the wealthiest . . ."
Perfect, right up until he asked for the money. The right thing was “ I want in. If I figured it out, someone else will. I will clean the books and cover the tracks, and help you. I’m your new executive assistant… oh and I need a raise”.
I can think of only one sentence right now.
"it was at this moment he knew he fked up"
When keeping it real goes wrong.
Another one: "That went better in my head"
Sometimes I forget this civilian still knows who Batman is.
Yes but considering this veiled threat and the fact that Bruce Wayne literally saved his life a little while later probably helped in keeping his mouth shut.
Yeah you'd have to be a super scummy person to have someone save your life and then you betray them, luckily Reese is not the scum of the earth. Though in all honesty who would believe Reese if he said Bruce Wayne was batman.
You see him in the news later spilling the beans, I think in the third movie
It's been a while, it's a background thing
@@Meganought I don't think so, Joshua Harto is not listed on the cast list for The Dark Knight Rises. You might be misremembering the scene later in The Dark Knight where he is on TV and trying to spill it, only to be interrupted by the Joker.
“I’ve made a severe lapse in judgment…”
That was an excellent delivery. He didn’t even say the full word when, but you know it was “when you put it like that…”.
I thought the exact same thing.
A puppy thinking he could play with the big dogs
"Goodluck" that delivery was perfection.😂😂😂
In the end, Bruce Wayne proved himself the better man by saving Reece's life when a vigilante tried to kill him in order "to save the city from the Joker" after the Joker threatened to blow up a hospital if he wasn't dead.
0:43 Riddler face 😮😮
Well that was the theory for a while, had Heath Ledger not died the third movie likely would've been quite different. No one can really say for sure though.
That said, Mr. Reese being the character trying to blackmail Wayne here is very close to, "Mysteries."
“Government telecommunications… what are you doing, building a system to watch over everyone like a giant big brother?” “Brother eye would be more accurate”
Poor Kido Walked into that Office thinking he was going to walk out as a Muti-Millionaire and never have to Work again in his Life… but instead leaves Knowing that he’s still going to have to Work… Possibly look for a new job now and Officially Under Wayne Enterprise’s Microscope for the rest of his life.
Being overwatched by a huge corporation is one thing. Being overwatched by a NOTORIUSLY VIOLENT hiper resourceful vigilante with clear signs of genious intellect is something else entirely.
I would’ve said it differently instead of like black mail
He went in expecting some cash, returned with bullseye painted on his back
"Tell me you didn't think your plans through, without telling me you didn't think your plans through"
The way Morgan said “Good luck”. Savage.
Amused with a bit "please try it."
I love how Lucious doesn’t tell him his theory is wrong but to think it through more clear. You’re gonna blackmail not only a billionaire but one trained in the most dangerous fighting martial arts, and with the most advanced tech available at his disposal…
$10 mil a year? I mean damn, maybe go for a reasonable salary increase
$10mil a year is nothing to Batman lol
That’s fine. Bruce Wayne net worth’s is $10B so even if he lives another 70 years that’s only $700M aka 7% of his wealth over 70 years
@@jd0879and that's assuming Wayne's wealth doesn't grow over those 70 years.
@@professormetal4411Ya exactly
Imagine how much money he could have made of he said he knew who batman is and wanted to help.
Lucius is like: thats the 5th one this week, gets em every time
With that kind of digging and skills of deduction, that guy could have been an asset if he wasn’t such an ass.
Lots of folks like that. Insanely smart .. totally unusable due to their arrogance.
0:57 what a cool callback to HK and Mr Lao and a foreshadow to what Bruce Wayne must do to catch the Joker
The original of "Understandable, have a great day"
No denying it, just "Good luck 🙃"
One of the best articles I've ever read covers this scene and something called the "Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement" or BATNA. Basically, the person who has the most leverage is the one who needs the transaction the least. Reeves never thinks "what happens if they don't agree to it?" and the answer is he ends up mired in lawsuits during the day and running from a vigilante at night. He came in thinking he had leverage, but leverage is the other guy's ability and desire to say "no".
The problem is that even knowing The Secret he hadn't really accepted it intellectually. He KNOWS Bruce Wayne is a rich, harmless twit who pays people off rather than deal with problems the hard way. That's public knowledge.
So blackmailing him seems safe and sensible. But what he hasn't really processed until that moment is that if he's threatening Bruce with the fact he's the Batman...
...HE'S THE BATMAN. And everything he thinks he knows about him is completely wrong.
The retort is such a great "Listen here Son..."
1:40. Love the look on his face. 😆
he had enough intelligence to figure it out but not enough wisdom to know it was a bad idea or enough charisma to pull it off
Marvel “we have a hulk !”
Dc we have Morgan Freeman.
1:32 It was at this point that he knew, he fucked up. 😂
Ya done messed up A-Aron.
the only way out...making him realize how stupid it all sounds when you say it out loud
Every single thing about this movie, every scene, every line of dialogue, every special effect -- literally EVERYTHING -- is so perfectly executed. It may very well be one of the greatest movies of all time, and it's based on a rich kid who dresses up in a costume to punch bad guys in the face while saying "I'm Batman" in an overly-gruff voice.
One of the best days of my life was back in November 2020 when my local Imax showed all three movies from the Nolan Batman films back to back.
I think Lucius Fox actually makes a mistake here. I don’t think man who is attempting the blackmail ever implies that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Only that Wayne Enterprises is funding Batman. It’s Lucius who gives away his identity with his rhetorical summary of the blackmailer’s position.
JoBlo Superheroes, I love your channel so much, I just had to subscribe!
Riddler couldn’t answer the question.
And that is a Masterclass in counter-intelligence 😂
Reese: I want big money
Me: Can I get a BatHug?
Bro really fumbled, I would have asked if I can work for Batman directly like wtf.
I just love the change in expression he has, as he starts to understand what Fox is telling him.
JoBlo Superheroes, You're the best! I just had to subscribe!
oh shit fox technically gave away the missing detail that bruce wayne is batman. the guy only figured out that wayne enterprises made batman's technology
he did say 'what are you making for him now a rocketship? implying that he knows Bruce is using Fox's tech for his batman mission
and even Joker caught wind of Reeses knowledge of Bruce being Batman and that's why he threatens Reese because he's gonna expose Bruce's secret identity
Exactly, this has always bothered me. I mean it is obvious they are giving batman tech but Lucuis confirms Bruce is batman
To be fair, it made very little difference. Even if Bruce wasn't Batman, Bruce could simply claim that his tech was copied or that he was threatened into handing it over. And on the off chance the guy *did* manage to take the case to court, Batman wouldn't be too happy in losing his main source of tech.
Actually, I'm sure, Reese figure it out himself. How could Fox get away using that much money without the boss punishing him... unless he work for the boss himself?
When you roll a 20 on a persuasion check
Or when you roll a Nat 1 on intimidation
Freeman’s delivery was perfect, I love the scene every time I watch the movie!
As long as this machine is at Wayne Enterprises, I won't be.
Good working mans for great heroes make them efforts more easy and Lucius was outstanding.👏👏👏👏
It’s scenes like this that makes this movie the best comic book movie ever
if it were me: "You misunderstand me, Mr. Fox. I'm not trying to sell my silence, I'm trying to sell my services. If Bruce Wayne isn't the Batman, then Batman's been stealing your prototypes, and you'll want to hire me to help shield Wayne Enterprises from legal liability. If Bruce Wayne *is* The Batman, you'll still want to hire me to help shield Wayne Enterprises from legal liability..."
"You don't understand Mr Reese, I am not worried about legal liabilities, I am worried about you since you know what you should not have known. Either you want to live or you want to be a sacrificial lamb for a noble cause. Your choice ".
@@Hari-kx2er "I've done my research Mr. Fox. You can no more frighten me with idle threats than I could succeed at blackmailing Mr. Wayne or The Batman. I was paid to discover such discrepancies, that's what I found in the month covered by my retainer. Do pass my offer along to Mr. Wayne won't you? Oh and keep the file, it'll help you clean up that mess if my offer is ignored."
I remember all the way back when this movie came out, the entire audience burst out laughing at "Good luck."
Great video and upload masterpiece film
"Ya know now that i hear my plan out loud, it does sound pretty dumb. "
Nolanised Riddler haha
My favorite apart about this is this guy never said Bruce Wayne was Batman. He was accusing the company of supplying Batman gear. Then at 1:11 in the clip Morgan Freeman literally tells him Bruce Wayne is Batman!
I wonder if he quit after?

If you pause at 0:44 you notice two funny things
1. The wheel on the tumbler looks like Captain America’s shield
2. The expression on this guys face 🤣🤣
This is what you call a, "Sad error in judgement.".
Morgan Freeman on Morgan Freeman: "That man could read the phonebook, and make it sound interesting."

Coldest line in the movie series.... "Good luck...."
There are lots of sideplots in this movie, most of them go nowhere. This one is the best of them
The positive and negative memes is throwing me off lol . Trying to avoid any misunderstanding .
Que Robert Downey Jr "-Not a great plan."
I forgot how funny this scene is haha
He got the guts. Trying to blackmail one of the richest person in DC lmao
The facial expressions of the black mailer are the best... Also because Morgan Freeman (who can make the ingredients on a box of hair dye sound so soothing), has just lit up your conscience and you realize you are stupid. 🤣
a friend of mine worked with morgan freeman on Glory, my friend was one of the white officers and he said freeman was always polite, respectful saluted when they were in costume but had a mischevious look in his eye that said "just 'cause i call you so don't think you're better than me."
...and that's why Coleman Reece was going to be The Riddler in the final movie (before the death of Heath Ledger). He figured out the greatest riddle of them all...the identity of The Bat-man, but had nowhere to go with it. Mister Reece...say it fast...Mysteries!
* FIRST of all, it should be a magazine, and not a clip.

I like the part where he pulled a fingerprint off of bullet shrapnel in a brick he eyeballed as a match.
Our Universities are putting them out all the time, just like this guy.
I've gotta kind of hand it to Reese, he did go through with his claim that he would oust Wayne.
He Must have realizes even If Nobody believes him getting famous by makig the Claim Is enough to get a sweet book Deal or whatever
@@ZgermanGuy.
I was under the impression that he mostly just believed it to be right.
@@dubbekingyou're right, the movie makes it clear that Reese was likely going to keep his mouth shut until people started dying at the Joker's hand, and the casualties continued to mount because Batman wouldn't turn himself in/give into the Joker's demands. He decided that he could bring an end to the killings if he went through and exposed Batman anyway. (Haha, no). So he arranges to expose/divulge Batman's identity with a news station. However this would spoil the Joker's fun, because then Batman wouldn't have a reason to submit himself/give into the Joker of his own free will and choice. So to prevent this, Joker tells the public to kill Reese before he can "spoil all the fun" or he'll blow up a hospital. In an interview scene with a news guy, that is advertising the future interview, Reese is shown saying that he planned to keep quiet, and hoped Batman would do "the right thing", but can't wait anymore. He tries to expose Batman, believing that he has a moral obligation to do so, or at least that's the public justification that he's giving for it. (Based on his characters other actions in earlier scenes like this one there are certainly other motivations like wanting to gain fame or wealth from exposing Batman that also probably feed into his decision, but the character only claims a moral obligation. However, if this was his only motivation he might've done it less publicly/more securely, by pre-recording his expose and sending that to the news, while also preparing it to be released online with some kind of dead man switch, so that even if his live interview failed/was covered up the evidence and testimony would still be released to the public. So perhaps there is some merit to the belief that he also did it for fame/wealth, and was counting on the publicity a news interview would give him, more than a secure leak.)
If that employee was smart, he would've laid low and sold that information to the highest bidder.
Right, because said bidder won't delete him AFTER getting that info...
I love that this could explain that there are people who figure/know Bruce Wayne is Batman, but they're smart enough to not claim that
Realistically you would never believe bruce is the batman but more likely bruce or other wealthy people are funding him.
1:15 you think ur client is secretly the highest bigdaniff?
I just love the look on Morgan Freeman's face as this punk makes his demands.
IDK, then again 10 million dollars a year is probably nothing to Bruce and Batman doesn't kill people. But this guy won't call Fox's bluff.
He really didn't think this through did he
its not humourous scene... but i am laughing my stomach out... 🤣
Lol something so outrageous and yet true
Batman disarms criminals through ninjitsu and judo. Fox disarms criminals through witty comments.
has anyone else noticed this: EVERY Dark Knight video on youtube is a lot quieter than vids from other movies. Whats the big idea? Was Dark Knight intentionally quieted down by creators or somerthing?
Ah, back when writers could actually write something.
Morgan !
Most people know. They are safer suppressing Batman's alter ego.
Goon that found Batman in a room in the animated series is smarter.
Morgan Freeman is a treasure to mankind.
The sudden jump in volume at the end or low volume for the video clip, made that one annoying.
He is capable of all those things, and your choice is to blackmail him? lmao
He knew, any one try exposed batman is dead by super villains 😂😂😂
I never understood why Fox thinks it's also accusing Bruce Wayne of being Batman? He seems to clearly just think Wayne enterprises is assisting Batman. Fox is the one that brings Bruce into it, he could still threaten him without giving away that it's Bruce
That’s a fair critique. Fox should have charged him for his time.
They did not introduce the hell bat armour in any of the movies....🙃
The bullet in the brick scene probably makes the least sense in a movie about a guy who calls himself “Batman”
