  • The raised beds are being built in my off grid greenhouse and will contribute to my self reliance. I'm excited to see what types of food I can grow and how productive it will be in this northern forest setting. Arctic Acres has successfully tested these greenhouses in the arctic so I am really looking forward to seeing what it can do here.

you mentioned on the other channel how many watch for the cabin build and not so much for gardening! I'm here to say I enjoy watching you creating all the parts to a homestead equally ! I can see that greenhouse being a game changer and the sand points as well !

To me, this part of his life, wasn’t well planned. I came in last weekend and it still looks the same. I well I know from my own life that it takes so much time & energy. My fianacée and I currently live in Brampton but she retires in a few months so we're selling and moving to Brockville. We're looking for a home with property. Right now our yard has a small above ground pool, screened gazebo, two large raised garden beds 4' X 24' and one 3' X 16'. We have a large currant bush for jellies and a grape arbor that provides enough fruit for at least 3 litres of moonshine brandy.
By moving out of the city, we can go bigger and better. I'd love to build my own place but at 69, not feasible anymore. But I'm living vicariously through you so my hats - yes, I have many - off to you my friend.

One thing I would recommend is to not put soil all the way to top of the beds. The plants grow so fast and so tall so give yourself some space for that growth. I also built a trellis to grow the cukes and the cherry tomatoes up and they are hitting the top of the dome now. Happy growing! 🌱👍

I wish he gave a better view of the layout. The running water went where. What was that hella deep hole with the white pipe for. We didn't really see the full pool for the goldfish. And how did that water relate to the water for the greenhouse. For holding the heat? Or for watering. The woodwork and beds looked great, but besides that, I had questions.

Shawn, You're like Matt Damon on Mars in that dome! I had a thought about the deer fence. Build the perimeter out of live trees. Strip them where they stand and join them together. It would be a wonky perimeter, but there would be less post hole digging. I say this as there is a 15th century Hall near where I grew up and such was the need for shelter and a defensible structure when they acquired the land that they scouted out four oaks set in a rectangle and built the hall around them. 600 years later we visited their temporary structure! Can't see your 360° view, so might not be appropriate. Like the soil heating system. Regards Stephen.

@@PrimeDirective101 That's what Shawn said - it was because he was a popular youtuber, they were singling him out. My guess is, they think youtubers won't do anything crazy to deal with them, in case they ruin their reputation. But his old neighbours don't know anything about the new owners, so will tend towards caution. Don't know, who they know - you know. 😉

We always add some cat litter to our flower beds as it is a way of releasing water back into the bed when it is starting to dry out and the plants lover a bit of clay added to the soil. It doesn't have to be fullers earth but it does help.

She seems very happy there and continues her playing fetch and exploring. When finished your whole family will gather and celebrate what you have done and hopefully you too can kick back and enjoy.
Thx for continuing with this channel so we can once again follow your build. It's a great thing!!! Catcha again soon...

It's good to see that rotting wood and bark etc being recycled as growing medium for your raised greenhouse beds, Shawn. Good also to hear that you don't have ticks on your property as I hear that they can give a lot of grief to long-coated dogs. Friends in New Hampshire used to have go over their big dog's coat very carefully after he'd been outside.
