I just saw a similar question below. Must be better quality your getting and whomever is setting them. A video on sharpening and setting would be great:)
Excellent Allan. We still hand shear here in the Outer Hebrides; what make are your shears, and where can I get them. Burgon and Ball are rubbish now; the set is always wrong, badly made and they won't cut bugger all. The old Sorbys were good, but you can't get them. Many thanks mate:)
Sorry I never saw your message before John. I still use Burgon and ball shears but they certainly take more work to get them running than they used to. I would love to come out and do some blade shearing in the outer Hebrides when I'm in Scotland next year.
On a tour of New Zealand earlier this month, we listened to first a talk about sheep and shearing, and then a blade shearing and a power clipper shearing by Allan's dad. He's the same way. Both these fellows know their trade inside-out and upside-down and are passionate about it. Their passion shines through their narratives. I was the first one off our coach, and Phil was the first person I saw. My first impression was something like, "This guy looks a little rough around the edges. I wonder what his story is." but after my warm greeting, his intense eyes warned me to not judge a book by its cover. I can only wish that my college professors had communicated even half as clearly Phil did when he gave his talk and demonstration to us. For me, the hour or so we spent there was probably the top highlight of a tour with many other memorable moments.

Impressive that he can shear AND give a talk at the same time!
