- Everyone wants a Compact SUV now , and manufacturers are doing their best to add SUV elements to cars in any segment. Maruti executed a rebranding excercise on the Ignis and called it an SUV , while the Polo , Celerio , Etios Liva , Ertiga, Tiago etc all got claddings added on and tried becoming SUVs , Tata has gone the extra length to ensure their latest offering , the new Tata Punch has more than just a few styling elements to give it an SUV character.
Has it worked? Can it go up against the Ignis, Magnite, Kiger, WagonR, Triber etc? And does it have what it takes to take on the competition in the tough hatchback space? Watch our review to find out this and more !

Tata is someone who take criticism positively, it is because they really want to improve there product & service .Since they sell there product by using nationalism they have huge responsibility to the customers also. Another thing is they have been trying hard to separate the commercial vehicle segment from there car segment & trying to sell the marketing/sales/service to a able third party. If this happens Tata need only to worry about introducing new cars & the other partner will handle the marketing/service/after sales etc which is also beneficial to customer.

Nice presentation on the review of punch.. Kudos to you guys.. Eventhough Tata is bringing out new products.. They must improve the after sales as many people have complaints regarding their service centres... they should prioritise on to after sales as well as give proper training to the service personnel regarding EV as well as ICE..

Actually, yea... Punch ne kaanumbol it does remind me of KUV 100. Aa vandi de oru importance annathe market miss cheythu. Punch nte awkwardness in side profile KUV share cheythittund... I think that's a design limitation when trying to fit an SUV body into a small form or sth...

Nice review. Just one suggestion. If the front grill was a honeycomb mesh instead of the black plastic plate ( black portion around Tata logo) it would have been much better. Thanks
@talkingcars - pls do a test drive of Taigun and would likely to know your opinion on its quality , interior quality ,lack on under engine cover for protection from stones etc

Wanted to know about it from the Maestro....
Just like Germany exclusively had their own brand Volkswagen, India has Tata Motors. Both share a lot in common. 1. Great Build Quality, 2. Lot of issues in the starting stage 3. The feeling of nationality and safe'ness we feel in these both brands.
What about driver seat visibility and seat height? I sat on driving seat of both TIAGO & PUNCH cars and felt TIAGO better.Being a micro SUV it should have had better driver seat visibility than at least TIAGO. I don't know if my feel is correct. Expert opinion expected.

Best part of ignis is its refinement.. its engine is butter smooth.. I've driven all together 72000 kms not even a single complaint from any of its mechanicals or body parts.. I feel ignis is built like a tank.. im gonna keep ignis for pretty long time. im using volkswagen too driven 36000 kms its abs sensor gone 4 times in 3 years one sensor cost about 5000 and above excluding labor.. steering rack gone which costed me 14000 that also excluding labour.. tata punch 👊 after testing by autocar 0 to 100 figures are really bad.. it took 19 sec to reach 100.. overtaking an auto also will be difficult .. where as ignis takes 12.45 sec ... 3cyl engines are worst you have to work through gears ⚙ really hard to maintain speed and its unrefined.. main usp is its mileage but mileage will fall down significantly if car is fully loaded or while driving fast that's the problem with 3cyl .. ac also strains its power in a bigger margin.. I've driven 3cyl eon and I hate it.. everything else about Tata punch 👊 🙂 is superb tata should have given a turbo charged four cyl engine with more torque. Then it becomes a complete package 📦 and will be total fun to drive machine.. 🚗 🙃 🛻

One of Tata's main problem is their petrol engine and their below par service. One of my relative had a Tata zest petrol which just completed about 50k odo but the problems with the car are never ending and he is just keeping the car at home because he says it's better to keep it at home than running it to avoid another service center visit. He is unable to sell it due to the very low resale value. I hope the new petrol engines are much more reliable than the old ones. If you could give us an idea on how good and reliable the new Tata petrol engines are it would be great.
The service issue still remains but AFAIK the newer Tata cars (Tiago, Nexon, Altroz, etc.) don't have engine problems.

Excellent point about that Suzuki K12, I'm a strong believer that Suzuki petrol engines are the best. Even the K15 in the Ertiga, so drivable and fuel efficient!
K12 is the best NA engines ever designed . Especially Suzuki gave it correct update according to the country and market demands .
I think it will fill all alphabets 😂

While taking nothing away from those excellent engines, the performance is also a function of the cost cutting + weight savings each generation. Cars get big, but they are lighter. And that shows up in safety, ride etc. Something goto give!
No one can even vome close to k12 series engine.Suzuki are expert in making of petrol engines.🔥

At 21.00... BOLT didn't come with an AMT gear box. Only Zest came with F Tronic gearbox which was an AMT.
