Rory Gallagher - What In The World

- Album: BBC Sessions 1999 Buy: amzn.to/2HCgsVA Lyrics: What in the world,
What in the world am I gonna do?
What in the world,
What in the world am I gonna do?
My best girl packed up to leave me,
She knew I did not want her to.
Yeah...
See me early in the morning,
Crying last thing at night.
See me crying early in the morning,
Moaning last thing at night.
My woman packed up and leave me,
I can't do a thing right.
Where in the world,
Where in the world am I suppose to go?
Where in the world,
Where in the world am I suppose to go?
I'll find someplace,
I'll be sure to let you know.
Yeah...
What in the world,
What in the world am I gonna do?
Where in the world,
Yeah...that's right, right
What in the world am I gonna do?
My best girl packed up and leave me,
She knew I did not want her to.
Knew I did not want her to.

Rory and Stevie Ray play directly to the soul!!! Beautiful!!!
Walt Richardson "I still miss . . . Stevie Ray Vaughan". Would have loved to have seen him live
One of the greatest guitarists to have ever played the guitar. This is mind-blowing!!
Il est le meilleur d après jimmy hendrix
Listed as the 57th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

57th in the world
They got it wrong

Rolling Stones is full of crap! rating wise...
Top 5 or 10. Jim
Top 3 in my magazine Sticking Water
I think SRV is No.1 for me , but man I'd loved to have seen em both on stage at the same time. Not a pissing competition, just an appreciation of skill and talent.
Both amazing, along with a few others.
I think my top 3 is SRV, RG & BBK
The fact Rory & Stevie never played together is a crying shame! My top 2 all day
Mine two, both such 'feel' players, it would have been mesmerising.
Different sides of the magnetic pole...
I swear I have tried so hard to love Stevie, but I fail all the time!
Not because of lack of will, but it doesn't tickle my balls... I'M REALLY SORRY!
But this.... I have no words for this!!!
@@Onionbaron if you dig this watch Stevie ray 1982 Montreux Dirty pool, or 1985 Montreux Tin Pan Alley. Both very gritty songs like this one

So very different, a result would mediocre, they were themselves 100%!
Ps. I have tried so hard to like SRV, but sadly my soul is completely blank to his music,,,
I am 59 yrs old now, grew up listening to Rory, Still one of the best ever!!
I found Rory to be such a master he could have a big band and yet he chooses a 3 piece and still shines no matter who’s playing with him. A star for sure ❤
The attention Rory received from his loyal followers, throughout his career, was probably all the recognition he needed. Not a man for stardom or filling arenas where the music doesn't come into its own.
Most incredible live performer I’ve ever seen. In West Germany, 1972, at a small movie theater in Ludwigsburg with a stage. My mates and I went out to hear some music, no idea what we were in for. I was a southern kid, a fan of the Allman Bros, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie. I’d never heard of RG. Three guys came out, no warm up, and Rory took the roof off the place. That night has remained a vivid memory for more than fifty years. I’m blessed to have seen him. He left us way too early.
Just imagine that massive gig in the sky what it must be like ✨💥 together all the great guitarist we have sadly lost
Thanks for the comment! I love reading these!

I love since I’ve been loving you - Led Zeppelin but this has to be the greatest blues rock song ever recorded
I'm a Zep strong fan, and SIBLY is probably my favorite tune of them, and one of my favorite song ever.
I heard Rory's song yesterday for the first time, and I've been literally blown away.
Another blues masterpiece I may suggest you to listen is "The mists of time" by John Mayall, as well as his early albums

There's no need to talk when this guitar strikes in. Any irrelevant sound is almost forbidden. Words are not enough to describe Rory❤ just let him bring the storm and make you forget how to breathe...
The world misses you, stay peaceful.

I've NEVER HEARD OF THIS GUY!!! OMG thank you so much for some of the history. He was one of the greats, that is clear from the first few notes. Yes, his playing and your posts made me cry too. I hope he didn't die in pain.

I saw an interview on Brian May's Tone. He emulated Rory from a young age & asked how he got his Sound. Simple answer is a treble booster at the beginning of his effects chain,as also Brian May uses, play heart & soul.

This guys definitly underrated! As a singer and guitar player! Why isnt he mentioned with the boys? clapton srv and jimmy? hes got that magic his note picking is great!
Unfortunately, numerous blues greats seem unfairly overlooked. Johnny Winter is another of these.

@james bradshore: Wow, I'm just jealous of you...I'm too young (relatively..), coming from germany and had not got the chance to see Rory earlier than 1991 in a gig which was in the near of munich. This guy was spreading the truth while he was playing. Thanking the Lord that people like Rory or Peter Green and much more (e.g. Alvin Lee, Jack Bruce, Steve Marriott, ...) gave us such fantastic stuff for surviving every day and week...and will us help to live on.... you've really got six brothers and all together you hooked to Rory's gigs ???? Damn good! Damn well need that🤠
You've got amazing music, Sounds much like led zeppelin's since i've been loving you
Led Zeppelin is my favorite band, but they plagiarized a lot, especially earlier in their career. After 10 years of being a fan I still accidentally stumble across what they took from. From what I can tell this was a Don original.
Tough to say that anyone who plays blues based music is original. People shit on Zep because its cool but no one cares about other blues musicians stealing songs and lines.
Sean Oxton People tend to shit on Zeppelin because they never credited anyone for their music which is pretty much them saying that they have done it first
You're right. Sounds totaly like Since I've been loving you
Raj Geriya it’s cause of the drums
Good lordy he's badass😁🍺
I live a few miles from his grave and every June 14th I visit him and have a beer with him.

I've seen Rory in Kaiserslautern shortly after he released his first Album.
The foregroup was Nazerth and after one or two songs, the crowd startet to shout Rory Rory Rory louder and louder.
With total luck my pale and I were sitting in the front row and could see how Mcgaffertry getting more and more annoyed. We expected any moment to be hit by his guitar. They stopped their show, nowadays I feel somehow sorry for them and Rory came in through the backdoor, he found his way hopping through the totally crouded audience jumped on the stage tuned his guitar and...
What happened then no words can convey it.
I remember Rory´s gig in KL ! Caught a glimpse on him as he passed the waiting crowd. He was not a tall man, but I recognised his face and his long hairs. Always respected him as a great singer and guitar artist.Today with fine weather outside I choose a sampler "WHISKEY BLUES" Great musicians of Blues anyway - but suddenly I heard his voice and this song! Incredible. I repeated and repeated and put the volume to maximum , the whole small village in Pfalz must have listened to the music as intensely as me...RIP Rory Gallagher - I´m jealous to the people who followed him on every step he made...Klaus Schäfer; DO YOU REMEMBER THE DATE OF THE GIG?It is likely we attended the same!
I´ve been working for Z-Concerts these days and I suppose RG did more than one gig in Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern ( An die Vorgruppe habe ich keinerlei Erinnerungen)
Nazareth as a foreband... Well Rory deserved it...
The gig took place in a fairly small hall called Blumenhalle, they might have auctioned flowers there or put them on sale.
I don't remember the date, but somewhere in my basement there is still the original ticket, maybe I should go and search for it.
Rorys concert was a mindopener for us kids those days, even more as Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer had performed same place in 1970 sometime before.
@@klausschafer6752 The gig's place was called 'Landwirtschaftshalle' , more prosaic name than 'Blumenhalle' - something like 'Farmer's exhibition hall'
@@Pilgerfahrer Horchemol, die Landwirtschaftshalle, was a rather square building. No way for Rory to enter through the backdoor like Rory did. There was only a side door.
Still Canned Heat, Led Zeppelin, Atomic Rooster had performed there in those fantastic days.
Jimmy is that you...? hold on, you sing... So, you just wanted to introduce us Robert?
Rory, Gary Moore and Phil Lynott. The holy Trinity of Irish musicians. All gone now but their music brought great joy to the world.
Doesn't get any better than that!
No there not still here, and they are all one and the same dude. 😅
Jimi Hendrix was asked, “How does it feel to be the worlds best guitar player”, Jimi said, “ Ask Rory Gallagher”!

Jimi and Rory always used te wisest of words when they spoke which they learned for their total dedication and very hard work, They sold their lives to their music so we could enjoy their music forevermore. God blessed Rory & Jimi, I was told by a person in the know that Jimi & Rory were and are Gods most favorite rocking guitar players along with Phil Lynott who is his most favorite songwriter/story singer, it must have something to do with those 3 boys Celtic blood
EXACTLY
Rory Gallagher and the boys in his band are completely to blame for my six brothers and I have to live with a bad reputation all of those years. We followed Rory and his boys from the very early days from town to town and got to see them play many many times (not enough times) all over the lands. We stayed out late, come home early mornings, went to work and talked about nothing but a rocking gig that we saw the night before. Our dear neighbours were very concerned about the reputation that we were getting, they said we were rockers and blues boys and we were up to no good, we were long hair and that we would all wind up in jail. So far none of us have never been inside of a jail, but we still have all of Rory's albums and we played all of the time.
james bradshaw ... what a beautiful way to live🤘. Wish I would have been to One concert. I know nothing much about blues... but I’ll love Rory forever. Also, this was a brilliant write up ! Made me feel like I was there !!! So, Thanks
@James Bradshaw, what a great life you and your family had!
@@alancanham2956 thank you Alan, We were the very lucky people to have got to see Rory and his band play many times, I can recall each and every gig and concert, they were all brilliant and different, Take care
I am certainly jealous of all the times you saw Rory playing live, I only had the privilege to see him play once in 1973 in Rotterdam. It was in the time of the oil crises and the Dutch gov't had commanded that people were not allowed to drive a car on Sundays, due to gasoline shortage. So we all had to go back by train, for this was a late night gig. When Rory and the band heard about this, they played until the first trains would leave the stations, with only twice a half hour of rest. It was the best concert I have ever been to. After the gig had ended me and my friends walked to the trainstation. When we arrived there was a crowd of almost 150 people who had to go our way too. We lived about 150 km from the place where Rory played. We all got in 2 train compartments, all Rory fans, singing his songs out loud, sharing sandwiches, fun cigarets (in those days smoking in the train was allowed) and drinks. Funny I remember all that happened that evening so well. One of the best experiences of my life. The trip home had never seemed so short.
@@DirkjeA thank you for your kind message, Yes my 6 brothers and I got to see Roy and his band play lots of times, we would never miss a Rory concert, no 2 gigs were the same, Rory appeared changed his playing each night, different yet the say if you know what I mean, again thanks and take good care of yourself
This could go for another 30 minutes and I'd still be into it - fantastic.
Wish it would !

This song shows how Rory connected with the emotion of the Blues; his wistful playing is very rare today.

please dont say hes under rated .hes one of the most lauded and influential guitarists of all time .
I'm nearly 40, only heard of R.G this last month.
I don't know much about music, but he sounded ahead of his time, which might explain why I'd not heard of them until now.
Some guy named Jimi basically said Rory is the best, when folks say under rated that just tells me they have no clue. They weren't around back then. He was on at all the bars I went to.
You mean don't say he's overrated. The greatest guitarist ever & a truly modest gentleman: no rock star excess or posturing. Saw Rory in the National Stadium Dublin New Year 72.
Why can't appreciation be appreciated?
Some artist will be talked about for way longer than they deserve for half ass lyrics and sloppy unoriginal compositions. While some artists like Rory will leave too soon and offer so much. I don't think it's a crime at all to call and guitarist under appreciated.
So who cares.
I'm confident my point stands though. He faded away. He definitely isn't as appreciated as he deserves to still be. Just like muddy waters, howling wolf, and bb king.
Absolutely right 👍
My favorite blues player. Other than BB King this guy's tone was unreachable. What a talent. Just listen to that tone, man. Goddann

Rory and Peter Green. The greatest white blues guitar men.
Was recently in Ballyshannon to pay my respects to Rory and see his statue in the center of the town, the best ever blues guitarist, be proud Ireland ❤❤
I was extremely privileged to interview Rory Gallagher for CBC Radio One back in 1973 here in Calgary.
One of the nicest, most soft spoken, and truly humble gentlemen in the business. He was just so easy going, pleasant and down to earth with his trade mark plaid shirts, jeans and all. Refreshingly real.
I recall being a bit shocked by how old, weather beaten, rusty, and paint stripped his fender Stratocaster guitar really was. That kind of blew me way. "You're not going on stage with that beat up old thing are you?" Lol. "Yup. Every night. That's my baby...you'll see". You see - for Mr. Gallagher it was just "the" tool to get the job done right with. His chosen tool for the rough trade that he was in. No need for it to be all polished and shiny like. Tone and feel is what mattered. And with Blues being a very emotionally raw, no bullshit, and honest medium, it all fit together perfectly. This working man's music came alive in those hands of his like no one we'd ever heard before. (Or since for that matter.) When he picked that thing up and plugged it in- magic started exploding everywhere. Shivers on top of goose bumps all day long. Lol. Absolutely brilliant.
Needless to say, we got along superbly throughout the process. Rory was a natural conversationalist which made my job as a rock journalist so much easier. He was the furthest thing from the typical egotistical prima donna that I was so accustomed to dealing with. Refreshing is the word.
Is it any wonder then, that his popularity has enjoyed such remarkable longevity? Still a mighty force to be reckoned with well into the 21st century.
This Irish blues legend lives on in our hearts and minds. No doubt about that as evidenced here once again today. All you have to do is read the posts below. That should tell you something. He's still missed by millions of adoring fans worldwide.
There once was a Rory Gallagher and there once was a Jimi Hendrix. Two sides of the same coin. Both immutable and immortal.
So let's raise a pint shall we? RIP Rory Gallagher!!!. And thanks so very much for the great music, memories, pictures, and especially those old CBC audio tapes that I shall cherish forever.
Till death comes to reunite us once again brother!. Cheers and God Bless!
So believed to your spoken. A gentleman!
