- Grappling with a near-death experience, you are calmed down when a kind soul decides to help you, aiding in your rescue. When the authorities arrive, you turn around to thank them, but there’s no one there. Sounds familiar?
The third man syndrome is actually a shared human experience, where an invisible entity is there for support and guidance in dire situations. So, why is this such a common theme? How did people experience it?
Let’s get into it!

So l had this happen as a child.
I was actively drowning, and began to panic, as someone had pushed me in the deep end despite repeated warnings not to from my mother because I was a weak swimmer.
It hurt the whole time, and I began to feel sleepy. Suddenly, I couldn’t see her, but I heard a friend of mine right in my ear, the way she had been when she was trying to teach me to swim. It’s been 21 years and it still sounds clear as a bell in my head.
“Stop panicking. Open the book, tear it in half, throw it down. Kick kick kick. You’re almost there. Control your breathing when you surface so you don’t panic again.”
I surfaced, the lifeguard blew the whistle, my mother snatched me out of the pool before he could get there. I kept telling her “Vicky helped me!”
I have no relatives named Vicky. My friend Vicky moved away earlier that year, and I haven’t contacted her since.
So if you ever went by the name Vicky, lived in Virginia Beach, and taught a girl named Erica to swim, thank you. You saved my life.
I hope you two will meet up again. So glad you survived❤
🥹 what a beautiful story💛 So glad you made it out of that situation.
So nice
this is genuinely heartwarming

I watched a story yesterday about a 6 year old girl who was lost in the wilderness. She said that a 4 year old girl had helped her stay safe for the 3 days it took to find her. She described what she looked like, her clothes and name. But no one was there. Crazy story
Oh, my god! A young 6 year old girl lost? That would have been bad! WOW.
@supertom2316 yes. She was also last seen near 250 ft bluffs with a river below. When she was found, she was down following the river. Her "friend" had guided her to a safer way down and told her to follow it to a bridge where there was a gas station. Her "friend" helped her find berries (I think it was berries) and shelter. When she was found, she was 2 miles down river and a little dehydrated. The official search teams didn't look at the river and concentrated on the woods. It was 2 locals on mules who went down there and found her. This just happened in 2000 or 2001. Wild

Imagine seeing a person who wasn't there saving your life, but years later you meet the person who looks like the "third person".
One sentence horror stories? 😮😅
Or a “fated” romance story :D
Reminds me of Zeke and Michaela from manifest lol
I think to make things more creepy is if the 3rd person was an 8 year old. And 10 years later you find someone that looks exactly like the kid, down to the age it's self. If the 3rd person realy was actually there with you, the kid should be 18 by now. They weren't even born yet when you first had the experience.
Thats called "witch craft" 🧙♀️ ... have fun with that sh*t! 😂
I wonder if this is connected to imaginary friends? We typically just write it off as a normal imaginative play, but maybe some kids are experiencing a form of third man syndrome.
Most of what we call play is just less consequential ways to practice skills that are involved in the survival of the species. I'm convinced that the "third man" phenomenon & "imaginary friends" are instances of the same thing.
I hadn’t even connected these things in my head but it makes perfect sense now that they could be a form of the same thing.

Thank you for being respectful on this topic, Brew. I’ve seen takes on near death experiences that are incredibly insulting to anyone who’s actually been through them, so thank you for not trying to mock it or rationalize. It can be hard enough to share something like this when you know people will just say you’re crazy, or you imagined it. Thank you for not adding to that.

agreed! imho, a supernatural experience is no less meaningful and important when it has a rational explanation. the line between psychology and spirituality isn't as fine as people think
Had a similar experience when I was a child, I was playing at a public pool with my family. Once I went to a slide without my parents to a 1 meter pool (I was smaller than that at the time it was too deep for me), and I was drowned. I remember trying to grabbed anything with my hand, when suddenly I felt a leg. I pulled the leg and my head came to surface then I shout for my mom. When I was taken to safety I told my mom I pulled someone's leg and asked her whose leg it was. She said I was in the middle of the pool with no one near me. I was actually floating/swimming to surface on my own. It was my first time going to a pool, I didn't even know what's swimming.😅

I’ve had an intense experience with this “third man syndrome” years ago in my college days. Heavy depression. Dark thoughts. She came to me in a dream. She was an Asian girl with long black hair and straight cut bangs, looked about 12 years old. She was wearing a bright white dress. Never seen anybody like her in my life. She embraced me and said, “everything is going to be alright.” The moment she touched me I felt engulfed in the warmth of 1000 suns all at once. Every sad thought I had vaporized. I don’t remember the exact words she said because I was so overwhelmed, but she said our souls are bonded forever and she is waiting for me, but now is not my time. She said she had to go and I’ll never forget when she turned around she had soft rays of light emanating from her upper back that distorted the air around them. Since that day not once have I felt depressed.
If any of you ever have this “third man syndrome” ask them for a hug. As soon as they touch you it will be absolutely life changing.
When I was a little girl I remember my parents fighting. I was hiding behind the couch crying. A young man who was always there when I was upset hugged me. I could always see him, but he was see through & he was only around when I was alone or no one could see him. At 16 I dreamt of the boy. Said he was miscarriaged on Halloween 5 years before I was born. A few days later my mother unexpectedly told me that & I told her I already knew & she was really freaked out
Hey, I had a similar experience! Also in a dream, and there were a few of us sitting around a campfire at night. She was sitting opposite the campfire and starting singing a song that had lyrics along the lines of "You're doing great." and "Everything is going to be okay." and I just woke up crying. I couldn't see what the person looked like since the only light was from the campfire and my vision was on the fire.
The fact that my friends sister looks kinda like that-

I fell of the stairs but I felt someone holding my arm. When I turned around to say thank you *no one was there helping me*
Oh that’s so frogged, that’s freaky because you were probably like, not blinded or anything. I saw someone who said they were drowning but someone saved them, but you weren’t blinded or anything.
Or you were, I don’t know
This reminds me of one time I was showering and needed a towel but didn’t have one. I searched everywhere and there was nothing there, 100%. I remembered that I forgot to bring it in, turned around for one second and when I looked back, the towel was right there. My mother even said she saw it hanging in my room just a second ago.
When I was five, I had a very traumatic life and my brain developed another person to help me through it. I’m certain she would’ve been temporary like the ones in this video, had the trauma been temporary too. Eventually, she was joined by more people with each new trauma I/we went through. The proper name for my permanent helpers is called dissociative identity disorder, in which the brain creates another person/presence to get through a traumatic event, and that person/presence stays permanently following the event. It’s comforting to know that other people have helpers too, albeit for a short time.
I can understand multiple personalities developing but what about actually seeing them as seperate people in the world?
😇At first I won't dare to talk about 'Nahida' much (I just know her name when I ready 40). After I saw many people experience something similar to me. So it seems to be normal to talk about what my experience is. Hope to share about imagination friend with you. I'm not sure to say this is my first time to see her(at age 39-40). It seems I experienced something like this a few when I was young but not clearly like today. I saw someone sit near my bed with a white robe when I was a kid. And during drowning someone gave me a hand pulled me out from under boat.
From [Genesis 11:8-9] Do GOD has some kind of power to change the past?
So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel[a]-because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
From the word "confused the language of the whole world" is it possible that, this is a changing something in timeline cause some affect to human perception?

The only person I have heard from those who are about to die from my family members that they see is their mother. My grandmother who passed at 100 saw her mom a few days before she passed.
Happened to me when I was approx 11-12 yro.
I felled in the lake at our summer cottage and the lake was pretty deep. I didn’t know at that moment what happened ( was panicking ) remember seeing green water and long vines coming from the ground to the lily pads above. Then I felt it. A push from below. I thought it was a nearby swimmer helping me, since I didn’t know how to swim. But it was a odd experience, since I felt like it was destiny to get out of the water, and that presence, that push from below. I can’t ever forget that
I had the exact same thing happen to me, I was in a beach in Trieste Italy when I was 13 years old (back in 69) and trying to catch up with my cousins in the water who knew how to swim but I got into trouble bcz I got in the water too deep and I couldn't swim so I was literally drowning. Then I felt someone push me back to shallow waters and was saved. The interesting thing is that there was no one around me that could've given me that safe nudge back to the shore. It was weird and I will never forget it.
I've experienced something like third man syndrome. I just recovered from the flu, or so I thought and went for a run in the park. It was late February at night it was raining and about 34F/1.1C. I kept feeling that someone was running right behind me, but every time I looked back no one was there. When I got back home I had a 103F/39.4C temperature.

@@EQOAnostalgiabro didn’t get the joke
It does make sense if it happens in dire situations the make u prone to halucinate. Your brain starts to get confused and probably goes a bit insane so it generates an entity that helps you stay sane and guide you thru the situation. Its all knowledge u have but in the moment you are scared and shocked and cant think clearly so your brain sends you guidence in the way of the third person. Usually when people are afraid or in a very difficult prediciment, they more than likely wish there would be someone that would just tell them what to do even tho they might know the solution.
I've had this phenomenon happen to me before. I think it's one of two things, a guardian angel or stress on the body inducing psychosis. I like to believe it's the former.
As someone who has experienced it myself, it’s the former.
Whatever it is, I would have died without it.

This sort of reminds me of an incident that happened to my neice when she was only about 9 years old or so. Her mother, an infamously bad driver, misjudged the speed of an oncoming car as as attempted to cross his lane she was struck at high speed broadside. She and her daughter were both thrown from the vehicle. Her other slightly younger daughter, who was also in the car was uninjured. My sister only suffered minor cuts that required sutures to close. But the other daughter describes how, as the accident is in progress, she was lifted by, what she described as an angel, held up and carried her to her mother and gently laid her on her chest. Which, by the way was actually where she did end up, completely unharmed. 3 ladies who amazingly escaped death or serious injuries, is an unbelievable gift. I am unconvinced she was literally carried by an angel, but not positive, because her youngest brother by many year used to always smile and wave at any vent he came across. Such as the large return air vents on the wall or ceilings and heating registers on the floor. He was quite young. Barely a year old so unable to speak yet, but the creepiest part was that his father had died only a few months before this began. It was very unnerving. It scared his sister, the one who saw the angel, so badly, she nearly dropped him. I have also seen and experienced things that I do not understand and cannot seem to explain. However, I believe that our concept of an angels appearance is not completely accurate. But more like an artists rendition which was adopted over time as what we believe is genuine. Similar to our christian portraits of Jesus. As far as I am aware, there are no accurate real life representations of this man. So we create what we want to see. This said, and knowing the images we see of angels most likely to be hugely inaccurate, I believe most of these sightings under trauma are from our own subconscience. A way to ease the stress in life threatening situations. Similar to how some cannot remember their traumatic experiences. Just an automatic coping mechanism created by our own mind, showing us familiar images as a way to do this.
Angels in the Bible are more like extra dimensional beings that look very scary and weird
I remember that story about the captain. The men with him on their trek were so exhausted on the journey that he told them to get some sleep. He alone stayed up despite the temptation to sleep, and when he felt himself slipping, he woke them up. They'd only gotten five minutes of sleep, but he told them they had gotten a few hours worth. Not only that, people have mapped and cataloged the journey the captain and his men took to reach the whaling station, and have literally stated there was no possible way they should have been able to make that journey, even under more promising, and even modern, circumstances. They literally did the impossible. Wouldn't surprise me if the captain and crew had an angel on their side.
We shouldn't be discounting investigation of the spiritual world and invisible entities (both good and bad). I hadn't heard of this aspect of Shackleton's escape before, all of it series the odds in an unlikely way.
Maybe Shackleton had the ability to call upon positive spirits for help as he strongly desired there to be no fatalities.
Trying to rationalize an absurd and absolutely ridiculous event Is a waste of time there is no making sense of it for them or you and that’s the hardest part. We always try to put things in a box categorize and label nice and neat but some events or things in life are chaotic unsettling confusing and out of order be open to that idea and your world will never be the same 😅😮😊

It's worth noting that this feeling can go awry sometimes convince people who get lost in the wilderness that they're encountering other people who can't seem to see them or ignore them, or in some cases are hostile to them or even chase them when there's no evidence that ever actually happened
I live alone in a three-room apartment, but sometimes when I'm occupied by doing something, I can feel a natural presence, like if there's someone in the next room, and then I remember I live alone, and that can't be true.

Anything is possible for sure.
If this “third person” is our own hallucination, then it would only know what we know and could not help.
But it is the subconscious mind, it takes in a lot of information from daily life, even the most little things, even when you are not paying attention. It will understand it also. So basically it knows more than the conscious mind.

I'm not sure should I share this or not? I'm Buddhist. Normally my hobby is to compare science and religion but I do only on my religion (Buddhist). I'm not believe about miracle much however .. Is it possible that ... both Bible and Quran tell the right story about sacrificing of Jesus but in different time-line? [There are quantum theories show that every matters can be also waves which could be interfered each other in the specific period of time , There are also ambiguous logic which in the middle between truth and false as well , And super position theory which the quantum matter can be appear more than one position at the same time!!! ] This is some kind of changing the event in parallel dimensions in the past which will affect the present. From [Genesis 11:8-9] Do GOD has some kind of power to change the past? This quite clearly refer to paradox incident!!
Is it possible that, the angels were try to help Jesus by changing the past in parallel timeline? which cause paradox incident. Umm.. I won't to go detailed on my theories at this time..... I just only want to know about the angel who is being friend with me . However I wonder , Is her just my hallucinations or dream? It's quite hard to interpret her words. hmm pretty funny i remember hearing a story about a bunch of U.N peacekeeper soldiers who where in africa on a peacekeeping mission, long story short a warlord wasnt so keen on turning in their weapons and instead directed their weapons at the soldiers and attacked the base they where staying at.they where vastly outnumbered and where completely surrounded from all directions so they hatched a escape plan and at nighttime climbed over the simple dirtwalls of the compound and made a run for it. they where walking for days and the african heat was scorching hot and they where nearing dehydradtion and where near death the soldier recalled seeing a black woman in a white dress constantly walking besides of which he knew it was a hallucination. and when they where about to collapse of the heat and lack of water they heard the sound of frogs which indicated there was some water nearby which they ended up finding, eventhough it was just a small mudpond near some trees they carried purrification tablets and could make it somewhat drinkable and they where able to hydrate to eventually track to safety.
i think the soldier thought the black woman in the white dress was somesort of gaurdian angel so to speak.

I was remebering some of my traumatizing past, and i felt someone touch my shoulder as i was there crying. My best friend had died around a month prior to this. I can confirm my room is haunted though. I still question that 3 months later.
When I was going through traumatic times, I had "someone" with me. Named him Alex. He hasn't been very active lately, but I take it as a side effect of peaceful times.
My grandfather recounted his experience with this when he and a colleague were caught in a tunnel that was filling with gas. He described the third person as being a monk, which might have been because the place he worked in was built where a monastery used to be.
