I’ll stay with my 5.7 hemi 3.92 gears
No dipstick is a literal deal breaker
@nonickerson.........There are many vehicles on the road tody, that don't have "DIPSTICKS", even on the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS!
That 2016 is really nice!👍 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yeah especially for the price. Great to hear that the only issue he has had was the rear camera.
My 2017 RAM 1500 Bighorn 5.7 4X4 8 speed runs like a champ! Still looks great. 😊
$67,000 for that? There’s a 2024 1500 Limited with the 5.7 at my local dealer for 60k. It’s been sitting for almost 8 months
$67,000 gets u a xlt ford (one step above the base work truck) not a bad price for the platinum equivalent which will run you $83k.
The lt Silverado is $65k as well, a step above the custom trim
Go buy that Limited since now you know what a great deal it is.
@@jimmyneutron3055 F-150 Crew Cab 4x4 XLT starts at $50K. Lariat is $65K. Big Horn is a lot closer to an XLT than a Platinum, which starts at $73K. Big Horn is one step up from a base Tradesman.
RAMs rust out the worst of all trucks. Chevy isn't far behind
That bighorn is basically like the new Laramie. Both great trucks. Gotta love Ram.
My Chevy Silverado 6.2 V8 made 25 mpg in the highway, sorry but I don’t won’t an Italian/france truck because now RAM have just the name American, and I am Italian !
Sounds implausible. Most people get maybe 20-21mpg highway with their 6.2, unless your highway routes keep you at 45-50mph tops.
Well China owns part of Chevy, so I think I'd stick with Italian over China.
Unfortunately now the dodge use the Alfa Romeo car for made a new baby suv…and Ram use the Jeep component “Stellantis Group” and you all same cars with different logo
About China Tesla have one of the gigafactory’s in the world in the Asia …so is in all cases an American brand
Fabrizcostantini7. I had many different GM’s over the years. As time progressed the new gen after new gen GMs just got worse. So I dropped GM and went to Ram. Now 10-15 years ago I wouldn’t consider a Ram. But over the years and knowing people that owned them was impressive on how the reliability greatly improved. Got the 2019 and so far has been great and reliable
Do people really care how fast a Pick up goes 0-60? Isn't that like being concerned how much a Dodge Challenger can tow?
They do. I don’t completely get it, but they do.
Not quite. People still like to drive quick vehicles and sometimes being faster than the person next to you is a boost to your ego regardless of the type of vehicle that you drive.
So long as it isn't slow. But fun is fun.
I don't 🛻 I just want my truck to tow my fishing boat and be reliable if you want to go fast buy a car 😮
Yes I do.
For the $25k price difference, I would get a nice supercharger and a few boltons, take the remaining $$ and do a cross country trip 😂😂😂😂😂
The classic ram design is very attractive. I hate the current gen trucks with their blobby styling.
I got the new gen 2019 Ram and I love the style. But over all I always liked all the ram designs since 2000. This 2016 is nice and mint…
Bought a Ram SLT QUAD CAB in 2007...22K out the door....
So what? Pos in and out. A premium priced truck with an economy engine, government and car makers are finding out we aren't interested in what they think we want.
Good video, yes. The new RAM has 3.92 axle the 2016 has a 3.21 can tell because of the low payload number. If that Hemi had a 3.92 it would have been closer I think.
Great Minds think alike!!
@@casmithc2🤟
The gear ratio has to do with max tow not payload…
@@Lq32332 Higher numeric axle ratios require the driveline to spin more in order to turn the wheel once, but generally deliver more torque, which can improve off-the-line acceleration and help provide pulling power when carrying heavy loads or towing heavy trailers.
My top three most important reasons to choose one pickup over the other are PRICE, RELIABILITY, and LONGEVITY. Performance and efficiency are excellent, but these other boxes must be checked first.
$67k with cloth seats 😂
Yes thankfully the big horn still comes with cloth, I hate leather
@@ohioguy4326 cloth seats is the way to go, I’ve seen a lot of leather seats fail early in the life of the truck
Welcome to 2024.
Still not sold on the hurricanes. Sure, they may be a bit faster but as for holding up? I've had 5 hemis and they were some of the best trucks I've ever owned. Love the power, sound and general reliability. I know some people have had issues but let's be real here, that's every brand. Unfortunately buying any truck these days is a crap shoot. I guess I'd have to do an extended test drive with one to see. With all that said, a few take aways from this. Why compare a '16 model against a '25? Why not compare a '24 hemi with the '25 hurricane? Also, a lot of people are mentioning the price. That's MSRP that he's speaking of. I saw some local (south Louisiana) big horns with the hurricane as low as $38k up to $50k depending on options/add-ons and Laramies plus or minus $1k-$3k of what he said in this video. He likely didn't pay that price. I honestly think they are having trouble selling them around here with that big of a discount before Labor day. Just my opinion.
LMFAO a mid level trim 1500 ram cost 67k I bought my 2020 WT model dually for 58k back in 2019 I hope people learn how to vote this coming season.
That is one well-taken care of 2016. I'd be proud of that truck too.
it sure is, i picked up a 2017 limited, oct/29/23 with 40k/mile, 68k/kms for $38k/cdn, what a steel, mint condition! drives like new, it's a keeper, although i do like the next gen, will be watching closely at the long term of l6 hurricane! should be interesting, cheers
If I'm doing my math right, $43k is about 550k today at 2%avg inflation (clearly more based on recent year!). So difference is $17k from what he paid. And if he paid $55k, that'd be $64k today.
Just a reminder to folks when they compare costs over many years!
@gregoryf9299...... EXACTLY. Looks a t GAS prices today compared to just 10 years ago!
I have owned both a 2014 Ram 1500 and a 2019 Ram. They were both crew cabs, and the newer one has a bigger cab. The rear seat has a lot more leg room on the newer trucks.
Well with the hurricane you dont get the hemi tic....xd
No you will be getting that Hurricane tick.....🤷♂️
Use thicker oil and you won't get the tick. 5W 30W prevents it.
@@Vendingsupplier that is the problem, if they designed it better you would not have to use thicker oil, also what happens in the winter with that thicker oil? thats right it takes longer for it to lubricate the top end.
The hemi tick has been determined to be low oil pressure at idle don’t allow your hemi to idle a lot and it won’t happen or upgrade to hellcat oil pump plug an play bolts right up.. thicker oil is like putting a bandage over cancer it’s not fixing the problem.. if you already have a tick and it’s not the manifold bolts the motor is in need of work the oil pump upgrade will not work..
If you go inline at there site they are only taking a few thousan off
I have always liked RAM, but I have never had the courage to buy one. But this one seems really nice.
Same here... I always admired them from afar but was too afraid to buy one because of their past reputation. I will be sticking with my 2017 Tundra for the foreseeable future🤪
I had a 2019 for 5 years great truck
@@user-kq7gi7eh1s2017 Ram 1500 and it’s been great. I crossed shopped Tundra but saved almost $10k buying the Ram. So far no regrets.
@@johnmorris77 Same, best truck I've ever owned. I'm not sure about these new ones though. I trust my Hemi over this turbo I6 until I see them work out the kinks. Hell Toyota, just basically recalled all of the 22-23 Tundras for new engines. Props to them for doing that, because Ford or GM would be kicking that time bomb down the road on your dime.
They are asking way too much money for a new truck anymore. Sure, they're nice, but 80 to $100,000 for one that's loaded, I'll pass
Good video 👍🏾
I purchased a new Gen IV Limited back in 2016. An absolute awesome truck that I was content with keeping. Purchased a 2024 Gen V Limited Black Night Edition Hemi earlier this year. Circumstances beyond my control caused me to update. I’m really enjoying all the bells and whistles on the Gen V.
I will not buy anything with out a dip stick period.
For what reason?
@@ohioguy4326 well one reason is making sure it’s not overfilled after an oil change
@@pathunter7003 It has a gauge on the dash that shows the oil levels. Just like a fuel tank and DEF tank.
@@fit4ya1975 so it could show full, but not if it’s too full, there is no reason they couldn’t have both , sensor and dipstick to cover everything
@@pathunter7003 agree
Does seem odd to not have a dipstick. I’m betting this will actually do the opposite of what folks think. This could decrease the number of people running low on oil. By the way, great video.
I think that is the intent. Reducing the number of people experiencing low oil levels or notifying them before danger occurs.
@@ALMX5DP I think they should have both . one for during warranty and a physical one for when the owner is on their own after warranty is over and they are responsible for their $30,000 motor .
@@rodgood I don’t see why an owner couldn’t add one themselves after the fact if they were so inclined.
@@ALMX5DP your kidding right.🤔
@@rodgood why do you ask?
Look for a left over 2023 - the bargains are out there.
Interesting. My 18 Big Horn has parking sensors…
You cheated you had the inside lane😮 Nice comparison between generations. I always liked in-line motors hoping this one holds up. I would have like to see the engine compartment and there is the issue of the oil filter location. 👍
The oil filter is on the right side of the engine, and it's mounted horizontally facing forward.
I am going to test drive one down in the Springs Saturday. I think the I6 will pull my travel trailer over Loveland and Vail passes pretty effortlessly.
You’ll have to report back on what you think.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I found one at Autonation Southwest in Littleton, CO. It is a quad cab, Night Edition, Level 2, Towing Brake Controller, Alpine 9-speaker sound. Looks great and the I6 is pretty quick at least compared to some other trucks I have driven recently. The big mirrors take a little getting used to but when I am pulling my travel trailer I will be happy I have them. Love the big infotainment screen. Got a great deal and bought it! A bit later I ordered a Lomax trifold tonneau and plastic bedliner from A&A on Colfax. My German Shepherd is happy space in the back with the seats folded up. Night Edition looks bad-ass.
@@Larry_Lakewood congrats!
Ah id take the hemi still. If i had wanted a faster truck i would have bought an Ecoboost. Thats the race we need to see.
why? It's a car engine.
@@davidporter7051 Ummm they both are car engines.
@@Link-we8so the Ecoboost definitely isn't a car engine. It makes peak power at low rpms and throughout the power band. The Hemi needs to spin up like a top to make peak power.
Making peak torque at 4000 rpm doesn't make an engine a car engine. Unless you know it's in a car.
@@Link-we8so just send location. You will be easy to fix
I get about 17 mpg 13 hemi Laramie Longhorn on your route to denver.
Dumb comparison 🤡
I've had 8 brand new rams over many years and the new ram is really may be a 50K truck.. That's plenty....
Good day Lee. You still have your 2019 ram? Still treating you well?

All that will be left shortly will be these pressurized aluminum lawn mower engine trucks!!!!!!
The missing dipstick is no big deal, a lot of European vehicles don't have them, and word is Chevy is also doing away with them. Everything is going electronic now, better get used to it. I am a little bugged about the lack of ACC on the ignition. You go from Stop to Run, nothing in between. My 2023 wouldn't let you back into anything if you were backing up at an idle with your foot on the brake, and that too is gone on the 2025. Had the Check Engine light come on 12 hours after I got it home. Took it back to the dealer first thing on Monday morning, they couldn't find any problems, so they cleared the computer, and the CEL light went off, and has stayed off a week into ownership. One thing I AM happy about...I won't miss the ETorque, I believe it's a Gremlin just waiting to rear it's ugly head. Overall, it seems like it's a well built truck, and it rides better than my 23, and is definitely quieter inside without the drone of the Hemi. I did, however, have the Mopar Performance exhaust on my 23. Performance wise, it's night and day. This new truck is just stupid quick/fast, and that's in Normal drive mode. Not sure I want to find out what Sport mode will do, maybe someday. One other thing I'm not crazy about is the lack of tow hooks, or "Recovery Hooks" for the purists out there. I'm certain any Gen 5 hooks will work, but I'd bet the bezels are going to be a "Dealer Only" item, at least until there's more of them on the road. I looked at virtually all the models from Tradesman to Limited, and none of them had hooks that were factory installed. They also went cheap on the floor mats. No more plush RAM embroidered floor mats, just cheap light weight ones. I'm not 100% sure I made a substantial upgrade from my 2023, but I'm stuck with it now, so I'll make the best of it. I looked at virtually every dealer in the OKC metro, and none of them are coming off the MSRP, except for the incentives, so don't look for any deals in the Oklahoma City area. I purchased the Big Horn 4X4 SST w/Level 2 option pkg. 3.55 axle ratio. There's not a Night Edition to be had locally, so the bumpers are chrome.
I thought not having a dipstick was strange at first, but that back in 2006 on a small German sedan, so not so shocking. I have a 5.7 Hemi in a new gen GCL and love it so far. It really works well with the 8 speed in that suv. I’m sure the Hurricane is fine but I’ll stick to old school and naturally aspirated for a little while longer and I love straight sixes. I’m curious to see how such high compression on a new engine will impact reliability over the next few model years.
I’d rather have the reliability of the hemi. When those turbos start going out, which they will, you’re going to end up forking up some money.
not apples to apples-put twin turbos on the hemi. i am so tired of these twin turbo small engines. do a real actual proper comparison. what stellantis is doing to chrysler i wont be purchasing a new vehicle ever again. no oil dipstick no deal. my gosh all you folks that dont want to actually drive just use public transportation
This hurricane engine might be a home run , FCA won’t have the problems TOYOTA is having with there TT V6 the Hurricane is built to last
Let's see if the 6 will be a duty cycle engine like the hemi.
Let's see that 6 towing up grades high rpm day in day out like a hemi can.
If you're towing day in day out then you'd be better off going diesel. I think either will do fine with occasional to moderate towing duty.
There would be no high rpm’s needed for towing with the hurricane as it produces more power at a lower rpm unlike the hemi
The Duke says, TFL ran one up the Ike and the oil temp went up to 250 degrees. That's a disaster waiting to happen.
Count me out.
What did I teach you?
I have a Ram 1500 hemi and am currently looking to get a 2025 with the hurricane. On a test drive I can say the new Ram is insanely fast. Even when you punch it from 50 mph it never stops pulling. I've never felt a truck move like this and you need to drive it to believe it.
That old chap is living the real American Dream. Wife 4 runner, Daughter Boat, Brother Grand Toyota. And Trump is saying it's all bad. I can't tell with folks constantly buying these expensive Trucks.
That old chap bought his truck before bidenomics strangled the country with high prices for everything, especially trucks
10 year financing. Not good.
If you was gonna buy that two thousand and sixteen today it would probably be eighty thousand dolljust to keep up with inflation
i dont care which is faster i want the one is is the most reliable these trucks now days all enough power for normal use i do like the look of the 25 though
No dipstick?
I like the 2025 refresh look. Hurricane seems cool but would be scared about the maintence after the first 100k
Need a comparison video of all three manufacturers Twin turbos Toyota Ford and ram
The problem CJDR has not addressed with the Hurricane engine is GDI valve deposits. Ford had to design a second set of port injectors for their Ecoboost engines to stop the engine failures at 70-90k miles. Wait until the Hurricane hits 70k+ miles. I hope you have an extended warranty.
It’s not a ford.. or a v6 it’s an inline 6 with each turbo serving 3 cylinders. Just a way better setup than a v6 TT.. I’m sure issues have been addressed this motor has been out for a few years now in other vehicles.. it’s been pretty rock solid
The Alfa Romeo SUV has been using this engine for several years, it's not a brand new engine. It's just new to the American market.
I don’t think you’ll ever get dodge ram owner who’s owned hemi say anything else but hemi 😂
What’s the power difference between the two below 2000 rpm?
To me I could care less about the power I want reliability and longevity
I’d rather compare msrp vs msrp and not a good deal vs a no deal. I’m sorry but no way in hell are you doing 80 mph and getting 20 mpg.
For that much money, I would go with the CUMMINS DIESEL and a 2500.
With the lower payloads that comes with most 2500/Cummin pairings, I'd say you would really need to step up to a 3500 to actually make functional use of that powertrain.
I’d like to see the same comparison for a ford, GM, and Toyota to see the price difference from 2016 to now. In the Toyota case the new engine is a v6 turbo of course. Consumers can drive the prices down if they won’t buy the higher priced trucks.
What ratio does he have?
If I buy a new RAM it's going to be an RHO unless those asshole dealers only order one and mark it up. If they do, I'll just order one from where you did, and go pick it up.
Anger issues bruh?
The RHO appears to be a fine product. My only issue is it pidgeon-holes you into Premium gas only. If Trump gets elected then ok, If the current idiot administration stays in office expect gas to get stupidly expensive again, more so than before so they can push us all into EVs. Then that RHO becomes a purchase for those with more money than brains.
brain teaser guys!! the turn signals are like tractor trailer, the timing is the same, they are also the day time running lamp!! also the 16 has the 'cross hair' grill/facia vs the 'rams nose' my 17 limited has the rams nose!!
Think truck like this without the option V8 it’s like think electric Ferrari, the people love this type of engine and the brand think only make a money
Big difference in price! Although, I think is relative, the price difference between the prior generation compared to the 2016 is probably similar.
That’s how it’s done. Wait for discounts and buy low. Get a 24 hemi…..and he said he got 22 on the hwy which is better than 21.
So … a good video?
@@Pickuptrucktalk I liked it. He got better mpg hwy than the turbo. And if he drove 65 did even better. Just remember the hurricane is a compliance engine.
@@nordlandak6853 it’s unknown if he consistently got 22 mpg or if it was a best ever. He has a nice truck but with that poor payload of just a little over a 1000 lbs with 4 guys and a dog, it’s maxed out, no trailer behind that rig. With just the driver he couldn’t tow more than 8200 lb with that 3:21 rear gear.
The hurricane payload is decent and it’s unknown how it was driven before the mpg was determined here, more testing needs to be done with this engine
The two sensors in the front of the new Ram are for the adaptive cruise; it was not available on the previous gn, thankfully standard across the lineups now (IMO)
The in bumper sensors are for parking. The adaptive cruise is in the little rectangular plate on the lower bumper (it's the radar part), and the camera in the rear view mirror looks at the traffic ahead, then communicates with the head unit in the bumper, and adjusts the speed to match anything in front of you.
Gimme that hurricane!
What is the Axle ratio of older truck? The turbo would still have won but it would be closer race if the older truck had a 3.92.
It would be a closer race with a 3:92 and hemi but the mpg would suffer also
Hemi RAM with 3.92 axle ratio blows away the same Hemi RAM with 3.21 gears...by the same distance in this race,so..
Remember the HEMI gets 1 mpg better in the city than the Hurricane
I own a Ram 1500 hemi and in the city you only get good gas mileage because it switches to 4 cylinders most of the time.. huge hemi fan love the sound.. carven exhaust cold air intake an throttle body spacer.. but all an all everyone saying there worried about reliability.. do the research an look at what the internals of the hurricane are.. they are built to last..
Hole shot makes the win.. an my buddies 392 spins a bit more of the line then he creeps on me a little and then I actually start walking away (slowly) with 321 gears
Gotta change the wireless mics from stereo to mono on edit timeline. Otherwise it treats the pair as left and right speaker.
Good point.
Is the High Output Hurricane available on all trim levels?
No, only the top three. Limited, Longhorn and Tungsten.
4th Gen Ram or no Ram… ( or 1st gen) 🙂
Still got a second gen 2008 that just keeps on going.

Big deal there is no dipstick. At least it is not an EV
My biggest complaint about RAM trucks, there payload sucks!!! For what you pay for them RAM should have a minimum 1800lbs payload for the $$$.
You probably won’t like Toyotas either then, I’ve watched some tundra vids with 1100 lb payloads. But I agree, they should have more standard payloads.
Another peeve with ram and some other brands is the crappy tires that they use on new trucks, just standard load tires on most of them when they should be light truck rated tires (6ply) to handle loads and trailers safely
My 2020 Silverado RST CC has 1820 lbs payload. Pretty good for a 1/2 ton CC.
Coil suspension it’s the minor cost of having the best riding truck out
Again for the amount of money that they cost, there is no excuse for such shitty numbers.
@@keystoners2007 it may ride nicer but the cost of coil springs is that they don’t have the lateral stability of a leaf spring setup.
Chevy used coil springs for a few years but went back to leafs
What’s the point? Your comparing almost 10 year difference trucks? The v8 is the bold body style even ? The Hurricane engine is a huge improvement over the Hemi, power and fuel economy. In my neck of the woods, a '25 Big Horn can be had for less than I paid for my '24 and it comes with nice features the '24 doesn't have. I'm upgrading.
V6 is just not as reliable with turbos, not as usable for working and towing and not as fuel efficient as people think. No one wanted a v6
It’s not a V6 btw.
Does anyone have the sales figures for 5.7L vs PentaStar in the Rams? That would tell me what is what as far as engine size goes. To add to that, how long did the original owners keep said purchase before selling/trading for whatever reason.
