Hand painting with different types of paint would be incredibly helpful! I don't have any where to host an Airbrush station at all, and local weather prevents me from doing spraycan work. Loving the channel so far man, keep up the good work!
Justin, you inspire me to keep getting better and with every tutorial video I watch I feel as if my dream diorama isn't so hard after all. Hearing you talk about how you're still a long way from mastering a skill makes me feel not so bad when it comes to my own gunpla skills. Thanks for the videos and encouragement!
Great tips and an awesome tutorial video. Looking to start getting into a lot more when it comes to customizing my Gunpla so this really helped. Thanks man!
great first tutorial for the new G Academy! I hope to see a solid tutorial on scribing soon. Thats my next big thing to learn and I'm certainly struggling with it. lol.
Great tutorial and grats on the start of a new channel! What I'd like to learn is to how to do hand painting on things that are on surfaces that are1 cm^2 or larger. I don't have an airbrush and I only have a few aerosol cans. Despite experimenting with different ratios of paint to thinner, I'm always finding bubbles or uneven layers of paint. And I have yet to see a Gunpla RUclips channel masterfully hand paint a kit.
I don't want to push traffic away from the boy studio G but if you search paintonplastic he hand paints larger kits, has a red beret video he does that's very helpful.
Love this channel. Thanks to your help, the only tool missing from my kit is masking tape and a cutting mat. Keep em comin G! You're an absolute legend 💖
I'm planning to begin modifying my Gunpla and your new YT Channel will help a lot. Very timely. Thanks for sharing and thank you for giving us motivation by your works! Hoping for Scribing and Pla-plate lesson next time. 😊
Thank you very much for this tutorial! I learn a lot from this video. Maybe I will do this on my upcoming project. Please do tutorial for decals (peel-and-stick, water transfer, dry transfer), I'm looking forward for your trick for the decals!
So, question. I watched you general purpose Barbatos video. After you painted the pistons red, you put masking tape on the red paint. Afterward the next paint job, you primed it. Do you not need to prime the color you're putting the tape on?
I am just getting back into it and bought a HG Kampfer, that I was planning on painting. I always notice in your videos you build the models and then disassembled them to paint, so I was gonna do the same. However, I can't disassemble it, lol, I tried to take its head off and think I broke it a bit as it's really loose now. I'm scared to try again. Can you do a video on how to disassemble or how to build in such a way for easy disassembly, please?
Oh your airbrushed the paint on. Every time I use masking tape I'm normally hand painting or using gundam markers but annoyingly the paint always seeps into the masking tape. Is it possible to use masking tape for hand painting because it doesn't make sense to me to mix paints and airbrush for tiny details when I have many markers?
Any tips for scribing? I've masked before and always hated the process. I'm starting to think it's because I've never scribed my parts before. What tools would I need and are there any tips for using those tools?
May tanung po ako Idol What if you use the stickers as your masking tape? Lets say like I prime the parts with white primer and then apply my color paint then I wanna mask it with the sticker for color separation for the next color paint. So when removing the sticker afterwards, will it damage the 1st colored paint? Or is there a way to prevent damage when peeling the gunpla sticker when used as masking tape?
I’m curious how many layers of clear / top coat you apply. I’m a beginner that hasn’t done custom painting yet, but looking at doing some panel lining and weathering with the basic Tamiya products. Should I panel line the bare plastic, then clear, then weathering, then clear? Or is there a better process to layering?
I've been having lots of trouble masking my parts so this tutorial is very helpful! With that said, sometimes the paint I use edges out underneath the masking tape and gets onto some parts I didn't want in that color. How can I remedy this?
So I just started resin Gunpla, and my masking tape pulls off Mecha and Tamiya acrylics... I sand, prep and prime then paint. (I degreased the parts in purple power as well) I feel like the issue is that I'm using a blue roll of 3M multi- surface painters tape. I Ordered some Tamiya masking tape but I don't know if that will fix the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tip #2 is false, Tamiya and Mr. Hobby use a washi tape versus a traditional painters tape that is much thicker. (Here in the States anyway..) The additional thickness will create a “lip” of paint as it builds up against the tape instead of flowing over it. It’s minuscule but will matter when the paint viscosity is incorrect. This makes the lines less crisp and uneven or the paint will grab when the tape is removed making chips and touch ups necessary.
Don't think I can agree with you on just using 'any' masking tape. I used some automotive blue masking tape I use for painting cars..... it didn't want to stick to the piece I was trying to mask. So hopefully this Tamiya tape will fair better.
Bro, thank you for sharing what you have learned. You def seem to take a "smarter, not harder" approach. Love it.
Thank you! 😀😀😀

Hello, should I put some topcoat on the piece before masking? So, that i won’t ruin the base paint
Great advice
I heard that using other tape like scotch tape will melt due to the paint being to hot is this true?
I wouldn’t of thought to put my tape in a zip lock bag, makes sense... thank you :)
Is it recommended to use regular masking tape, like what we can buy only in school supplies store?

I only use an ordinary paper tape and a cheap spray cans the first time i customized my zaku and it was a mess HaHaHa. Poor me.
