    I was today years old when I learned that after years of holding scale models in a padded vice and performing weird yoga poses with a metal rule and a scribing tool, that this method was even a thing.......I don't build Gunpla, I ended up here via a winding RUclips rabbit hole, but I'm delighted I found this. As someone in a different branch of the wider modelling hobby, thank you!

    Nice! This tutorial is what I need. I just started scribing this morning and only used a hobby knife and masking tape. I prayed to the scribing gods too lol.
    Again, concise and full of information. Best tip, "don't be afraid to start".

    Thank you so much for this video tutorial.
    Two things to consider:
    1. We love the flow of information. Super smoothly edited.
    2. Not only you give instructions about how to do it but also you give extra tips and how to fix common mistakes
    ...and those points make this tutorial a very good one. Thanks!
    Also we want to tell that we have started crafting gunpla a few months ago and we are on the point of buying a chisel and we found the one that you show for newbies on this videos and that has giving us the conficende to buy it and starting to panel-line our next build.
    Thank you so much!

    So, another thing you can do to fix damage, mistakes or blemishes, is snip off small bits of the spru in the color of the part and mix them in a small amount of extra thin liquid cement. If you're removing seem lines between parts, you want it kinda thin, but if you're filling gaps or fixing scribe mistakes you're going to want it to be more plastic than glue. It creates a kind of putty in the exact color of the kit. Just apply some to the problem area, let it dry, and sand it flush. And boom, good as new.

  • @Schjoenz
    @Schjoenz 2 года назад +32

    If the groove is too deep, You can also use tamiya cement to melt down some frames of the same colors (that's why I don't throw them away) and use it as a putty. That way, you don't need to paint the parts just to hide the crazy mistakes you've made.

    Great video. Tips from watching the video and you didn't mention. While scribing, have a pivot point. The hand that's doing the scribing, the last or last 2 finger can pivot or rest on the other hand holding the parts, in this way, the movement will be greatly reduce and mistakes will be lesser. (As shown in your video)

    omg like a year or so ago there were like no tutorials on this stuff, so when i had to figure it out on my own to make my PG rx-78-2 into the ver3.0 one, made a lot of mistakes.
    This video is great btw, but if you want some quick tips, DONT RUSH, dont go "oh its like a little line ill free hand it" because it will go at a slight angle and look terrible, also scribe very lightly, otherwise even if you have tape it might be a little wonky and if you do it hard the first time you cant correct it.
    id highly recommend the tamiya scriber 2, its wonderful, maybe if you want some finer lines then the ones in this video look better for that

    Things I've figured out today (my first day scribing): ABS plastic is way harder than styrene. Model kits are so easy and clean, things like Transformers figures that are shot in ABS plastic are harder, with much more resistance and the surface quality isn't as smooth. Also, maybe it is just the MIG tape I got (the only one my hobby shop had), but it WILL NOT stick to any type of curve...

    usually i create it from mix of cutting leftover runner from parts (usually belong and mr.hobby or tamiya cement in glass bottle or metal bowl...then apply it on those parts....this way also can be a solution for leftover runner and if you don't wanna repaint it just fixing some damage, like wrong cutting, nub mark holes, etc...

    • @RadicalEagle
      @RadicalEagle 3 года назад +1

      The best way to do it is to study them. StudioG himself will look at other people’s work to get ideas. The more you think about panel lines in relation to the geometry of the panel/part (lines are usually parallel and intersect at specific angles), and the more you practice, the easier it will be to figure out where you want to put your lines. It takes a lot of practice.
