    I used to shoot Canon in the 'film days'. My car got broken into and my two camera cases full of my Canon stuff was stolen (never found). That was my last Canon experience. I like some of their cinema camera offerings, but their lens mount 'variety' isn't something I like. I went to Sony when they decided to use E-Mount on everything, and for me, that was the deciding factor for my current and future with Sony. I'm not likely to be a Canon customer any time soon. Good Show as always ... enjoy your show a lot! (new hair looks good)

    Got myself a Panasonic S5 just when they announced these. Can't say I regret it, it's an amazing camera, but I am happy that Canon has finally released a true 80D replacement in mirrorless form. If it wasn't for the lack of native aps-c glass for RF mount right now, I'd even consider the R7. But as it stands, we'll have to wait and see how committed Canon is to this new system :)

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis It's actually my first full frame camera, and I've wanted to try full frame for years, so it's like a dream come true :D
      It's also pretty much the full-frame equivalent of the GH5 for those on budget. The S1H is even more amazing, but the price is bonkers: it's literally 100k in Ukrainian currency, and S5 is half that (so still a buttload, but not yet in the sell-your-kidney territory).

    Nice breakdown of these two cameras! 👍 I do wonder if any of the people who designs these cameras at Canon actually use Canon cameras ?? The R7 slot should of been reserved for a highest end APC camera taking after the 7D Mark II. I envisioned a R6 body with one CF Express card, weather sealing, same dial placement, a Quite Shutter as not to scare wildlife or disturb a church ceremony like the R6, and a Stacked BSI sensor at maybe 28 Megapixels for better ISO performance. The current R7 should have been the R8 in my humble opinion. It would have made good business sense strategically! 😉 Sad! 😢

    Mark has just announced a new hair cut to the world, shot with a sensor bigger than the full frame one. one question, does the R10 has some picture profiles with 8 bit if it doesn't support the 10 bit c log3 ? this is a deal breaker for me to consider this R10 because shooting for example using the zve10 with HlG3 makes the footage more pleasant to look at it after grading.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 года назад +1

      It does have HDR in 10-bit which should theoretically be better than HLG3 on the Sony for colour grading. in terms of 8-bit, I think it has Canon’s Standard profiles that we normally see like faithful, standard, etc.

      macs screens are close enough to 4K to be called 4K because no one really says a screen is 3.5k. and editing in 4K doesn’t really matter if it’s a 4K screen or not. I can edit 8k on MacBooks, but they’re clearly not 8k screens. it’s not really like HDR where you need a special monitor to see it. you’ll still see the 8k or 4K or whatever on the screen. you just won’t see the full resolution (high won’t really matter), but you still be able to see a difference in the footage of 8k vs 4K vs 1080. also, if you viewed the 8k footage on an 80 inch 8k screen you would see a difference between that and 8k footage on a 4k screen, but not a 13 inch screen

    Nice haircut!
    The R7 seems kind of cool, but I am a bit torn with it. I really love all my full-frame cameras, but the APS-C crop can be nice, especially for distance. The FF camera's I have, have crop modes, but with APS-C you keep your megapixels intact WITH the crop...hmmmmmm. I don't need it...I DO NOT NEED IT.... Or do I???? 😈
    I have a random unrelated series of questions for you 😂.
    I know you are a big Catalyst Browse lover, so I figured you could answer this for me:
    In Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare, do you have to have stabilization completely turned off in the camera to use it? Or can you have stabilization on and have Catalyst Browse/Prepare just take it to that next level? Do Browse and Prepare function the same when it comes to this?
    Thanks man! Great video as always!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 года назад

      We need them all. 🤣🤣
      You can leave on active stabilization and top up. The problem comes when you have a stabilized lens and you have the camera set to “standard stabilization”. It’s the stabilization in the lens that screws it up. So if your lens isn’t stabilized - nothing to worry about. I usually leave all stabilization off because I have the widest image that way and crop 10% on catalyst. Same with Prepare as far as I know.

  • @CinePals
    @CinePals 2 года назад

    I'm both excited and frustrated because it seems like Canon always has to bring in that cripple hammer somewhere. The 4K60 crop on the R7, as I understand, is 1.8x on top of the already existing 1.6x crop. Meaning, 24mm becomes a 70mm. That's if you don't want line skipping. It's using about 1/4 of the sensor to give you a "true" 4k resolution. The R10 does a 1.6x crop on top of the original which makes a 24mm a 61.5mm. These grievances aside, I think the price is actually quite reasonable. I bought a Canon 7D back in 2009 or 2010 for about $1,540. Considering that was 10 years ago and inflation has been banana town, I appreciate that Canon has kept the price competitive. Now if they'd just release software for the older cameras that does away with the 30 minute limit.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 года назад

      Yes, Canon does like to mix and match features. You are correct in assuming the 1.8 times crop is in addition to the standard APSC crop of 1.6 to full frame equivalent. So without speedboosters, there won’t be a lot of wide options in 4k60.

    • @truthseeker6804
      @truthseeker6804 2 года назад +4

      R7 doesn't have a crop in 4k 60. It's full sensor scale just line skipping so it's not downsampled like the 4k 30. The r10 also doesn't have a crop in 4k 50 only in 4k 60. The r7 has two versions of 4k 60, crop mode and line skipping.

    If I didn't already have the Sony A7iv, I would jump on the R7. Yes, the R7 has an APS-C sensor compared to the full frame A7iv, but, smaller sensors aren't necessarily a bad thing. For me it's about staying in the lane of one camera system at a time. I'm not a fan of using lens adapters between different camera systems. @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Exactly. I'm shooting a review video for the Zoom F3 - great audio recorder btw - and while looking at the footage last night it hit me of how sharp and clean the footage is. Sometimes people complain about an image being too sharp, but, I'd rather start with a really sharp image and soften it in post if I want to. Anyway. Great video. I look forward to seeing more videos of the R7 when the final version is released. Cuz, you know, I'm masochistic in that way. :P

      No need to regret the A7C. Is a full frame monster that will be better in lowlight and has a far better lens selection. If someone were to give me the choice of all of them for free - the A7C is what I would pick. There are just not enough lens options specifically for the APSC R-Mount.
