Nice haircut! The R7 seems kind of cool, but I am a bit torn with it. I really love all my full-frame cameras, but the APS-C crop can be nice, especially for distance. The FF camera's I have, have crop modes, but with APS-C you keep your megapixels intact WITH the crop...hmmmmmm. I don't need it...I DO NOT NEED IT.... Or do I???? 😈 I have a random unrelated series of questions for you 😂. I know you are a big Catalyst Browse lover, so I figured you could answer this for me: In Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare, do you have to have stabilization completely turned off in the camera to use it? Or can you have stabilization on and have Catalyst Browse/Prepare just take it to that next level? Do Browse and Prepare function the same when it comes to this? Thanks man! Great video as always!
We need them all. 🤣🤣 You can leave on active stabilization and top up. The problem comes when you have a stabilized lens and you have the camera set to “standard stabilization”. It’s the stabilization in the lens that screws it up. So if your lens isn’t stabilized - nothing to worry about. I usually leave all stabilization off because I have the widest image that way and crop 10% on catalyst. Same with Prepare as far as I know.
HOLD UP I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THAT HAIRCUT. Since I'm not in the market for either of these cameras I don't have much else to say, really, except nice little sneak slider footage I saw a couple of times.
I'm both excited and frustrated because it seems like Canon always has to bring in that cripple hammer somewhere. The 4K60 crop on the R7, as I understand, is 1.8x on top of the already existing 1.6x crop. Meaning, 24mm becomes a 70mm. That's if you don't want line skipping. It's using about 1/4 of the sensor to give you a "true" 4k resolution. The R10 does a 1.6x crop on top of the original which makes a 24mm a 61.5mm. These grievances aside, I think the price is actually quite reasonable. I bought a Canon 7D back in 2009 or 2010 for about $1,540. Considering that was 10 years ago and inflation has been banana town, I appreciate that Canon has kept the price competitive. Now if they'd just release software for the older cameras that does away with the 30 minute limit.
Yes, Canon does like to mix and match features. You are correct in assuming the 1.8 times crop is in addition to the standard APSC crop of 1.6 to full frame equivalent. So without speedboosters, there won’t be a lot of wide options in 4k60.
R7 doesn't have a crop in 4k 60. It's full sensor scale just line skipping so it's not downsampled like the 4k 30. The r10 also doesn't have a crop in 4k 50 only in 4k 60. The r7 has two versions of 4k 60, crop mode and line skipping.
Hi dear handsome Mark, nice haircut Btw. Did they provide any information regarding color sampling, is it 10bit 4:2:2 or. 4:2:0 . Also i saw on the spec sheet that the r10 shoot only 1080p 60fps not 120fps but not sure about it yet
I was wondering the same thing but found if you click on download specs on the official Canon webpage for the r10, you'll see it can shoot full HD at 119.88fps.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Learned it on my first hike with my new R7 last week. I'm still trying to decide if I like the Auto-Level or not, even though I really need it.
New do makes you look leaner and meaner…in a good action hero way! Both cameras look like nice additions, lean more toward the R7 only as it has IBIS (is it really OLY good or closer to Sony’s less effective versions?) and some weather sealing, but a bit too big for my use. R10 also a good studio camera? Nice Canon colours in both!
Hey Mark, I really like your videos (started watching you when I wanted to buy ZV-E10, but then they ended the production lol). Definitely the Sony ZV-E10 because the canon is $1000 without a lens. And there are no affordable lens options for Canon right now unless you buy an adapter and get some EF lenses. You can get the ZV-E10 and a nice lens like the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for under $1000. when Canon gets some affordable lenses, it may be a different conversation.
Sony APS-C users need a new good proper Sony APS-C camera. Canon seems an excellent option tho. Would have seriously got it if I hadn't already have lots of Sony glass.
First...nice haircut. Handsome redux. If I didn't already have the Sony A7iv, I would jump on the R7. Yes, the R7 has an APS-C sensor compared to the full frame A7iv, but, smaller sensors aren't necessarily a bad thing. For me it's about staying in the lane of one camera system at a time. I'm not a fan of using lens adapters between different camera systems. Native lenses give you better, more reliable, results in my experience. But, yes, that R7 looks tasty.
I definitely want to see some lenses before I would jump in and DP Review noted the 4K60 in the R7 was soft - maybe he wasn’t using crop mode, but I would want to see some more tests because the A7iv 4k60 is crazy sharp.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Exactly. I'm shooting a review video for the Zoom F3 - great audio recorder btw - and while looking at the footage last night it hit me of how sharp and clean the footage is. I'll wait and see how they do with real world reviews.
No need to regret the A7C. Is a full frame monster that will be better in lowlight and has a far better lens selection. If someone were to give me the choice of all of them for free - the A7C is what I would pick. There are just not enough lens options specifically for the APSC R-Mount.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis they could totally firmware update their current line to support it I would assume unless it's a processing limitation on the CPU or image processor

I have a random unrelated series of questions for you 😂.
I know you are a big Catalyst Browse lover, so I figured you could answer this for me:
In Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare, do you have to have stabilization completely turned off in the camera to use it? Or can you have stabilization on and have Catalyst Browse/Prepare just take it to that next level? Do Browse and Prepare function the same when it comes to this?
Thanks man! Great video as always!
We need them all. 🤣🤣
You can leave on active stabilization and top up.
🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I believe that the double crop is on the R10.
Hi dear handsome Mark, nice haircut Btw.
Did they provide any information regarding color sampling, is it 10bit 4:2:2 or. 4:2:0 . Also i saw on the spec sheet that the r10 shoot only 1080p 60fps not 120fps but not sure about it yet
it is 10 bit 4.2.2 for clog3 and HDR on the R7 and 10 bit 4.2.2 HDR. The R10 also has 120 like the R7 👍
I was wondering the same thing but found if you click on download specs on the official Canon webpage for the r10, you'll see it can shoot full HD at 119.88fps.
Enabling Auto Level disables Electric 1st curtain in shutter mode and eliminates that fastest shutter rates.
thansd for the info!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Learned it on my first hike with my new R7 last week. I'm still trying to decide if I like the Auto-Level or not, even though I really need it.
With all the new camera releases, it would be nice if they let tamron and sigma do RF lenses.
I really think that needs to happen.
Which camera should I get for my brand product photography?
Out of these two - R7
You can make a video aout the best lenses for that cameras... there are not a lot of videos about that!!!
R50, R10 or gh5 for video? Mostly Handheld like travel stuff. Shortfilms thinks like that🤔
the gh5 is better for that overall, but it’s autofocus is not good. The R7 would be the best overall in f you need autofocus
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks, hmm🤔 but overall the r7 is double the price, at this point i think the gh5 will be the better option🤔
I'm really curious about the R7 with a SpeedBooster and EF glass, maybe the Ninja V could fix some of the Cripple Hammer's dents.
Speedbooster and EF glass will be extremely useful for a lot of folks.
Not sure but I think the batteries are different too. Nice comparison video though.
Yes the batteries are different - I just mentioned the battery life without going into it. But they do not share batteries.
The R10 looks like a great studio cam for sure. The IBIS tests Kai did on the R7 look good
Pra Studio é melhor a R10....porquê a R7 a partir de F5 têm difração ! 33mp 👎 e 24mp 👍!
Hey Mark, is there a 30 minute video record limit on these cameras?
nope - no limit this time 👍
Hey Mark, I really like your videos (started watching you when I wanted to buy ZV-E10, but then they ended the production lol). I think I've noticed in some of your previous videos that you have Panasonic G9 (or was it GH5?). Could you maybe do some video about them? Many people consider them as the best price/value for the money if they want to do some filmmaking. I would appreciate it a lot :-)
btw - can you change the sound when you are adding attributes on the screen? I thought my headphones got defective. It's a really terrible sound :D
Yes - GH5 videos are coming. If you go back to the older vids of my channel, I do some GH5 stuff too. Of you don’t need autofocus, it’s the best value camera money can buy for video. 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for such a quick response! Ye, I've learned about Pana autofocus the hard way, but it made me appreciate the freedom manual focus offers, hahaha. Was able to snug Pana G9 with some accessories for 600€, which I think was a steal. I would love your takes and some tips about that family of cams (GH5 and G9), as I find the way you speak about things really entertaining and understandable :-) keep up the good job! :-)
@@kovmenius The sound when listing things sounds fine to me, perhaps I didn’t lower the volume enough and with headphones that would make it worse. I’ll double check next time to make sure
very informative video! thanks a lot!
You are welcome!
Hope to see a R7 review soon.
I’d love to - hopefully a camera store can lend me one
Helpful video, thanks.
You got a haircut! Yes all of them. I'm done 👍

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis perfect amount of information!
How would this compare to Sony A6400 and Sony Zve-10 ?
I am going to my first camera to shoot videos and photos in nightclub and mainly events
i am confused as my budget is around 1000$
Sony A6400, Sony Zve-10, Canon R10 - Which one will be the best buy for me ?
Also nice haircut :)
Invest in the Nikon Z50 or X-S10 or E-M5 III, You can use your Sony E Mount lens with Z50 with $200 Adpater
Both Lack 4K Aperture or Shutter Mode for Video
I can’t confirm that - but it’s not on the spec sheet - so unfortunately that seems to be true. Do you know it for certain?
Sony APS-C users need a new good proper Sony APS-C camera. Canon seems an excellent option tho. Would have seriously got it if I hadn't already have lots of Sony glass.
The glass really hold me back too
And let's see the overheating limit of both these cameras... there is no 30min limit for both cameras. Excellent.
They look great, but we need some lenses!!
Really nice information
I was gonna buy the fuji xs10 but now thinking about the r7 only thing putting me off is the expensive lens
Yes - but look to see what lenses you need - they have an affordable 16, 35, and 50.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis CANON RF-S lack lenses, buy after at least 1 years, for now get the X-S10
Sometimes people complain about an image being too sharp, but, I'd rather start with a really sharp image and soften it in post if I want to. Anyway. Great video. I look forward to seeing more videos of the R7 when the final version is released. Cuz, you know, I'm masochistic in that way. :P
Why would you regret the a7iv? It is superior to these Canons in all respects
R10 has full sensor 4k 50 line skipped. Check the canon specification pdf manual.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis bro are you replying to wrong person? i didnt say 4k 60, i said 4k 50 line skipped. i downloaded the canon official specifications pdf. both r7 and r10 dont have downsampled 4k 60 from 6k. its either line skipped or extra crop for no line skipping.
@@truthseeker6804 I actually think that’s a mistake in the USA manual. The 4K50 is written in the category or 4K fine oversampled. Then it is also written under the crop. The UK manual does not include 4K50 full sensor readout whether line-skipped or downsampled.

OMG, you have fallen under lawn mower ;-). I like R7 but my wife has some issues with justifying that purchase. I need to read a book: how to convince wife to let you buy another camera gear! Looks like for vlogging old EFS 10-18mm canon lens would be useful.
it makes you happy! that should be more than enough if she loves you :) (ideally of course 😅)
Bruh I was so excited to hear the specs on these I felt like they weren't real. Sony can only come back swinging with the a7000 series. Or spit out a firmware update for the a7c and a6400 series, doubtful but would be nice.
I bought that a7c recently and kind felt dumb after canon announced these 2.
I think Sony should do an a7000 or whatever too. They could do a cinema version and call it the FS1 like the A7siii/FX3
@@chman2 Oh for sure - I’d like to see a 10-bit APS-C from Sony personally.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis they could totally firmware update their current line to support it I would assume unless it's a processing limitation on the CPU or image processor
Just Give Me a A7000 with Great IBIS + 1.1x Active Stab of the A7 IV with Titling EVF of GX9
nice haircut sir...
Sony should make zve20 with same 24mp stabilization for 1k and a7000 with 33 mp apsc cameras to compete more. Now I am buying sony lenses and using on my loved a7siii but also want to get something cheaper as bcam but a7c is a bit too expensive as b cam unless it goes down the price
I think they’ll release a high end apsc soon. An updated a6600. That’s my guess but it’ll cost the same as the R7 likely
I work with Sony and Canon.
Wait for R7. With my 100-400 mk2 & adap.ring is a good combo.
Also look out to a new Sony aps-c
@@fritsscholtenhzn6268 you use sony 100-400 gm with canon or canon 100-400mm? I mean I have myself only sony lenses so it can become quite expensive to invest in two systems...
Of course canon and panasonic are easiest to invest as second system (as sony for widest lenses selection) since canon uses rf in quite various shapes and forms and panasonic have better than cimpetition anamorphic acceptance
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I hope you're right about the updated a6600. I'm looking to bump my zv-e10 down to 'b' camera status but there is a giant hole in Sony's lineup. I feel like the only compelling option to step up is the a7iv which is very expensive. The a6600 is not very compelling to me.

tough call for sure - but the lenses for the A7C are so vast.

You're here to show off your new haircut! Sexy! :P
This is actually a compelling release. The lens situation is painful but with some new exciting lenses, especially if Sigma and Tamron start to hog wild on the RF A or whatever they're calling the line lenses then we're in for a showdown! Until that time, Sony 1 - Canon 0. Just need that high end APS-C Sony camera, enough of these small and light, let's go pro!

well, until canon gets many more lenses, the Sony APSC is still a better value for the entry level, in my opinion. You can get excellent quality lenses on the Sony system for reasonable prices. The specs on the R7 are good, but it’s quite expensive, especially when you factor in the lenses.
