My mom was a stay-at-home mom and I was her right hand helper from the time I could stand on a chair at the stove and stir a pot. I even remember standing on the kitchen counter in my flannel nightgown, probably about 5 years-old, and Mom's spelling c-i-n-n-a-m-o-n to me so that I can bring it to her, because she was baking pies, cookies or HER Grandma's fruit cake and Old English plum pudding recipes for Christmas time...
I don't ever remember hearing mom complain about her job at home. I can count on one hand how many times we got cold cereal (Wheaties or Cheerios only) for breakfast or TV dinners for dinner, because mom cooked everything from scratch.
We canned everything from asparagus to watermelon rind (hot water bath). Mom sewed all of her day dresses & dresses, night gowns for my sister & I, pajamas, shorts & pants for the boys when we were younger.
Don't get me wrong, my Mom did her part but we all had chores around the house. We served each other. I helped mom in the kitchen, right to the end, but we all had yard work chores, such as pulling weeds in the yard and gardening. Mowing the grass with our push mower.
When Mom was in the kitchen & she didn't need our help, us kids were mopping, vacuuming & picking up after ourselves in the rest of the house.. Then we could go out & play.
    We "served" each other.
For as long as i can remember, Mom collected & sold antiques too. We went to estate sales, auctions & flea markets on the weekends.
As us kids were getting bigger, she started selling fresh baked pies & her scratch made chocolate and peanut butter fudge at the flea market Saturday for quick cash & she was looking to lease an old Fanny Farmer candy building to start up her own pie bakery when she was killed in a car accident that we were in.
She packed a lot of learning into the 14 years that she was my Mom!
Life is what you make. Stop looking to others for approval.
Mom led a full life even as a stay-at-home mom.

When a couple decides to join in marriage, it is those two people who have to figure out how to make the relationship work, how to have each other's back, what their dreams are, and how to work towards those dreams to make them come true. Not every woman has it in her to stay at home; not every man has it in him to support a wife who would like to stay at home. Any which way, marriage is teamwork; without the team the dream doesn't work!

I was a stay at home mom. I homeschooled and took my kids on field trips to the zoo, sea world, and museums. On one occasion we were all together with the whole family and I was told by my sister in law that I didn't work. I informed her being a full time wife and mother was a fulltime job but with even greater rewards that a 9 to 5 job. Her and my brother had no kids,a maid and gardener. I was never envious of that. I love doing my own gardens and definitely my own laundry and housework. My kids had friends over and played hard when outside. I would not have changed a thing. I love how your kids help with weeding the garden, and study well in homeschooling. I also notice that they have imaginations. You are an awesome family and don't need to air dirty laundry about things.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Now days I doubt this would be possible. It is not always wise to incorperate all these new regulations that restrict commin sense options for working parents.

Your monthly podcast, on that same channel, you answer questions openly and honestly. You have amazing topics on your second channel and again ou keep it real. I know, if any of my grandkids come into the room, I don't have to worry about language and them hearing something they shouldn't. I can put my phone down and listen to you guys. My stay at home mom experience is that some people look at us as lazy, just because we don’t have a 9-5. That in itself is ridiculous. I just don’t understand why people can’t do what they choose and not push it on others. The trend of every woman should go to work and if you have kids, just throw them in daycare. It’s so sad. Daycare was created for those single mothers who had a need for childcare. It wasn’t originally for ALL families. No one should be made to feel like a bad person because they choose to stay home and care for their families. If they can afford to do it and they choose it, that’s totally great.

I follow a number of homesteading or homebuilding channels, and it is lovely to see the children as well, but I think the difference is that the focus is the homesteading/building, not the children, so it is not the same as pimping out your kids for content, and making that content a business you profit of.
It's a tough one because I have seen a number of lovely family channels, but whenever I think of filming private family moment in my life of my kids etc.. purely for public consumption and maybe a bit of show boating and validation, it just leaves me feeling unsettled.
So I don't tend to follow purely family channels for that reason.
I love you guys and your family! And have been really enjoying the podcasts, I love how thoughtful and measured you are when approaching difficult topics. As a Christian myself it is lovely to hear more traditional views in a thoughtful way. Thanks guys.

She made the best donuts, including Bismarck’s, Jelly filled donuts. She had a garden and canned everything. At 9 yrs old that is when went to work from late summer to December for money for Christmas presents. We always had desserts for supper and evening snacks that was homemade. She worked very hard raising 3 kids and taking care of Dad.

Great show. Jeremy and Melissa you speak volumes of wisdom. We got married in 1973, I was 19 and he was 24. I continued working until or fist child was born. Stayed home until she was 2 and went back to work. We Had baby #2 a few years later and I stayed home after that and we had 2 more children. I had a productive veg garden, did a lot of canning and cooking and kept a reasonable home. I loved it so much. When our youngest was 14, I went back full time and retired at age 66. Still work part time. No regrets. I always had a “Trad”mom heart ( no shame ) and I love being a wife, mom and keeping a beautiful home.

HOWEVER, I should have pursued a marketable skill, education because I ended up being the STUCK in a relationship with a narcissistic control freak and although I believed in a patriarchal order in the home, I also believed in a team marriage. My ex was not just the head of the house, but cruel in his Reign (atleast where his wife was concerned). I had no where to go, no money and my kids were still young. STUCK! Have a back up plan.

Hi guys thanks again for a very interesting conversation! After 16 years of working I chose to be a home with my children and be there as a volunteer at their school If you stayed home every one assumed you were available for everything! I also drove for car pool as well as made the soccer banners, and taught the kids at church! I was put down as a “soccer mom” by people who chose other paths! It was a lot of work but I would not have traded it for anything! I blossomed as much as my children did and grew in so many ways! We all have to decide what is best for our individual situations, but I would never say it was glamorous in any way! I can kind of relate to missing out on being present at birthdays with my kids because when video cameras (yes the big honking cameras) came out we all felt like we were bad parents if we didn’t catch everything our kids did on camera! I guess you both probably grew up with that! When I was a kid we had a few family photos and a few Polaroid pictures! Documenting everything is really less 50 years old! Most folks couldn’t afford it! It will be interesting in 10 years how society looks at the documentation of life in our country! Thanks for sharing!

Your comment about having a career (for lack of a better word) to fall back on was an important (almost unquestionable) expectation in our family. My sisters and I graduated high school in the 1960s and each of us chose a field for a career. All pre-marriage. We always felt our parents were ahead of their time. Note: my parents also trained for careers (they had great plans), unfortunately my Dad was needed on the farm, so they passed their dreams to us.

I wanted to add, I appreciate that you always show your children in a positive light. Obviously, they have good and bad moments, but you never put moments that they will be embarrassed by as an adult.

Hallo guys, so ,trad I think should mean: a. When the husband looks at his wife and thinks what can I do for her( not what can she do for me) and the wife looks at her husband and thinks what can I do for him( not what can he do for me). Then they think what can we do together to make our kids grow up with all they need(not meaning buying them luxury items) then we have a trad Familie. And then it doesn't matter if the mom works or stays home. It will be a good loving Familie.
You only showing little bits of your kids in the videos is the right way. I smile when I see them just doing their thing. But it definitely doesn't need more. Jeremy and Melissa nobody is perfect but it is also what kids need to learn from those imperfections for their sucess in life.
So thumbs up for both of you. And not as always because I am not in Switzerland right now,so with love from Israel🇮🇱, rachel

I really appreciate the fact that you both believe in the sanctity of your family first and foremost before RUclips. It’s not just your children but all of your family and as far as the extended family goes I have to believe that they appreciate you respecting their privacy by not shoving a camera in their face. There can be room for both RUclips and family when you make the choice to have a RUclips channel without exploiting everyone that chooses to visit you. Thanks for being mature enough and respectful enough to understand that choosing to share your journey on social media does not mean everyone has to be on board.

My son and daughter are 16 years apart in age. With my son, my first, I wanted to be home with him as long as we could afford for me to stay home. With my daughter, after 6 weeks I couldn't wait to get back to work, into an adult world everyday. I certainly enjoyed coming home to my new baby and family experiences. Life was great!

Baby blues usually happens around day 3 post-partum…and only lasts a day or two…post partum depression usually happens at about 2 weeks post partum or so and can last for a long time and needs to be looked at immediately….I worked as an obstetrical nurse for 35 years and we stressed this to moms….I love this pod cast and have my opinions on the subject.. my mother was a stay at home mom from the 40’s-60’s…however my father although was the bread winner they shared housework, cooking and child rearing…I was unable to stay home but raised 2 daughters with help from family..It takes a village…😊🇨🇦❤️

Ok, I admit I had to Google Chip and Joanna Gaines. No idea who they are or ever watched their show. Looks like they remodel homes, so I get the connection. Good luck getting them on your podcast guys. Keep em coming. I enjoy spending an hour with you two on Weds nights. PS...I am down with the "Trad-wife" movement. I always say that sometimes you got to go back before you can move forward.

You both are outstanding parents! Perfection is not a requirement, and actually in my opinion, it's healthy for children to see imperfections, or mistakes that parents make. The most important part is the children seeing how the parents deal with, overcome, and fix the mistakes made, in a healthy positive way. This gives children proper coping skills, emotionally, and personal\social actions. We want to teach, and show our kids that adult responsibilities are within their grasp, and they have all the capabilities for adulthood. At the same time, for me personally as a rule, I encourage kids to be kids as long as possible. Don't try to grow up too fast. Enjoy childhood innocence, play, make friends, have fun. Your only a child for a very short time, and you cannot go back once you grow up. Learning responsibilities does not inhibit childhood. It enhances a child's experience with confidence and self worth. As well as work ethic and delayed reward. But you folks already know this stuff, and are providing a much needed refresher on parenting, as many family dynamics have lost their way, leaving many young adults without much parenting, or life skills in general. At 61 I'm most inspired seeing such wonderful family dynamics, in a loving and nurturing environment. Where can I sign up to be adopted?

I'm all about the trad wife, but not as the movement that is going on rn where everything is perfect and you look all put together and what not. I just want to make my husband and kids my main focus. I want to be with my kids and homeschool and feed my family good food and do what is pleasing to the Lord. Pretty basic and traditional. No one can have it all. We were definitely lied to about that.

Would you guys consider doing a video talking about the equipment you use to do what you do? Mics, cameras, headphones, lighting, why do you use headphones, how you get three separate shots with no camera operators in the little house but you have one audio track the whole time, what do you use inside vs outside?
If you think this would make a good video, great. Otherwise, forget I wrote this.

I truly appreciate this form of communicating.
Countries which are far more progressive and family friendly have parental leave far longer than the US. They also have more programs to help families than the US. Having the option of staying home is a gift. Having good childcare available that is subsidized and stable and regulated is also a gift. We need both options.
My last child was a precipitous delivery at home, there’s a huge difference. I didn’t have drugs with any of them. I loved her solitary birth, it was a great experience.
