Thanks for visiting our HQ! Unrelated, but one of our spectrum analyzers has been missing since your visit...
Thanks for having me there! Regarding any missing equipment from your shop, I wouldn't read into it. Probably not worth worrying about :)
Curious... Very curious. And y'all didn't think to keep a very close eye on Mr. Blizzington?!? Shameful. 😄
Joe: ***thank god that's all they noticed***
Thanks for giving joe more money to spend on Milk and Carbonators! Great Content!
Wow, thanks BPS for the detailed analysis of the scrap from my rocket nozzle build and at such a great price, others wanted more than I payed for the hole block of steel. Happy to fine it had that amount of nickle, so it was to the supplies specs after all. Ha ha.
No matter what I buy I always end up being the biggest tool in my garage
REAL
Came to comment about desk space being the most important thing in a shop. Read your comment and had to reevaluate my existence.
Talking about tools. Please don't become a government controlled whore like these Astranis or SpaceX companies. That's when you literally sell your integrity because of the budget. I see you drooling so I doubt you understand.
I feel called out, yet I feel seen
Hello, my name is John......I am a tool
This is the kind of sponsored content I can enjoy, on brand for everyone and a fun watch. Hopefully Astranis's next expenditure on BPS is as a payload customer to LEO.
Yeah now I want to buy a geostationary satelite
I had a new dentist identify right away that I used the gap between my front incisors for wire-stripping. Aparaently, a perfectly semi-cicular wear pattern isn't "normal".
Just buy better copper wire, much softer ;-)
I keep pulling out a filling because of childhood habits.
I manufacture off road parts in my apartment, been doing so for 4 years. Just signed my lease for a 1200 sq ft industrial space!
Always wild to see how many businesses started from home
What kind of off road parts? Subaru related?!
@@bradley3549 Yes sir! Subaru, Lexus, Toyota. Mostly designed and sell lighting brackets, switch systems, custom wiring and some knick knacks
Congratulations on making the move into more space. I'm hoping to do so in 2024.
Congratulations that's awesome 🎉
Epic bro! People like you who are achieving their goals and dreams are generally those who inspire me the most!
Well this is fun to see pop up on my feed! I just interviewed there yesterday and got the tour myself, super cool company!
Hey, did you get accepted? If yes, what type of bsckground is mostly sought after?
Awesome video!!!’ This is the stuff you rarely get too see, the backend of space work. Really enjoyed the equipment comparison!
I’m 1000% sure its not $1
Maybe $2 or $3 I think
@@BPSspace come on we know its at least 100k
@swapnilpatidar7522 he's got 50k+ in just manufacturing and measuring equipment id guess, but the actual cost of just parts for the rocket are probably around 1k
@@BPSspace don’t forget about tax 😉
@@BPSspace Hey can I buy you out for $3?
You have probably thought of this already but you can rough on the Tormac CNC and finish on the lathe. Saves hours of hogging out material.
I greatly appreciate the quality of this channel’s content. Solid work as always Joe
Just today I visited a cool satellite company here in Italy, Argotec those who built the coffee machine for the ISS. I think is in the middle between you and Astranis. It is cool to see how a type of company scale up.
You are doing great, one day you will run your own space company and someone is going to be sponsored by you. ❤
Wish this had been twice as long with more detailed comparisons between your machines and the Astranis ones. How much faster, how much more precise, how much bigger material handling, etc.
I love this video. There's so much emotion in it. Words can't express. Thank you for this wonderful comparison video.
Round two lets gooo
Wonderful video! Would love to see more of these!
I hate how I knew what video Joe was referencing when he said "Here in my garage, just bought-"
That just tells very well that you have bright future in Aerospace industry!
Thanks. It is fun to watch your videos.
Just recently tied off an internship at an aerospace (aero engine and aero structure) company and then this video releases. Was fun watching and recognizing cmm machines and the 5 axis cnn machine. Sad there wasn’t a section on special processes :(
I worked in a CNC shop for a couple summers during high school and those 5 axis machines are some of the coolest things. They can swap between like 60 different tools, make multiple parts at once, its really awesome stuff.
I like these types of videos, do more of this if you can!
Great video! I was drooling at your 4-channel oscilloscope, until I realized where you got it from ;-)
Excellent video, thanks for that both groups.
This is epic.
Peeking into aerospace grade production is really exciting.
Joey B. rocking that Kim Possible look
Very nice tour of Astranis! (your shop is nice too!)
Keep the awesome content coming dude! cheers
All those tools, man's living my dream
0:42 yeah, that format that I hope you would never do
I love how in every aerospace company tour I’ve seen, there are people wearing shirts from other companies
Nice video Joe!
Now this is different Joe, and you are DAMN SERIOUS ABOUT THIS CHANNEL!
Scott Manley and Tim Dodd level video easily.
Great video joe!
Really enjoyed this video :), thanks dude
Great video! With all the soldering you do, maybe you could find a way to vent all the fumes. A cheap way could be an old whole house vacuum cleaner with a wall mount by the station? it could double as a way to clean up the room. You would have to open up the walls though.
Great video, I love it when companies show what and how they are doing... I think we can thank SpaceX for it since they were the first big company that was like fuck it, let them see and nerds all around just went crazy. I hope this stays so when can see more companies opening their doors and showing us how it is made (and people who will explain it to dummies like me :) )
Nice job with a very professional video!
Nice video man ❤❤❤
Great video!
Nice video! I'm sure, the space has some huge opportunity for you too.
Dude, you are a one of a kind!
Cool Video! Your shop setup is pretty nice.
Thanks Joe, very interesting and cool
I had a similar import lathe for years and recently upgraded to a Precision Matthews lathe and my gawwwd does it feel nice using that baby. What lathes are you thinking on getting as an upgrade?
that helping hand setup is unreal copping it immediately
I feel like i have seen this somewhere before
Same
You didn't see anything... ;)
@@BPSspace what happened? I saw it to already.
Visited a woodworker friend once, he managed to produce furniture out of an apartment, in a 3’x5’ section of their living room, using nothing but hand tools. He says “it’s not ideal, but it’s all I have room for, so I make it work”. That’s the point in which that saying really kicked in, it’s in the craft-person, not the tool.
Thanks Joe
That scope obviously just fell in the void, no one… abducted it….
Kudos to Astranis and BPS!
Wow really cool. Thanks for sharing.
So exciting to see your work area compared to the big companies.
0:54 That is what came to my mind soon as you said "here in my garage" lmfao
This needs to be a longer video!
I like your home lab. You have some better gear than I do, but you quoted the Adam Savage philosophy perfectly, I'll upgrade once my current equipment breaks. If I ever decide to make a video of my own builds it would be cool to get your opinion on my progress. I love your video's and I hope you continue to succeed.
Great to see the Copenhagen Suborbitals poster at 6:23 🙂
1:40 Not to mention when you're shopping for a whatever new tool, you generally don't quite understand exactly what certain specs translate to in real life, or what features are important for your application. After learning on the cheapo kit, you know pretty darn well exactly what you're looking for in your next workhorse tool.
lol nice ive got that same soldering station. Things a beast.
Thanks for making my next satellite buying decision so much easier
You might want to consider an anti-esd mat for soldering since silicone can charge up and possibly fry your parts
I love the philosophy of buying cheapo tools to see how much you use/need it before getting something nicer later when it breraks. Sure, often you'll probably have to fight the short comings of the cheaper tools but you will identify what you really want feature wise for the more expensive tools when you get them
Pretty cool seeing the similarities, just much bigger and more expensive.
I've been a 3, 4, & 5 axis CNC machinist for a a year and a half programming and operating. I hope to work at Space X or Boeing in the future.
Love this!
Why is this video making me so excited 😳
Lovely story, thanks!
Love the SpaceX merch on Jeff
That rack full of power supplies is 😍
I like the Astranis machinist wearing a SpaceX T-shirt.
"Here in my garage" made my day!
Cool video, super interesting!! :D
Interesting tour and comparison to BPS Space. It does seem odd to see an aerospace company in urban San Francisco considering the high costs and declining livability.
the fact that an actual aerospace companny let him do a tour and sponsored him is the craziest thing ever.
Really looking forward to your upcoming cage match with Zuck. Remember, if all else fails, sweep the leg. ;) Oh, and as much as you're using that lathe, its ok to go ahead and splurge on a new, better, one. Waiting for that old one to fail, could have you waiting a long time.
Great video! What is the white film on the walls 7:29 and what is it for?
wow nice, i would love to work there looks like a fun place for people tinkering around. :)
Oh, can I watch it now????
Ok, I’m gonna need that soldering station you have set up. What’s it called? Got a link to it?
I am making a cansat and a rocket that releases it at a certain height, all thanks to your content :D
Why was the video reuploaded??
I was about half way in before it went private the first time. Super weird
Got a title wrong and we caught the error close enough to publishing that it was worth re-doing
We used a router mounted on a table to create our ribs for our rockets. A pin in the table, hole in the alpolic. Rotate the alpolic cuts a perfect ring. Easy peasy.
I hope someday you get to do a SpaceX video too!
This is epic.Peeking into aerospace grade production is really exciting.. I’m 1000% sure its not $1.
Joe make more videos like this one
Nice vid
When it says that Jeff Tiedeken is team lead for DevOps... Is that DevOps in the IT sense, or is it a term used in manufacturing too?
Oh, it seems like astranis has also a lathe... But I like the ebay lathe.. And xylas vertical/horizontal bandsaw is also very nice.. 😅
If you're looking for a much better manual lathe with a similar footprint (rather than getting a large, free standing machine), I cannot over-recommend getting an old South Bend Model A, B, or C. They can be found for only a bit more than a new chinesium eBay lathe, and they're about the same size (9in), but the quality is *massively* better.
Unlike any current-production lathe in that size range, South Bend lathes were designed to be used in professional tool rooms, highschool shop classes, or in production making small parts. They're industrial-grade machine tools which happen to be quite small, rather than low cost tools made for hobbyists.
There are a ton of parts still available for them as well, and a number of upgrades you can make to bring them up to modern standards. I have a Model C which was made in 1936, and I updated it with a serpentine belt, a quick change tool post, modern carbide tooling, and a DRO.
Seriously, don't be put off by the fact that a good chunk of them were made before WWII. They absolutely slap, and they'll machine circles around any 9in lathe made today.
One thing that strikes me about Astranis is how much is done in non-clean room environments. When I worked in the satellite manufacturing industry, everything that was launched was assembled in class 1000, and better, clean rooms.
Going from crazed banana bread Joe to sane (sort of) rocket Joe is quite jarring
I am creating (3 levels of) makerspace checklist, and for that I need a lot of samples of different folks' setups... your personal shop itself would've been more than enough (rockets are made here, it's not as trivial as you make it sound like... you know), but add a industrial scale shop (glimpse of floor layout to workbench setups) and it's another level of awesome, because it's so hard to see any of those unless being invited to in-person & generally without camera. So, thanks a lot!
P.S: giff Simplex ep 7 pliz
@BPspace Super video 👍, @astranisspace ty for the visit
Hats 🎩 off to you… Amazing
3:26 Team Lead, machining and... DevOps? That's a lot! :D
6:28 those "bendy arms" -- where did you get them?
The oerfect video i was looking for, just commented on Xyla's channel i need some of those to Africa 😂
Do your best without going in debt! ➖💯 So many of those 'cool' companies have huge loans to meet every month, hence they are pressured to follow the banks goals, not yours. Love ya what you're doing BPS! 🚀‼
“ HyperLoop” 🤣😂🤣😂😅🤣😂😅good one! 👍✌️
Tormach makes great machines with great support but at a price. Taig makes great little CNC mills with almost as much capability at a fraction the price.
I just watched a 10 minute ad and found it entertaining.
