PLEASE KEEP IN MIND when you are watching my videos: I am showing you the least expensive, quickest "backyard" methods for repairing or servicing your lawnmower or equipment. Replacing all components such as gaskets and fuel lines is always recommended when rebuilding or repairing equipment. With these videos I hope you are able to fix and repair your lawnmower yourself with minimal parts, knowledge and tools. Thank you for watching!
Those opposed twins were some of the best engines Briggs ever made. I fixed up one like yours in my shop and gave it to my daughter years ago and still runs great. Thanks for that video, well done.
Right on I like these engines too
John salkis give me to the blood pressure cause :-)
Thanks for the videos Jeff it helps me a lot sense i had my hart attack I turned to working on small engines.Your experience and knowledge gets me through the hard times, keep up the good work.love what you are doing.
Thanks friend, comments like this really do inspire me to make more vids
I'm so glad you left all those leaves. They really help deaden the noise. Don't want to lose that. Throws it in the leaves 🤣
Man you got lucky with that carb - love when they start right up
very lucky indeed. I am glad it was stored indoors
That steering gear unit was a lot easier project than what I thought. Good video and thank you!
thanks for watching!
Thanks so much everyone for commenting and watching my videos. I am glad that you guys can relate to what I am doing. It inspires me to keep making videos and sharing any knowledge I have about wrenching on small engines! ~ thanks friends!
you do great work thx for the content
Love the green coleman canoe anchoring the property down. Always good to keep flood equipment on hand.
Another one fixed Jeff brilliant work friend
Thanks friend!
Man a project holly crap , great job Jeff !
Thanks Bill!
Best steering linkage change I have seen in a while. Lucky job on the carb I think. But you got it up and running. Waiting to see it get ready for sale. Thanks for the vido.
Cool! Thanks friend
I was thinking that looks like a tire slime bottle pump then you said it. Lol. Great idea ! Gonna do that when my slime runs out. Tx for a great video Jeff
Yep! I have had some good sucess with SLIME over the years! Good stuff!
Very good video! The engine ran so smoothly it could have been new!
Thanks friend! Luckily it was stored indoors most of its life in a covered barn. So it made the job easier than if it had sat outside for a long time
Great video Jeff. The teeth in my steering gear weren't stripped, but the steering was very sloppy. I just replaced the T shaped plastic part, as well as the drag link. Replacing the entire unit costs more, but the steering will be more responsive.
nice! good work
Thats what i did to mine just the T
Jeff, you did it again, good job and i likw to watch your videos, you explain everything good and don't skip any section so we get to see everything.Thamkd Jeff and may God bless.
Thank you for the nice comment
Always make sure no mouse nest under the blower cover.
Use razor knife to carefully slice the hose parallel along the carburetor nipple.
Always put bolts back in place so you don't lose them.
There’s lots of used parts on eBay for theses old mowers 😊
Some salted are a lot better and cheaper than others 😊
Great video i learned a few things thank you👍
Glad it was helpful thanks for watching
That’s right , make it work . No such thing as I can’t
Good job Jeff. Looks like the oil needs changed and the first press of the starter stalling the starter means the valves need set. Other than that someone else will get a good mower if the spindle bearings are good and the belt is changed.
The bolts holding the steering gear to the deck look exactly like old gmc pickup tailgate bolts which reattached just fine.
Ebay has little $15 to $20 12 volt fuel pumps that you can install a rubber fuel hose to each end and a 12 volt battery and pump the fuel out of the tanks of those lawn tractors so you dont have to pull everything apart to get the fuel out.
That sounds like a cool tool for sure!
Jeff, didn't you hear me talking to you when you hooked up he steering wheel and I was telling you that the linkages should have been hooked up first? Smiles, I knew you would be taking the wheel off again. Nice job as usual.
Thanks for the tip Ron! please yell at the screen louder next time, I could use the help! lol!
Gotta love the opposed twins! One thing though, the steering gears on my mowers are bolted from the top, into the frame.
If this engine was a water cooled Kawasaki I would want the engine for my sawmill.
I just cut fuel hoses on all old mowers to get gas out while setting
I've been there did that nwhem I rerouted the fuel line and most definitely replaced it nthe fun part was removing the seat fender see you later young man
Great vid brother Merry Christmas
Thanks friend. Merry Christmas
Blue Lock-tight that bolt at the steering wheel, or the steering wheel will get loose with use and you'll keep tightening it over and over.

It's mini junk Craftsman's as you got in the yard yet you didn't have one of those already that was good I find that hard to believe
Can you show us how to adjust the governor and the idle screw? I have a 3 screw carb.
Need to run my battery cables to under the seat cause i made mines gas tank gravity fed
neighbhor mowed an acre with one of these for a long while probably still is
having trouble?just call the 1-800 number and ask that nice woman how to remove the steering column.im sure she can hook you right up.lmao
Thank you for sharing. You know where can I get an air filter for a 18.5 OHV Intek Brigg & Stratton Craftman 42 " , LT1000, ride mower ? I really appreciate your help. Sears now closed so I can not get hlp from Sears. Again , thank you.
Hi Minh! Most Briggs parts are available at your local lawnmower repair shop, hardware store or online at Amazon and Ebay
If you want a more permanent get cheaper solution to replacing that steering arm you can use a hind joint and weld it in place of that rubberized joint there with the bolt in it you run a bolt through the hind joint washer and a nut and it will stay there it will never wear out
Hello, my name jeff also. I have this exact machine and I'm hoping you might shed some light on something for me. I can get mine started but it smokes really bad and then just dies... what should I change first?
gasoline may have entered the oil compartment due to a flooding carburetor. now the fluid level in the engine is too high causing this smoking issue. You can smell/see the gas in the oil if you check. Change the oil and service the carburetor if this happened.
My green craftsmen seats are softer than the newer grey craftsmen seats so I use my grey one for now I'm gonna swap seats put the green craftsmen seat on the grey craftsmen that grey craftsmen seat kinda hurts my ass bone after a hour and a half of mowing the green mowers are my backups
And mines engine just like that one needs another head gasket the one on it looks new but I'll bet you whoever put it on ripped it or didn't get it on right so it does leak a little bit of oil not bad but enough I'll fix it if it gets worse
It doesn’t take long to have a ton of junk mowers around the house
what year did these paticular mowers come out i have 2 of them, one with a 19.5 hp I/C engine and the other did have a 17 hp engine but had to replace my aunt blew the engine replaced it with a kohler SV-610 i got from my buddy
1990's I think
I have a rider identical to this one. Where is the fuel pump for this rider?
The fuel pump on this engine is part of the carburetor. (on the front of carb)
But I'm serious about welding I'm joint on the end of the steering rod I got that one from Terrell fixes all he does that all the time because he can't he has a regular joint that you can replace it with but he said the heim joint is much stronger and will last
I took my air filter out and when I was putting the assembly back there was a round 1/4” thick plastic/rubber washer with metal on the inside, that was just sitting there and I can’t figure out where it goes.. do you know what I’m talking about?
How much would that shaft and gear asy go for at list price?
The steering shaft assembly was about $70.00 at the time this video was made
U can u just the slop out of the geers
😊👍
You only have rusted out decks and frames when you leave outside in the Weather for years I still don't understand why some do that these Machines belong in a garage or shed not outside and if you don't have the room to store inside dont buy it
Hi Jeff, do you know what year/model this mower is?
Is the gear mesh adjustable?
no
Great video! What year was the mower made?
Not sure
Late 90' s early 2000's
Tire Simon and fix a flat are two totally different things not to be confused with the other because you can clean and fix a flat out of the tires last line if you ever get a leak in it you have to cut it off in a few buy those tire tubes with the slime in it you might as well throw away the tire The rim the whole freaking deal cuz it all together get a hold of two seen it done been there
Just wondering. Do you need to grease the gears or would that just attract dirt and be a bad idea?
good question! I am not actually sure whats recommended. I sometimes use grease but I don't think it is needed on this one
i have an exact replica of this.. i turned it into a drifting/redneck racing machine
NICE!
Hi Guys. Would anyone have a model number for this mower? I am looking at the same one and would like to be able to look up a manual for it. Thanks in advance.
Ah, yes. Steering gears. Nobody EVER seems to lube those. Steering gets tight & they just keep yankin' away. SMH...
I have replaced a few
I want remove the start is not good, how remove ?
easy to remove the starter
sector gear
How about the carb need help please
Jeff has a video on that carb.
What should the rpm be for that engine?
good question, an internet search could tell us
@@JeffsLittleEngineService I get conflicting info. Sorry.
