Thanks for showing us your man cave Dom.😎 Great studio. Must be really inspiring working in studio like this with so much awesome gear. You are very lucky. I wish you lots of great productions. Greetings from Slovenia. 🎶🥂
You’re a legend! So enthusiastic about what you do. Your positive vibe can get any music nerd excited. You never say anything bad about any stuff though. Surely some things p*ss you off!? All of us get annoyed by some things. You mentioned OCD a few times so you definitely get annoyed sometimes LOL! Do tell! Maybe make a video about annoying things and how you fixed them to help us novices avoid at least some of them. Thanks for your amazing contribution to music 🙏.
I just saw your 8 things that Windows needs to improve for Music Producers video. I therefore see you have lots of experience of being annoyed but you communicate it so eloquently. Chasing IT issues is why I stayed away from DAW for so long, after trying back in early 2000’s and losing the creative moments so often, I gave up messing with DAW for close to 15 years. I did most stuff on synth workstations because they are made for one thing only - making music. But modern production requires a strong DAW and the work flow is not possible on a hardware synth workstation. Being an IT tech and trouble shooting is all part of making music these days, unfortunately. Headaches unavoidable. Just look after your hair and don’t pull it out!
I love your videos, you have inspired so many people to get stuck in with their mixes. But I also feel that quite a lot of people feel that professional quality mixes aren't possible without expensive outboard gear and plugins. That said, I have a challenge for you: do two mixes of the same song. One using any equipment you like and another using only the stock cubase plugins. I would love to hear the difference between the two and see which plugins and hardware you miss the most when constrained to the stock ones only.
Hey Kenny! I want to stress the fact that you don't need any of the anlogue gear to produce great music. I started out with a humble Soundblaster 128 PCI soundcard! The most important thing is to work on your skills! I actually had an artist that asked me to use just Cubase stock plugins for a mix so that they could open the mix on their systen. You can create amazing mixes even with stock plugins. The analogue stuff, just make the process a bit easier- they are specialized tools for the job. It's like using a normal screwdriver vs an electric one ;)
Hi Dom, thanks for sharing, studio looks great! Will be nice to see an EQ review of the Zahl, and Bettermaker to see how they compare and complement each other during mixing and mastering.
Awesome video, thanks! Would be really interested in learning more on how to best connect things - routing etc. while staying ergonomical. Maybe you've already done a video about that, but it would be really helpful to get some tips to take away to improve setting up things also when in a home studio etc. Like how to make most of the inputs you have to get all the various gear - synths/effects connected in the most ergonomical way?! Thanks!
I am more than grateful that I am able to work in the music industry full time- it wasn't easy but totally worth it. Sometimes you don't need millions of views to be sucessful and happy with what you're doing- remember, there are massive composers out there (see film composers)- they don't have millions of views and they are in the "background" but they are the biggest of all ;)
Hi Dom! Don;t get me wrong! i so much appreciate your talent and music skills! I watch your all videos and i know how hard is to becom a hi level musician like you did! (Sorry for English)
Dom thanks for the heads up on the wireless remote control for power sockets, 1000 times better than putting the plugged power cable into the units, it’s a brilliant solution to the fact of no on/off power switches on the UF8 & UC1
Your studio and your stuffs are amazing. To tell the truth the light help a lot to make it look great. The disposition and the quality of furnitures contribute to make it very pleasant. You must feel calm and focus in room of that sort. I project to add some light to my humble home studio because it's make room beautiful and pleasant for working.
Another great video Dom. Glad to see you've created a production environment that embodies your character and philosophy. I think it's important that a production studio reflects the owner and isn't just a collection of gear just for the sake of it. Also, I've never heard of the Echo Fix before. I'm interested in it. Consider making a video on it.
Hey Chris, thank you so much! I am also of the philosophy that I get only things that make a difference and that I actually need. If I don't use a piece of gear for over a month, it gets sold :) Echo Fix is AMAZING. I am going to make a video for it for sure!
If I had the space I'd replicate your entire studio, but in the real world I have to make do with software in my 5' square space. Brilliant video Dom, you deserve every success in life. By the way, your background music in this video is awesome!
Awesome! Do you have a stereo bus with always on specific analogue modules? Does your stereo bus change or is it an always on permanent chain? It would be cool to see where and in what order you have the HG2 in your mix bus chain, before or after compression or EQ.
Yeah, I'd like to know more about this and whether you have the stereo bus modules chained, in what order or do you have the modules on their own input/ output on your interface and how you'd do that deal with signal delay compensation if you were doing it that way?
Dom great set up! Will be good to see how to connect all, etc etc. Basic hardware chain for little home studio....kind of must have...and of course about led lights hahaha 😆 all the best from Bournemouth!
I would love to hear your thoughts/comparisons of the stream deck XL and Loupedeck CT, how you have used them both, pros and cons - thank you for sharing, this video is awesome!
I love them both but for different things. The Loupedeck I found more usefull for photo/video editing- in the end, the Monogram felt better for controlling Cubase.
Great run-through Dom….. you have put together a really impressive setup….. very cool….. but undoubtedly matched by the professional quality of what you produce, both musically and in terms of video content. Keep at it dude….. we all love what you do :-)
Awesome Studio set up Dom, i really like the lighting, it's so Synthwavy😁 That brings me to my question, since i really enjoyed your Synthwave producing video with Delido as singer, is it possible to make some more Synthwave making videos in the future? i would appreciate it very much. Thank you for all the knowledge you give us for free and for the inspiration.
Enjoy it! Access Analog just got the CL1B and more. They also use Lynx converters. Amazing I have access to that equipment now!! But I might want to get me my own RND Portico Masterbuss as a backup because that is the one for me!
Very nice hardware inside your studio! I recently bought cubase 12 , had use it when they called it sx3 and artic as I remember, actually more finesse in the layout of cubase let’s see if can learn some tips specially for fast navigation with shortcuts etc.. btw it’s a mess to do it but if you can explain more about wires from computer to hardware front on desktop (will check again when you talk about AD/DA)
This is an awesome tour and the studio just to dream of. Thanks so much for mentioning my recommendation. It's always such a pleasure to share ideas back and forth with you! Really looking forward to our next event in Berlin. 😎
Exactly the opposite of my studio…and by that I mean, actually clean 😋 I’m using Antelope for my interface, but I’m interested how you use the Lynx. I’m not that advanced in my audio setup…maybe a video 😇
Hey my man! The Hilo I use 100% standalone as a converter. This is where my analogue mastering chain is hooked up. it also does my DA conversion- so it goes: ADAT OUT from my audio interface> ADAT IN of Hilo> Monitor out of Hilo>Speakers. This way the most critical parts (the monitoring and analogue AD/DA conversion) happens 100% in the Hilo while getting the solid driver performance from my proper audio interface. For some reason, good converters are synonymous with mediocre driver performance at the moment. Hope this changes in the future!
I was waiting impatiently for the part about the analogue effects and you knew everyone was!!! By the way i have a lynx hilo and now im eager to see how it sounds like if you clip it!
Dom I have seen new monitors on your studio, it might be time for a MEGA Studio tour 3.0!. What happened to the Hilo ? , can you make a video about it?
Great video and great deck! Please make a video of Strem deck by Elgato. Does it work well with the new midi remote system of Cubase? Or it works by the old generic remote? Think to by Elgato but don't know. Hope for your answer! Thanks 🙏
Thank you very much for the tour. it's a great studio and I see the fun, producing music in this atmosphere. Regarding to acoustic treatment: it seems to be a rather small room, are the bass traps really sufficient to get a linear sound? what did you do on the ceiling?
Hey Dom, as always loving your enthusiasm, great presentation and tips and tricks. I noticed you no longer have the Softube console fader 1 in your studio, is the SSL UF-8 replacing this? I know you mentioned you're just testing this. And yes would love to see a review, full Dom style ,on this piece of kit!

hey Dom, you still have and use that Stream Deck XL? you see the new Stream Deck + with the rotary knobs? Your opinion? they both $199, Maybe a video dedicated to Stream Deck?
Well that was fun!!! Thanks so much for the tour, Dom. I love that we don't just get an insight into what you have but there are always tidbits about why you have something and how you use it! 😊 I am curious about something you didn't talk about...the monitor arm for your BenQ monitor! Not very sexy but looking for something with the range of motion yours has and works with a monitor bridge. Something else that caught my ears...acoustic curtains. WTF?! That's something I'll need to check out as I have one wall with windows in my studio and I've always wonder how to handle them acoustically. Thanks again, mate!
