  • In this video, renowned Oregon mycologist Sidnee Obersingleton takes us on a journey into the PNW forest at night with black lights to look at some of the amazing fungi and other things that glow under UV light at night, and spookiness ensues! We get visited and hurt by some unexpected visitors and we get followed by a creature in the treetops making the spookiest of sounds. Then we talk all about mushrooms, mycology in general, and look at the actual mycorrhizae on a tree root in the forest at midnight!! It was wild and also educational. A must see tribute to the spookiest day of the year! Thanks for watching and Mush-Love!

Psilocybin containing mushroom saved my life. The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit. it has also helped me to survive depression

Psychedelic’s definitely have potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again again but it’s just so hard to source out of there.

A damp clay applied to the sting works well to draw out the venom as the clay dries. If done quickly it works really well

Oh so fun! I am in Sweden UV hunting for lichen and fungi in the woods. Got yellow, red and orange lichens so far. Xanthoria ssp. lichen with 365UV reflects superbright orange, check it out if you got the chance. Spaerophorus fragilis glows extremely blue. I hope to find Armillaria ssp fungi green bioluminescent and when the snow is gone some Cladonia ssp are supposed to reflect blue. I go UV hunting with groups, it's always fun

This is real cool stuff! I like nocturnal mushroom hunting... this would be a definite level up to bring along. I do want to ask this though: Did you two decide not to go too deep into woods because you guy(s) scared of bigger beasts like bears or wolves or cougars? In this video footage with sound the sounds of highway traffic is near by.

I could hear the wasps in the audio. Unlike honeybees, yellow jackets and other wasps can sting repeatedly and they don't lose their stinger or venom sac when they zap you.

I love nerding out to this channel. Question: Have either of you ever heard of someone who regularly disposes of mushroom "stumps" or leftover pieces on their property being able to eventually see those particular mushrooms fruit? Every time I forage, I throw any little pieces I don't cook all over the woods on my land. This is my first year on the property, so I don't expect to see anything any time soon. But I was hoping maybe I'd have a chance of someday seeing mushrooms pop! It sounds like the spores have quite a bit of competition, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed!

I think it's going to be a lot more difficult with certain species but with something like an oyster mushroom I definitely think it's pretty easy to happen.
Some people think that making a slurry out of the mushroom is the best way.
Drizzle it on a dying tree or some wood chips.

Anything is possible, but SO many factors all have to line up, especially with mycorrhizal species, that chances are slim. I think thats part of the reason I love mushrooms so much. Its the mystery. They do what they want and wont easily be told what to do!

Hey Aaron, I have been binging your videos for a couple months now and I have to let you know they are my absolute favorite mushroom videos. Fantastic work!
I do have both a question and a request. Sidnee mentioned a website that is/has a database of root tip morphology and he said he could get you a link. Did he ever provide you with that link and could you pass it along? It is most certainly well beyond my current knowledge and likely not useful to be currently, but mycology has consumed me in a way that nothing else ever has. I would greatly appreciate that link if you have it. I may also find an email and reach out that way.

I was on the Olympic Peninsula picking brush when I sat down for a smoke break and noticed that there was a lot of wasps in the area. So I decided to move. That's when I noticed there was a golf ball hole in the ground that I just happened to be sitting on. I didn't get stung thank God I had Haley Hansen rubber-coated canvas reindeer on. Scary moments!

    Wait wait, what?
So my belief that chanterelles are strongly associated with Oregon grape is a myth? Really? I mean whenever I'm looking for new chanterelle hunting grounds, I'm looking for Oregon grape, and this seems to be pretty reliable. So this has all been coincidence all this time?

    • @ASMRGRATITUDE
