Something I didn’t see anyone talking about even back when 3d all stars came out. The Wii virtual console version of Mario 64 was widescreen and they reverted it back.

I recently discovered Super Mario Flashback, and I absolutely adore it. It plays well, looks gorgeous, has a brilliant soundtrack, and just has a lot more charm than any of the New Super Mario Bros. games. If Nintendo had any sense, they would hire the Flashback team and officially release it on the Switch. Also, as a British person, I always appreciate it whenever I hear someone pronounce "Mario" the way we pronounce it. Don't ever apologise for doing so :D
While I can't bring myself to try out fan games and rom hacks in general, I would love to see Nintendo pull a Sonic Mania with Mario and reach out to the fans making good games to put a Mario game together. But that will NEVER happen ..

There's one thing to note about super mario widescreen. Although autoscrolling sections are easier, anything with bullets are much harder. Since before they wouldn't shoot in a 4:3 ratio. But now more projectile shooters are seen because of the 16:9 ratio. So what was once somewhat challenging but easy to dodge areas where bullets are shot now becomes basically bullet hell sections
Andrew Spinks was the one who created Super Mario X, he shifted focus after having to stop work on the fan made mod by Nintendo themselves. He went on to form the company Re-Logic and created the game Terraria.
I think the pits on the sides of the widescreen SMW hack bowser fight are really cool and fitting for a boss fight. A higher level of difficulty for a boss fight you've played 20 times before. It's a neat design decision on the hacker's part.
Yea, I think you can die from falling in either side of the castle roof in original game. Modded did a great job lefting the platform untouch to keep the original gameplay.
Sad ya didn't mention newer super Mario bros ds and wii. They add so much content to the new super Mario bros games, they're basically new games and they are truly mindblowing...
I would've taken the DS Mario 64 port on the switch too, Like that game upscaled would've been nice, and split screen multiplayer would've been awesome on it
The biggest issue Wulff is look at the remaster of crash bandicoot and Spyro games and compare that to the silly job made in the anniversary of mario and their remaster of it's games.... Such a lousy lazy job and Mario deserves to be remake with newer graphics.
7:37 If you use GlideN64 in Project64, you can play Super Mario 64 in widescreen with added HD textures. If an emulator plugin can do widescreen for all N64 games, I don't see why Nintendo couldn't do it for 3D All Stars.
oh, finally a mario 64 perfect pc port. i tried with my rom (i've mario 64 on nearly every console, 64 cartrige too) the best mod i used you couldn't exit the level after the star, i'll definitely try this plus one
It is possible to play these games on a Hacked Nintendo Switch using game streaming applications (SkyNX,Moonlight,In Home Switching) and Probably even without streaming using Ubuntu with Box 86 and Wine Note: Super Mario World Widescreen is already playable on Hacked Nintendo Switch using the BSNES HD core in Retroarch And the Super Mario 64 ports could be ported to switch in fact there already is a super Mario 64 port similar to super mario 64 plus playable on hacked nintendo switches
Im glad that they port games without touching them because i have not had the chance to play them until recent years. My parents could not afford it so i spent my childhood seeing these games being released and only got to fantasize about playing them.
Being able to play Mario 64 with full camera control is all I wanted and Nintendo couldn't even do that. I quit playing the collection because I couldn't stand it anymore. It's a classic game, but that janky camera was super annoying.
